Hello my dear friends.
Thanks for the nice comments on the previous episodes. I read them all and I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I would also appreciate a lot if you can support my channel by subscribing!
/ @matthiascabinchronicles
In this episode, I build a wooden floor construction and temporarily put boards on top of it to have something to walk on when I build the walls. When I will remove these boards after building the roof, and use them under the insulation of the floor to hold the insulation, then I will put proper nice boards on top of the construction.
If you want additional information for the video, you can turn on optional subtitles in the video.
Enjoy🌲

More about me:
When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I chose the traditional method of building - using only hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. I also started this RU-vid channel where I share my entire journey, so if you are interested, you can check it out. There is no one behind the camera, so I do all the filming and editing myself. I would also be very grateful if you would support my journey by subscribing or sharing, if you want to.
Thank you for being here, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you're watching. I will try to make videos as best as I can, so that you get the greatest enjoyment from them.
Thank you all for your attention. Enjoy!

Concerns: Need to remove topsoil under foundation blocks, use solid blocks rather than hollow concrete block, Have support on the beam ends besides screws holding it up, shorter joist span for 1" floor boards, don't put floor seam all on the same joist. You may outlive that floor. It is OK to learn from those that have gone before.

Every task that people set for themselves always involves a certain number of steps that need to be addressed one by one until each is finished to the best of ones abilities. And then when you come to the end of each step what a feeling of great accomplishment you must experience. If not, then I certainly do for you! Thanks for taking the time to record each one of your many and diverse steps and putting them in order for the rest of ..... us to share right along with you. One day, and soon I hope, you will learn to insert some form of accompanying music to freshen and liven up your videos. I'm not saying they are dull no not at all but just suggesting a way to kick things up a notch. Can't wait to your next video. See ya on the flip flop! Me southern AZ. (USA)

I admire the work you do. But I've gotta admit I'd be all over a generator and battery operated tools. I used plenty of handsaws, brace & bit, etc when I was young. I also was glad to see that you got onto the floor before completing walls and roof. I've often wondered why more cabin builders didn't do that. It seems to make a lot of sense. Look forward to more!

I’ve always wondered, what would using a combination of both look like? I know you need nails for their sheer strength, but would adding screws here and there help, hurt, or just not rly matter?

With the seam on a single beam, it creates a week spot. Would be better to alternate the seam on opposite side, and with three pieces it’s even more important to scatter them throughout the floor. But this is your build and you do as it pleases you. Happy building.

Thank you! Good question. These boards are just temporarily boards to have something to walk on when I build the walls. When I will remove these boards after building the roof, and use them under the insulation of the floor to hold the insulation, then I will put proper nice boards on top of the construction. I could not alternate these temporary boards because I had to add a temporary beam under the boards, which I would have to put on the other side also if I wanted to alternate the boards. Hope that makes sense.

I'm glad that my videos can help you. It is definitely better to raise the log cabin on pillars so that it does not rot from below. The depth of the foundation of the pillar depends on where you live and what the soil is like where you want to build. I didn't have to dig very deep because the soil here is quite hard during all seasons.

Just subscribed and watched all your work all at once. I've never understood using all hand tools unless its a budgeting issue. Its certainly nice to know you can do the job using old skool tools but once you know then use modern tools. Cordless chainsaw is the best way to go it keeps the noise down

Your work ethic is on par with the 1800ds standard. Excellent to say the least. No offense you might have wanted to stagger the joists of the floor planks . Also place a pillar nearly at the end of each 4x4 for structural reasons. The only thing that is holding the end of the load of the floor are two screws.

А пол утеплить?! У тебя два слоя брусков на пол постелены с перекрещивание ! Этой толщины достаточно для утепления пола! А уж потом стели чистовой пол!

These boards are just temporarily boards to have something to walk on when I build the walls. When I will remove these boards after building the roof, and use them under the insulation of the floor to hold the insulation, then I will put proper nice boards on top of the construction.

I appreciate the hand tools, but man I'd sure have electric tools!

Very nice work but I was wondering are you going to insulate the floor and what about rodent protection?

I'm not sure how much one board cost me, but I remember that I paid around 160 euros for all boards for the entire area I covered.

Uncanny. From a few meters it’s as if I’m looking at my doppelgänger. And I do the same sort of things too…

Would be so much easier to buy a cabin and have them install it for you

No floor insulation? No rosemary for the steak? Love it anyway

Those screws are not meant to handle that kind of load. They make hanger nails and screws. I would use Simpson 10d 3” nails in this scenario.

)) фантасмагория какая то, никакой логики в конструкции нету, вообще нет, не надёжно, но видно как человек старается, молодец. На первый раз и такое сойдёт.
