Well, of course you're having a hard time finding single men that want to prepare for doomsday in Utah. They either want to prepare for doomsday but are married or they're single and don't give a crap about doomsday bc they just want to get married. 🤣 I miss Utah. 😞

Been in the Prepper realm for many years and still don't have a "team" or "group" and here are the biggest problems I have had. 1. Joined a local Prepper group and was the youngest member by about a decade, and I was 47. Most people could not run 50 yards without a major medical problem. Sure they knew some gardening information but that was about it. Asked about starting a Radio Net or simply establishing a common frequency for the "group"; most didn't have a license and those that did, weren't interested. 2. They are one step from a militia and I mean the bad kind. I'm into firearms and small government, but I'm not into overtly antigovernmental stuff. My goal is to NOT be on a government agencies radar. 3. Hanging around places to meet like minded people is expensive. You want to meet other lonely drinkers.....you can milk a beer for some time. Want to meet people that shoot or are into survival things; that takes serious money.....just to hang around, otherwise you come off as a moocher. Not a moocher, just not made of money. 4. You must spend this much to ride this ride. Found a group once that had minimum requirements and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but this groups requirements were way outside of the midclass price range in my area. They require nigh vision for example. 5. Came straight off the set of Doomsday Prepper.....you know the kind of person whose elevator doesn't go all the way to the top. I would love to be part of a "team" or "group" but I want them to be just normal people and not have to drop cash like I grow it on a tree. People prepare incase bad shit happens, but odds are that it won't so we also have to prepare for retirement and on my yearly income both are not possible, so I plan for the likely.....retirement.

I feel like it’s much more reasonable to just know a group of people in your local area that you have all agreed will help each other primarily and others secondarily during a natural disaster. I would make sure you’re all capable of handling a gun but I wouldn’t make that the main focus. Having medical knowledge is a must to help in disaster situations so that’s inherent to the idea. If the government does collapse you will likely see it coming. Same with society. I think you’ll have enough time to transition your group into a primarily defensive role where you’ll put more emphasis on tactics and communication.

It's all in the title. There's people who care about being prepared but are otherwise normal, and then there's the Preppers with a capital p who are going to range from conspiracy theorist losers to dangerous lunatics. If you're a religious man, there's plenty of mindful preparedness in the Church. Hunters, fishermen, backpackers, and all other manners of outdoorsmen will have a greater percentage of people thinking about being prepared vs the general population. The key is to find normal people doing normal things who think the same way you do, rather than trying to find normal people in a group that attracts deviants by reputation alone. It's like wanting to get into small unit tactics by trying to join a public militia organization. For every normal guy who just wants to train you'll find 10 dudes that are spouting things which will get you on a federal watchlist.

The problem I have with finding group members in church is the amount of Christians I see that acknowledge bad times are coming but they think Jesus is coming with it, and their plan pretty much consists of clutching their bible and, well that’s it.. I have a partial benefit of building a crew of people I've known for a long time. What I did, or did until I started traveling for work, was designing meetings akin to a boy scout meeting. The goal of the meeting is to share skills and knowledge, then do small dry fire sessions since a lot of these happen in houses. Working on things like medical, survival, bushcraft, house care, planning, prep. How much food do you have in surplus? Oh you're low? Here's a 5 gallon bucket of beans and here's one of rice. Put a couple dollars away to throw some more shit into the long term pantry. I assigned homework additionally. This meeting have a radio and know how to use it. By next meeting, I want everyone to have a TQ, mounted on any kit you plan to wear with a gun. Meeting after that we're outfitting rifles. At least a sling and a white light

While it’s better to be on the safe side , feds usually aren’t going to be 007 tier especially with something so small potatoes as even a group of 50. 95% of the time they flip someone in the group already somehow (money, legal threats, etc). Take the infamous Randy Weaver case. Undercover deputy befriended him for two years before asking him to saw his shotgun off when he knew Randy needed the money. Don’t break the law is the obvious solution. In SHTF law doesn’t matter. Until then everyone needs to obey the law to the letter. Eject anyone immediately from the group who encourages breaking the law. Now you can have a group as based as you want while being as secure as you can reasonably be.
@PistolsPlayground
@PistolsPlayground Год назад
Let me also add, depending on what your goals are (which in my opinion should ultimately be self sustainability) don't necessarily count someone out because of age. While a 60-70 year old farmer isn't ideal for defense, and combat. But they have a lot of skills, and usually equipment that makes getting shit done easier. Also, they can help with sustainment, and keeping defensive things running. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, don't count someone out because their strengths aren't "high speed" cool guy shit.

The largest issue is *not* what to do with, or how to vet, or important training milestones for a group. *The issue is simply finding like minded people.* And I don't mean narrowly, as in "must be a good fit for my fire team". At this point I'd settle for hippie backpackers, fudd hunters or simply people that work outdoors. Cast a wide net, 'cause when it's time we'll be training up everyone. Get prepared for that now. As an Expert Rifleman, better than average pistolero, Eagle Scout and Patriot, finding interested parties (even unskilled ones) is not trivial. We almost need armbands/T-shirts/hats that call-out our desire to learn & train. Something _obvious_ to others. Even logoed apparel is not enough in most cases.

I've been involved in a lot of groups in the past for a lot of different things, offroading, hiking, computers, radios, etc. Sometimes if you want to get good at something, you need some specialization, and if you're around long enough, you eventually become OG. If your over-arching interest in SHTF prep, being able to draw from a deep and wide base of people who have specialist skills, but are also interested in the same stuff you are is a valuable way to recruit. I've also learned that an informal recruiting process, and keeping the invitations minimal, and not taking getting ghosted personally are very important. Great video, good points, the one takeaway that needs emphasis: in order to lead, you must be the leader, which means you need to set the standard. Too many groups out there end up having a leader with a very low standard, and it's just downhill from there.

Look at all major and minor conflicts. Those who were present before the major event were extremely small compared to the post-event roster. My question is: are groups that are forming right now staying secluded or will you accept others after the flashpoint? Has it been decided how you will vet newcomers? Will you keep to yourselves if other larger groups form? Or will you try to grow yourselves into one of those major groups?

It’s absolutely important to have a group of people that can fraternize during an emergency, but it’s very difficult to vet people for quality that aren’t your friends- and even most of my friends don’t have the same impetus to learn about preparedness. Not meaning to dunk on my friends, they just have different priorities and responsibilities while the comforts of society allow for it- and I encourage them to enjoy it. I just don’t want to be the sole dependency if something goes wrong after I’ve mentioned these things to friends that don’t end up working out for a team, because I can’t exactly hide my dedication. Or worse, become a target to friends that I’ve previously trusted when desperation sets in for ill-prepared individuals. I’ll certainly be stretched too thin between my own friends and family if I’m alone. I’ve also never exactly viewed myself as a leader, and those are in short supply of competence and number the more niche your interests. The problem with joining a group is that you have to know everyone for a near decade to really understand how to communicate and determine their motivations. There are far too many scattered groups in my state that have extremist fringe political beliefs or are religious zealots that would only divide themselves from any potential community bridges and start conflict if they reached out. That’s why I hesitate looking for groups at churches, on certain YT personalities’ communities, or under-supervised online forums. They already draw enough ire without having the teeth that absent of unilateral law and when morality is determined by oppression would allow for. Bottom line, it’s arduous to find and form groups of people that want to help people for the sake of helping people and not furthering some agenda or “culling of the weak” to establish their own private fiefdom.

Just now finding this video and your comment but I'm in the same boat. I tried starting groups in a previous state and the group members were not as serious about it as I was. Now after watching this I'm going to try and start a legitimate group and hopefully with what's going on in the world maybe more individuals will see the necessity of it.

Honestly, I have been fortunate enough to find likeminded individuals wherein the people (myself included) found spouses and partners that actually support this aspect of a "hobby"(for some) and job for others. Fact of the matter is that we genuinely show hard work and our partners understand the point of all of this in genuine outcomes. The last 3 years have highlighted this. You have a choice gentlemen, their rigid disposition from this will cost you majorly if it is not respected long term, especially if the time is needed. I highlighted this to many along my way through building this group if you wait until things get bad again to try at it, you are too late. Working at a gun shop for quite some time i hammered with people that they have always been the only ones responsible for their safety and protection, the tab has always been increasing in cost, you have just been ignoring it.

Cali is pretty bad when it comes to getting decent modern guns, but Cali also has a HUGE amount of public lands where you can train with the boys. All of these have been valid factors in my years long quest to maintain groups that have taken on various identities, to the point that now I essentially just have a network of different friends all over my state that I wouldn't call a conglomerate group but just various people I can lean on at different times for training who all generally agree that should we have to, we'll meet up. One factor that was not mentioned that is likely very specific to me is that I experienced as a leader of these groups multiple times allowing my own personal issues help degrade the fidelity of the group. Whether that be beefs popping up with members, or over sharing things in my personal life that brought my competence as a leader into question, I would say that solidly presenting yourself as a leader and maintaining the proper reputation, keeping a level head, never losing your temper, these are all big factors in leadership in general. Put your best foot forward. While I have personally at this time exhausted my energy toward group building and would prefer to just join up with a competent already established group if given the chance, if I could do it all over again and remind myself of what I just mentioned I feel I'd of been much more successful.

Machiavelli is often maligned as cynical and power hungry. He was merely a reflection of his environment, that was also cynical and power hungry, and to prove it it sent him into exile. That said, the Prince is a short read and may help. I generally find that the level of intimacy you can have with someone often really depends on other factors in your relationship, i.e. those overshares can be done with peers, but not with subordinates. That said, if you have a group big enough to have subordinates, you're doing pretty good.

What are your thoughts on ALICE rigs? They’re outdated and all that, but the more I think on it, the more I’m convinced they’re a solution for me. When looking for a preparedness group, i would recommend your local church, volunteer fire department, and gun range with the caveat to look out for both safe and skilled as well as level-headed shooters (e.g. high skill competitions like 3gun or uspsa training groups). Online is cool as well, but look out for the occasional FED. If you have kids, get to know the other parents, you don't want you kids in most of the government schools anyways. And be on good terms with your local police if you can. Especially in free states.

I mean a night vision combat group is cool, but if your left neighbor has a chainsaw, the one to the right some power tools, and your local farmer a tractor to pull or push around some shit plus you know some other people with food and medical supplies and skills, you will be good for like 90% of natural disaster stuff.
