Big tip. Carve yourself an arrowhead out of bone. Make it sharp. And turn it into a necklace. You will never be without an arrowhead if you ever need one. Get yourself a deer antler and make yourself a small knife. Use the antler as a handle. The point on the antler can be used as a pressure flaker if you ever need more arrows and you happen to stumble on to some workable rock. The tip of your knife can be used to help knapp smaller pieces this way you're not putting hope on a can lid with no edge. And always keep a dried deer tendon in your survival pack. That can be broken up and used to make your arrows and you're not using up para chord. The tape fletchings. Genius. But really look into jewelry you can make and wear that says bushcraft. But can be used if ever needed. Great video. Like your efforts to learn. Keep it up

Just in case anyone wanted to know, Lilly didn't mention this, the DIY bow she made out of branches is normally called a "Father Son Bow". It may have other names. The Great thing about this bow is it is a compound bow via the way it's designed. . This means it will give you more power per square inch of draw than a normal solid one piece bow of like material, thus more range, power, speed to your arrows to help ensure a one hit one kill ratio which is always the goal.

I live in Canada (not even anywhere close to the arctic), and we've been having a super crazy ice storm over here. It just makes me wonder when this was filmed. If it were filmed over here, even a month ago, there would be a meter of snow on the ground.

One thing you may be interested in , is how they made arrows in the days of Robin hood 1. work bench with a groove the length of an arrow lay the wood inside the groove and by turning cutting away finally getting a very straight arrow I have seen this done, here on you tube but can't remember all the details.

Having seen very many of your videos, what I really appreciate is you showing us what *didn't* work, and explaining *why* it didn't work, and then showing how you figured out how to *make* it work in a different way (or not!) (i.e., explain the obstacles and how you you overcame them, and your reasoning - or failures). That's really good teaching. Honest lessons. Thank you, Lily! PS: Did you actually ever catch anything in your woven fish and bird traps?

I feel like the way the broad head was mounted would split the shaft after a few shots(if that many). Instead of hammering out the broad head completely flat, try shaping it into an oblong cone and slip it over the shaft then shaping it to fit snug on the shaft. Just my 2 cents

Hi Lilly, by making your bow you're demonstrating that you must be versatile when in a survival situation. Of course I don't think most people would carry the things you used to make your bow, but it makes me think that it can be done and now I'll pack similar objects into my pack. That's why I really like your videos they make outdoors people think of alternatives that can be used. Excellent methods ... cheers!

You have a way of presenting yourself as knowledgeable and worthwhile, but was thinking that putting you into the realm of forest in the Pacific NW in the USA would really add some punch to your videos. Have had a chance to so some camping in Bavaria and spent much time in the rain forests of the Pacific NW. Packed in on a three day trip using only a plastic tarp in snow, waist deep, and learned how to set up a comfortable camp where we spent warm nights in snowing conditions. Thinking it would be fun to see you do this sometime, (just my plug for seeing you here in America's woodlands, with the wildlife associated here.) I have also made a bow from Yew wood which ended up being a powerful bow! Best of luck to you!

Excellent job. Something to consider, if you had sectioned the can lid into 1/6ths or 1/8ths it would have made more broad heads, but more importantly it would have made them very sharp. They would not have been very durable, but using then to take some medium sized game, (turkey or groundhog/marmot I'm thinking, I don't know about Europe) one arrow could feed you for a few days, or more for larger game. And then you could manufacture more durable points from the bones. Just something to think about. Thanks for making these videos

You can use heat to straighten your arrows. That way you can use higher strength arrows and are not limited by a naturally straight one. Also, try shooting some arrows without fletchings, you'll be surprised how accurate(enough) they are. Keep it up.

So many survival bow videos to watch.. Hopefully they inspire people to get into bow making so they have the skills before they ever wind up needing to make a workable bow in the field. Maybe it's not the potential of the particular bow in the video that matters but the inspiration from the video to research methods and designs and to start practicing after you have your morning coffee... Today. Yep, today is a good day to start leaning how to make bows and arrows.

@IroquoisPliskin
@IroquoisPliskin 8 лет назад
All you need to do something basic enough to survive is a knife. You can shape the whole thing using a knife and wood, you wouldn't even need bamboo, like some people show us. For the cord, you can make one with plants fiber you find on the nature. The arrow can be a stick that is a bit thick, so you can shape its edge well, until it gets good enough to be able to kill an animal with the impact of impaling. I don't know if I explained well, but no one will have all those things in the video when he's lost in the nature.
