Yesss, the longer the episode the better. Becoming part of my evening routine sitting down and chilling out with a cup of chamomile tea and watching these 1hr+ episodes. 😌
On today’s episode: James spends the first 20 minutes on like 4 intersections and adds in exactly 1 road while destroying the homes of an entire city block. Join us next time where he will add in more roads and forget to zone them while making you pay $10 for a city Park with 2 paths
I think it’d be great to have the university campus kind of spread out around the Hawthorne area. A lot of city schools basically make themselves part of the city and don’t have a traditional campus and it could look really good, kind of like NYU but with more of a central campus in the cleared area for inspiration.
the thing I like the most about this series is that this map you're using is my actual hometown. and the fact that even though you're not basing this on anything other than your imagination yet you built that over-water bridge in the EXACT same spot as it is in real life is... kind of amazing. the industrial district is pretty much spot on, too.
Like other people have said, I think the little island in-between bedford + hawthorne should be a national park, with a ferry stop to connect. It could be fun to name it aluna isle/island for a throwback :) love the series and longer episodes
In my very small home town we have a lot of dirt roads running through it. They are basically desire paths, but for cars. The people that use them and have tractors maintain them, not the city workers. So I think it’s cool that your leaving the dirt roads.
Since there have spawned so many winestores, how about Chardonnay Bay for a name instead of Bedford? :) & You mentioned you wanted this to be a leasure-like area. When you make it a district, you can assign leasure to it if you want. I love how the city is evolving and the new ferry line is the cherry on top!
14:40 “there’s a tree in the middle of the pathway.” *removes said tree, fails to notice the tree on the middle of the traintracks* Can’t say I didn’t laugh.
Oh am loving this series! But a thing that I miss from other series are the timelapses at the beginning of the episode. For example you doing the road line marking will probably look really good during a timelapse.
The island in the between Bedford and the more developed city would be so cool for a power/water plant!! It’s out of the way but still close for both parts of the map!
I really like the idea of this map being chalk full of very spread out small towns but I would like to see an urban center kind of place that is a bit distanced from the rural areas? I’m absolutely loving these videos btw,, I think I’m growing addicted but the stress relief they bring me is unimaginable!!
I love the length of these videos! I can put them on while I work and just relax and watch Bowser Bay transform so much! I think if they were short videos you wouldn’t get much done since it takes so long to do anything in cities skylines. You’re planning this city so well, James. Keep up the awesome work!
Just found another reason not to go to sleep for work yet 😂 these videos actually relax me and I end up getting sleepy and going to sleep then come back to them when I wake up haha
“Bedford Meadows” would be a lovely small town name. And as it builds up (if you decide to) then the name will harken back to it’s time as a small town. Some fun town lore.
Hey, If you get bored of the game again - There's still a lot of fun to be had once you take it to the next level: I hadn't played for over a year and got back to it quite recently - when you start implementing strict road hierarchy rules (arterial -> collector -> local roads) in combination with exact zoning policies (only three by fours here, four by fours there, planned transitions between certain types, etc.) everything suddenly gets a lot more challenging, exciting (and in the end rewarding). I also find it quite satisfying to come up with a rough idea about the history of and general direction you wanna be going with an area before starting to build. The end result (in my case) seems to be a much more beautiful and interesting city. That strategy certainly takes away the dull and repetitive feeling of "roads, zoning, services, rinse and repeat"
I think what would be cool is if you had a suburban neighborhood pop up on the opposite side of the small town once the city encroaches on the town to represent builders coming and buying up land. And it’s a suburb with the houses real close together like it’s one development!! Loving the series!!
In tree anarchy settings you can change what happens when a road or path hits it so instead of hiding the tree it will completely remove the tree meaning there shouldn't be collision issues and there will be less lag.
Honestly, the best thing to fix the traffic on the big main road would be to add a tram line down it that connects with loads of busses that go out into the suburbs. Also adding stations to the industrial areas will help
These videos are my favourite thing to watch at the moment. I love Cities:Skylines but I don't have time to play right now. These videos let me experience it while doing other stuff. Plus I'm picking up a few tips along the way!
Personally I LOVE when there's a bunch of trees and bushes instead of blank areas of the city, makes it look how I wish my city looked :') so I formally request you keep adding too much bushes all over, please.
I just caught up last night and was hoping a new one would be ready for me today 😍 I’ve been watching you silently for years, so so happy you’re back doing this!
Everything is coming along nicely! Bedford is a nice little town. I still think you could add a toll booth to bring in some money, and perhaps even an airport down the road! Keep it up.
To avoid all industry traffic going through the highway roundabout, you might consider a second higway crossing. Maybe from the roundabout at the edge of the city to the main road of the farming industry. Just a suggestion.
I wonder if you could add forestry to some of the islands or turn the little triangle island into a wind farm. Loving the little seaside town though. Apollo bay?
I loove watching you play Cities:Skylines, after the whole day of work the episodes are so relaxing for me :) I have the game, but playing on my own annoys me, cuz I don't know what to do :D
There is a mod i can't remember right now how it's officially called, but you can with this mod , per building select the number of households you have in a big tower (or any residential house) 200 for ex instead of 50 or so. Way more realistic and you don't have to build that much. But it come with a price, way more traffic , and parking spaces ( i have realistic parking enabled in the TM mod) Works for C and O too.
You don’t understand just HOW confused I was at your traffic… and then I noticed it was ‘drive on the left’… I mean, I should’ve known but I just… didn’t think about it haha
I so enjoy watching this series while I'm working from home :) Could you imagine ever going back to Planet Zoo? I loved watching you play that as well!!
Where I'm from there's not much to do, so in the small towns a lot of people drink and party with each other. Made me laugh seeing 5 liquor stores in Bedford.
Just wanted to say yet again how much I'm enjoying you playing this game again! Also, I hope you continue to put out hour or longer episodes! I love how long they are!!
It would be great if the train line was elevated through the neighborhood. Kind of like the L in Chicago. Then you can have paths or roads or a park underneath the tracks.
If you want your houses set back from the road you can use large roads to zone on then after they build up downgrade to a thinner road... I know it works for buildings you place and they stay connected
Hope you'll download some other custom ferries that look more like vapparettos in Venice or Elbe river ferries, always think the native ferries look so dumb because they are designed like cruise ships so don't make sense for short trips, and then they are so small so look so stupid on the waves.
I know you've said that you can't do long episodes all the time but James with all love to you this 60-90 minutes it's just perfect for those series also I'm saying this stricte because of selfish reasons. 😅 I have trouble with sleep, already tried many things from night routine, tea, book to pills - nothing gives me feeling of easy falling asleep, good and quality sleep and nice, smooth waking up. Also now I have thousands of problems on top of that and man I don't know what is with this series but its really calm me down. I've never believed people saying that some of video can be calming so... yeah, please don't make videos under 60 minutes ❤🔥 please 🙏
I love your videos btw! Very inspiring to see someone who finally struggles to find the perfect bushes as well😂 But bro. How is no one complaining about electricity. Whenever I build a city I need like 100000s of power lines to make everyone happy and on the end my city just looks awful with all these power lines everywhere... Also emergency services.. I need to place 50 police stations in a 3 tile city because one police station is covering 3 streets..?? I have never seen a police station which covers just 3 streets in real life. I hope paradox will change this once. Also .. everyone is apparently unemployed in my city. 95% percent of my city is residential but these 10 stores a still struggling to find workers..
since you like to build bridges over roads, get the "automatic pedestrian bridge" MOD. It auto builds pedestrian bridges or tunnels and is super easy to use
Imagine moving to a new city with the knowledge that your new place is a brand-new development in a hot part of town only to have that exact place demolished in less than a month.
The city is evolving!!! Also, while you will probably do this between episodes anyways (or later in the episode and I'm not there yet), please fix some of lovely details like fencing that got messed up in the road upgrades I do love the concept of an amusement park along the water, even if it doesn't occur right there
Hey James, could you get the ambient sounds mod to remove that annoying beeping when you zoom in closer while you build. I think it's meant to be a scanner or pedestrian crossing beep but it drives me fricking nuts 🙈🙉 Thanks for coming back to cities. It's so relaxing to watch 💜
I love how he starts the video saying that he destroyed livelihoods by demolishing buildings in the last video and that the audience was hurt by it... and then goes on to say basically "so i thought we would start by demolishing all these houses here"
