I made my own 3000mah 4s li-ions, pretty easy to follow Oscar Liang's guide. I also have that 2000mah Auline li-ion and the extra 1000mah definitely helps, flying my flywoo explorer lr. Pretty cool 5inch build though!

I'm really impressed with the hd quad I just build, I can cruise around for about 8 and a half minutes on a 6s 1300 lipo on 1950kv motors and it flies great asweal !

Great overview of this build. I've been using the floppy gemfans. They worked well doing basic freestyle. They did not survive crashing into a tree, lost half my blades. It didn't get stuck up there which is good. I think the Dal folders have a better hub design, I'll try them next. Happy flying Albert 🤓

Wicked cool. Ion is the future. I recommend BetaFPV X-Knight 5" with some dave_c motors... has been working decent for me so far on just 2S (26 minute flight time). Also-- Those are the nicest M3 screws on those motors I have ever seen!

Veri interesting to see someone achieving long flights compared to the dji fpv! It would also be awesome to see someone replicate what dji has achieved with their fpv drone as for flight time, its quite heavy compared to our carbon drones.

NIce looking build! That frame that is in the works sounds really interesting. Will it be a similar weight to the FPVCycle Fouride 5 inch? The fouride 5 inch is around 70g by the way. Kabab flew the 5 inch version with a 3s LiPo, 2203 3000kv motors, and got decent flight times. It seemed to be a solid freestyle performer.

Very smooth motors but on the power side, quite weak. It's gonna be for cruising and efficiency. Not for racing or freestyle.

I just got this frame but I have the caddx micro air unit with the caddx camera that is 19mm x 19mm. I see you used a TPU mount for your camera instead of the carbon fiber mount can you let me know where I could pick that mount up at?

If you're using the DJI controller, no receiver is needed.

Yes, it will fit but you'll have to use a custom TPU printed mount for the camera like I have for the DJI camera.

In the past, i was using 1806 motors, 2300kv and just 5inch biblades. It weighed 190gms without lipo...With continuos acro/freestyle flying with 4s 1300mah lipo, i was getting at least 7.5 to 8mins flight time...im guessing that now with better LiOn batts, we should get >12mins. What do you think?

Have you tried that battery on something like a more standard 5" freestyle? I'm wondering if I picked up that battery if I could use it for longer flight times and slower but more cinematic flights. Perhaps the 3000mah

It will probably work but you'll have no power whatsoever. It will be barely enough to cruise around and that's about it. FYI, stick to lower KV motors under 2400kv for 4S. OR put in a motor output limit to reduce the amp draw otherwise it won't get off the ground.

Nice Build Albert. Looks like you couldn't a got 10+ minutes easily. I've been flying with 4 of those same batteries with my iFlight XL-5 with a gopro7 and I get around 10 minutes or so cruising. They're really inexpensive...around 20 bucks each. Also, I've seen 3000 and 3500mah versions from other manufacturers I'd like to try out.

@@AlbertKimTV Completely agreed. There are a lot of guys that are new to the hobby and/or fly commercially who demand longer flight times and fly cruise cinematic style. So the LiIon batteries are ideal.

ZOHD have out a whole range of Li-Ion packs available in 18650/3500 & 21700/5000 sizes with various cell counts- not as cheap but much better than those AuLine packs.... Well worth checking out! ;)

I like the folding props, however, for testing purposes, you should really try some bi blade non folding props. I also have noticed that I tend to get better flight times after the motors have had enough flights to break them in.

I've heard that "breaking in motors" is a myth. Where is there data to back this up?

@@AlbertKimTV I don’t have data on this, but I felt disappointed with the initial flight times on some of my builds but later found I was getting what I expected. This was with Xing motors. The construction of the motor may have an effect on this. I would actually like to see tests done on this.

Interesting... I hadn't notice this on Xing motors. I'll have to see how the Chimera4 does over time. Are you using the same batteries? Maybe that might be a factor.

@@AlbertKimTV This is what I know about bearings from working in a bicycle shop for years. Traditional bearings are adjustable. If they are too loose or too tight, the races pit. There is a very narrow range that is an acceptable adjustment, however it is a range. If you go absolutely as loose as possible to prevent slop in the bearing, they will loosen up, especially if the bearing is new. Non adjustable bearings need to be adjusted towards the tighter end of acceptable to have a decent life span. New bearing race surfaces can very from looking almost like a matte surface to having a mirror finish. Even the matte surface starts to look like a mirror finish on the thin track where the bearings move after a lot of use. Keep flying the quad for a month and see if you notice a change in flight times. I do use a variety of batteries, but do not feel that accounts for all the differences in flight time.

I bought this exact battery and my charger only charged it up to 16.4 volts. How high should this bettery get charged and discharged to?

You charger settings are limiting the final voltage. Mine goes up to 16.8v.

Yes, you will get instant voltage sag. This is normal for Li-ION batteries.

How about a word or two about that humongous capacitor you have on that build (and some other recent ones I've noticed)? I thought the DJI video would be clear without that?

The capacitor is not jut for analog video noise. It's for cleaning up electrical noise in general. Electrical noise is what causes video noise in analog video. It can also mess with your PID tune. So I have it on there mainly for keeping a nice PID tune without adding a lot of filtering.

I like this, but also want something that can still do higher speeds and moderate freestyle/mountain diving and get better flight times, maybe 10 minutes or longer with a change of flight style. The MOD-L frame caught my eye, but also Dave C's mini long range.

You should be able to get awesome flight times out of that bird it’s so light I’m using the 3000mha 4s battery it’s 1000mha more amps and only 4g heavier I use them on my marmotte that I set up for long range it weighs in at 436g with a 200g battery it flys for 18 min consistently I just built a 4100mha 4s battery that weighs in at 300g using 21700 Li-ion cells 30c and on these it flys for a solid 23 min consistently I’m running 2306 2150kv motors

Thanks for the tips esp with batteries. Regarding this frame, I made one up using this and was ok until it had a light crash, about 10m it fell from hover as prop came loose. The front arm really suffered , not only is the carbon bendy and weak but one of the mounting screws tore through the lower frame plate as so little carbon holding it in place. I repaired but same happened again, decommissioned it after that and went iflight dc5. Guess with cruising quad there's less chance of crash 👍

I’ve been trying to build something similar but I’m having trouble finding motors. Everyone seems to be using the 12x12 mounting and it gives me a headache figuring out which frames to with which motors.

That is still too heavy i made one way way bigger then this and weight 1.5kg with out battery and it give me 30min flying time with 4s lipo 8000

folding props are a waist! only way be good is if slow fly between trees maybe as a safety! then be 2 prop only.. reason : 2 blades are quiet/efficent/ no thrills but long flight times/ way easier to BALANCE!!!! 3 blades are for speed! 3 blades are loud + vibrate and non balance capable- they build identical as can .. when together.. there out balance a bit- /not as important if raceing! Sooo -2 blades are better in every way for lighter/ better video- no vibrates/smooth and easier on batter time!

I would say three blades are less efficient and only benefit is more thrust if you can't fit a larger two blade. otherwise you're just swinging extra weight and taking more energy to do it.
