So glad this series is back. Originally I used to watch them when I was at uni, I'd fall asleep to them. Then I got engaged when one of them was playing in the background. Now I'm married with 2 cats and a mortgage and I'm watching them whilst doing work 🥲
You should make it so they have to go very slow in front of the elementary school, that’s how it is in my town, and it’d make that route worse for the trucks
In the US we typically have flashing lights that indicate certain times to go slower, corresponding to the schools usual start and end times... So it's not an inconvenience until it needs to be
VERY IMPORTANT< IF JUNCTION IS TOO BIG GAME WILL BUG people cant cross, so the sims get stuck near the crossing, and accumulate. i lost 2 saves like that because after some time theres so many people there that deleting the node with everyone there crashes the game
@@GODOFHELLFIRE3 I would defnetly recomend the mod, a few carefull steps can prevent this, disallowing crossing and providing pathways where the crossing was is a great way to deal. Also, make sure that when editing the nodes you leave the segment corners near each other.
Some time stamps if you want to skip lane management, node experimentation and lane markings! I personally like to watch them for improving my own gameplay, but since we're learning together it can be a bit slow. 14:00 - 24:00 Lane marking, lane management, custom line making 26:00 - 32:00 Lane marking, lane management and experimenting with new intersection mod 35:00 Back to city planning and city expansion 37:15 - 38:30 More custom intersection experimenting and management 1:00:30 Existential crisis 1:02:30 - 1:03:40 Lane magament, AI management
I'm not a fan of the road lines parts (I do like the results though) but if it's short just like in this video then I can forward it and everyone who do enjoy it can still watch it
Doing intersections and Line markings are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE in modded cities! I know not everyone likes it so I wouldn't mind if it was cut out, but at least show us the final results. TY for your work ❤️💯
I haven't played Cities Skyline in a year but because of James, I stayed up till 3am just to restart and build a new city from scratch because I was so inspired. I wish my city was as well-thought out as yours. You have so much patience!
A bit of line painting is fun, but more than one junction in a row is too much for me! Otherwise, loving this series, the chill pace is just what I needed. I'm so glad you're feeling the Cities mojo again.
I like watching you draw lines on the roads lol. It is pretty chill even when you accidentally destroy your entire work with tree roads 😂 I had a good laugh at that. I’ve been binging this series today. It’s been cool
Parker Street turning onto Peters Street, into the new commercial (housing) district, could have an underpass below Edwards Highway to avoid the new traffic lights.
In the node controller you have an option "remove markings" it doesn't disable the crossings but just hides the default game ones. This way you can make much more beautiful crossings with the line marking tool. These aren't so janky and crooked as the default game ones
I enjoy watching the lane markings being done! When I do my own saves, it's handy to see someone else do them in action first, and if i want to replicate something, follow along!
James, I love the micromanagement of the road lines. I'd love to see more! It's something I wish I had the patience to do 😂 it's very satisfying to watch you do it though. Please carry on!
I'm not a huge fan of the line painting. A little bit is fine, but I don't find it very interesting when it goes on for a long time. My favorite part is when you go to a blank space and start building roads while explaining what kind of area it will be. And you zone it and add parks and pathways and special buildings, then the people start moving in and building it up! I like to imagine what it would be like to live in that area or drive through. I love when you put little corner stores, and I can imagine walking down a block or two on a hot day to grab a popsicle or walking on the little paths to get to a park! Very quaint and satisfying to me to think about the lives these little people can live
Love the new area. Would be cool to add some food trucks near the bayside. Maybe throw in a fountain somewhere? Cable cars up the mountain sounds so cool. Love the long episodes too. Mayyybe less time on line marking roads though. ❤❤❤
I find it very relaxing watching you detail the city... I also learn some things, and/or get new ideas for my own gameplay. I just started playing recently again after a few years of not playing, and then I saw you had a new series up and I was like "just in time to get back in the game." I had a decent city going, but then I had a horrible death wave and my whole economy collapsed... it did not recover from that. P.S.: Yeah some of the street marking are strange to me, but like you said you are going by what you know. I grew up in the U.S. but I am currently living in Mexico, I don't drive here since almost everyone I know here has stick shift and I only know how to drive an automatic but I do see the markings on the roads are different here than back home in the U.S.
I love ‘The Joy of Line Marking with flabiliki’ I watch these videos as I unwind for the night and the background music is even spot on. Soothing voice. I will watch you paint road lines and place a happy little tree here and a happy little tree there.
Thank you for the regular uploads. I’m sure you’re still busy with unpacking and getting settled and just… life in general. We appreciate it so so much and I am already obsessed with this series!
I really enjoy the lane marking. I saw some suggestions for doing a time-lapse of it, but I really like the chilled out feeling of this series so far and a time-lapse/voice over might feel more forced.
The overhead shot at 1:18:15 showed a really nice view of the sprawling cityscape you've built. Seeing how your slow, steady progress builds into something more than the sum of its parts is one of my favorite things about this game
Is there an option to prohibit heavy traffic through your suburbs? That would help keep the trucks/commercial traffic out of your residential areas. I don't love the lane marking parts, but I suppose it's part of the game, so if you like it, keep going. (That was the most fence-sitting response ever)
FWIW: More than happy to watch you create the lines, I'm learning all the time, even after almost 1k hours into the game. You need to share your modlist though!
I've been loving the new series, and the longer episodes are very much appreciated! I enjoying watching them in a few sittings so I can spread out the content.
One of the things that always frustrated me into quitting Cities Skylines games was traffic problems, so these videos have been phenomenally helpful for teaching me how to actually do it properly (with the line markings and nodes and such)
I don't mind seeing line markers being done on camera. I like seeing how you process it and make the decisions. Didn't you used to have an external road editing program that lets you add parking and lane markers to existing roads? I feel like that could save time on your end if you were to use tweaked roads frequently in other areas like when you were adding parking lines to the 4+2 lane off the highway in your city.
Thank you for the uploads James! I've been really sick with COVID this week and this series has been exactly what I needed to keep me entertained between naps 💕
I am loving this new series. Also, I realllllly feel like you need to watch a bit of Biffa's traffic fixes to get the best use out of your road systems and the mods you are using!
I learnt a neat trick with making sure your one way laneways don’t attract through traffic. Have all the East/west roads run ‘in’ to the centre, and all the north/south roads run ‘out’ to the edges. Then cars that go in have to turn 90deg to turn out and can’t go straight through no matter where they’re coming from or going to.
Bowser Bay sounds wonderful☺ And I enjoyed your detailing parts. I wouldn't say I'd watch 1,5 hours of road management, but this episode had a nice mix of everything. It's impressive to see this city grow and it all makes sense. I'm not sure the low residential will stay happy next to high commercial in your latest district, but I'm happy to find out next time!!
Loved the episode! I think as you expand, make another highway, or expansion of the current one, and when you get to the airport, you can build a toll road! That'll generate some hefty revenue!
I agree that I’m happy you’re back to playing cities. I’d like to suggest being careful with the node controller. Some cars have issue moving though intersections larger than 30-35
Very happy this series is back in my life. I don’t think you should worry yourself too much with planning out where railways should go or making room for future traffic. Many real cities don’t grow with that level of foresight and the result would be that you come up with more natural and improvised city design. It’s a much easier and much less stressful way to make a city seem more grounded. As for the Lane marking stuff, I personally don’t find it that interesting? It’s getting bogged down in details that ultimately don’t matter too much and could sacrifice being cut. Keep it in though if you enjoy it! Finally, now you’re starting out High Density zoning, you should check out an excellent video that Overcharged Egg put out last week about making early high density looking good. I’ve found it really helped my cities! ☺️ Can’t wait for more
i love seeing you add all the lines/fiddle with the roads and stuff. i always watch your videos and it helps me make my city better. it’s also relaxing to see you customize your city and make it nice and pretty. watching you play this game has been my comfort thing to watch since i was a teenager😂
In the UK we have things called industrial estates, which are just off smaller motorway-like roads and are a similar size to the estate you built but full of big shops, car dealerships, outlets etc! It would work well with smaller commercial zoning :)
Honestly? I'm seriously just so happy you're doing City Skylines again that yes, watching you do lines on a road is fun! It's relaxing. I have anxiety really bad lately and these videos help me so much so James, THANK YOU for going back to it! I mean I love this so much that I've gone back and started rewatching the Park Life series! So chill, so much fun!
Dude, I like watching you struggle with the mods. It gives me so many ideas, and I'm learning a lot. This is one of the best Csl series I've watched in the long time
The waterfront area reminds me of Queenstown's lakefront, along with parts of Tauranga and Auckland (all in NZ), as well as St Kilda in Melbourne. If you ever need ideas for the beaches in this series/city, it might be worth having a look.
I love vids like this. its chill to watch and I love how creative you can be! it also gives me an idea of how I can customise my roads when I'm playing, especially since I'm in the UK so I'm left hand drive too
22:35 - The silence and sputtering as you realize that everything you did (and looked good!) was for nothing. far too relatable. We cry laughed together.
Wow! This one starts off with a great tutorial! I like to see how you fiddle with the mods, I learn a lot in the process. PS, you could've added an additional node close to that mega intersection, like it is on the other side. That way you could've recovered at least some of the zoning.
I don't mind watching you doing the fine detailing on the roads markings its nice to know how do it its great to see cities skylines back i don't minde if you want edit out the bits from the video iam really enjoy the series
I love watching you play with roads, I think they're my favourite part of the game, honestly. them and public transport. ooooh, and interchanges. also, there are four-lane four-tile no-median roads in vanilla+, james. and to combat iffy collision, you might de-tree the entire region, and then sort of quickly detail the vegetation yourself, in roaded & zoned areas I mean. that's what I do, and it decreases the total tree/prop count.
55:31 Australia and the US have different definitions of "fast." That road would likely be an 80 or 90 in the US. Heck, a standard 4-lane avenue would likely be 70, but no-one would call that fast, and the added greenspace between the two directions definitely means you can bump up the speed.
I'm so happy Cities is back! This video helped me to adult today, I managed to stay on the treadmill even though I wanted to give up halfway through. So thanks for helping me get healthy, James!
