I love it, “hey, there is a steel structure, let’s tune it with the G90” lol

Cool. Yep, as soon as I saw that tower I thought, "He's gonna try to load that thing up."

That would have been interesting to say the least. I've heard of loading up stuff like bedsprings, ladders, metal rain gutters, even curtain rods, just to see how they will perform and what can be worked.

Somehow I missed the notification on this video, so I'm glad you mentioned it in this mornings episode. What a great idea. I just happened to have two toroid's sitting in a box waiting for an assignment. Fantastic video and what a beautiful park. Thanks as always Walt for another great, informative video. Honestly, you keep me going in this hobby. 73 de KA9TII

Hi Walt, Received the HamAlert when you were at W1 and was listening, but didn't hear you. The G90 probably would load that swing support tower. Steve K5ATA once connected his G90 to a handrail on a dock during a POTA in MS. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U

Hi Walt I have been enjoying your videos for some time I built the 29ft vertical with the 9:1 today in my little garden in England works a charm seems to be outperforming the sigma360 much quieter all the best

That was great fun. love that kit. 2 UNUN on 1 board. I just saved it. I got the ten tenna 49:1 /56:1/64 :1 switchable one saved as well. bands weird and in Boston NY we got record heat and super HUMID. power staying on. was down to 110V doing 115V now. normally around 121 V hear. Rode Island is hard for me. some times 40/80 meter NVIS I get on FT8 . nice clear heat shrink. 73's

Thanks for sharing, seems the first ant setting worked best, if not least, there seemed less noise. Good set up for local qso's. Looks a good fishing spot also. 73.

What a perfect location! The "Dually" is a great idea and hats off to K4QCD for making them. Thanks Walt for sharing some of the history on Rocky Point. We had a ton of amusement parks here in New England after WWII, and they're just about all gone now. PS. Can't wait to see how the tower loads up. It appears to be grounded, so a shunt feed would be best. Try it anyway! Every conductor will radiate and this will be a fantastic experiment. 73 OM 👍

It was great and I’m so glad I found this spot. There are concrete footing pads at all four corners of the tower that might actually help me out. We will see very soon. 73 my friend!

Walt, You could try building a linked radiator which would allow you to change from a EFHW to EFRW without taking the wire off your mast. I really like the idea of this UNUN and might just have to give it a try. Good Job, Ross, K8RLB

For random wire antennas, a switchable 1:1 (i.e., direct connect), 4:1 and 9:1 UNUN would be a handy device.

Whiskey one represents the ARRL call area that he's operating out of. New England is whiskey one, Southeast is whiskey 4. You can find a map of the sections if you really want. It's not required to use them, it just lets people know that you're not from there but you're operating from there

Can someone explain why he adds /W1?
@truckinguy92
@truckinguy92 24 дня назад
The /W1 is no longer required to be added to your callsign. The bands are wonky? You just made contacts with SD & WA using 20w. How does that make them wonky?
@COASTALWAVESWIRES
@COASTALWAVESWIRES 24 дня назад
I’m doing it because I have a separate log for up here. I probably won’t use it all the time but I like separating my contacts out by location and using /W1 is completely acceptable. The band had horrible QSB, you could hear someone for a minute and then completely loose them. That’s what I meant by wonky.
@DarkShadowCustoms
@DarkShadowCustoms 24 дня назад
@@COASTALWAVESWIRES I was thinking the same thing truckinguy92 mentioned, but I can understand using the /W1 designation if you are using a separate log for that area. Make sure you add that /W1 as an additional callsign on your POTA account. Hopefully the park to park contacts included the /W1 when they logged you. A good reminder for folks to log what they hear.

@@Sabre2165 New ham here...are we supposed to use a different call sign for different areas within the US? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere other than for outside the US.
@Sabre2165
@Sabre2165 24 дня назад
@@dadthejedi There is no legal requirement to do this within the US. It used to be that, if you moved to a different region of the US, you had to have a new call sign to identify where you live. That rule is gone, but many operators add a location code to indicate where they're actually operating from if other than where they live. For example, if you have callsign W1W and you're operating while on vacation in Hawaii, you might call yourself KH6/W1W or you might say "W1W stroke KH6." This quickly lets others know that they're making a contact with someone in Hawaii.
@COASTALWAVESWIRES
@COASTALWAVESWIRES 24 дня назад
Correct, I only do it because I’m logging it that way in QRZ so I can keep a correct record of my contacts while I’m here. Thanks for explaining. 73, Walt
