It's the moment we've all been waiting for! It was time to give my new baby #AfricanGrey parrot here new home! We went to a local pet market called Cartimar Pet Center in Manila and selected a large #cage suitable for an African Grey parrot, a long with suitable wooden branches. Come see how she reacts to it!

My bio is pretty random: In short, I am a professional singer/songwriter from Toronto, Canada who moved to Manila, Philippines which sorta became my Hollywood because my first RU-vid channel MIKEYBUSTOSVIDEOS grew popular due to Filipino comedy videos. Meanwhile, I'm also a big biology geek who is obsessed with ants, so I built an internationally operating ant business supported by another popular channel called ANTSCANADA, and well basically, today I travel and tour around the world doing what I love so I wanted to start this vlogging channel, in hopes to encourage you guys to follow your dreams no matter how random, by showing you what happened when I followed mine! You just never know where life will take you when you listen to the yearnings of your heart!

Hey Mikey! It is best to remove that box from the cage, I understand how you can see it as a "safe" place, but for your baby grey it's actually re-creating the nest. This can cause her to progress less active, or she might just not progress at all with that box, because that's where she wants to be all the time. When you make a big change, best is to let them get used to it, and move on to the next step. My advice is to remove that box, and let her get used to it. A move is stressful, but two moves (because you leave the box in there and it has to go out eventually) can cause even more stress. I hope you understand this :P, parrots aren't easy to keep huh? ;)

@@corvus5801 it does more harm than good to the bird. She can probably stay on the bottom of the cage fine without it

@@corvus5801 i do. Do you? There are plenty of other ways to have a bird get used to the bottom without getting them hormonal and encouraging nesting behaviour. Its not that big of a deal but Im pretty sure you dont want your bird, especially a bigger parrot like an african grey, to become too loud, territorial, aggresive to people and start biting off your fingers. Parrots are needy and demanding. Even harder to take care of when theyre hormonal. mikey also said she's still learning to perch so she would be spending most of her time on the bottom with the box. He is most likely not aware of this given there's very few people who own parrots in philippines and we're just informing him.

Oh, I read online that the babies need a box to feel secure in the new wide open space. Is this incorrect information, or just difference in rearing preference?

I guess it's preference. Without box its 1x stress. with box and later removing it, means stress x2

Hi Mikey - new subscriber but looooong time (30+ year) parrot owner/breeder - You've done a GREAT job with the cage. Way more than big enough, accommodating to baby (AG's are notoriously clumsy babies, like the literal worst for stumbling over themselves as babies). The only thing (and this vid is a few days old so you may have already done it) is to give her more stuff to tear apart - you're definitely spot on for them liking to undo knots, but birds interact with their world by tearing stuff up and testing it with their mouth. The toys with the raffia to shred, the cotton ropes or sisal knots to undo with wood interspersed, basically - the busier, more knotted the toy, the more she's going to love it. You're doing a fabulous job, Dad. :)

That’s funny how watching the vlogs puts her to sleep because we do the same thing. We always watch Ants Canada every night to put us to sleep. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that it’s boring, it’s just your voice and narration is very soothing! 😌 #AntsLoveForever

Are you planning on potty training? That's a good thing to do and they are very trainable. I have a little Parrotlet (smallest parrot species in captivity, smaller than a budgie) and she is potty trained. :) Also lining your cage's pullout tray with some safe paper, either kraft or white paper towels or washable rags, changed daily, will protect your cage from dried up poop and prevent bacteria from growing. Sorry if this is unsolicited advice, but I'm so excited for your little African Grey. Is she a Congo or Timneh?

Mikey if you can get your hands on untreated lumber you can make her toys. Adding machine tape make great toys also, she can shred the paper. You can also build a play perch for the top of the cage with pvc pipe, you just can't use pvc glue. You have to screw it all together.

Ur so awesome & I LOOOVE UR baby bird (not sure how u spell her name - LaGuaya? Idk, probably wrong). But I melt when u sing to her bc she reacts & responds in such a beautiful way. One of the vet's I've worked for used to slot old phone books through the bars of the cage so that the parrots could shred it for a toy and it would fall to the bottom and then catch poo. But for adults parrots only.

On A RU-vid video a parrot was at the vet and had a ball of bits of twine in his belly and couldn’t digest. So I took all of that twine rope with those fibers that stick out, out of my baby macaws cage so he won’t chew and ingest them. I see that twine on all of the parrot toys so I don’t know if it was just a certain parrots habit to swallow it. But I don’t want to take a chance.

Your dad was an aircraft engineer/mechanic? How interesting! I'm a train mechanic (or carman, if you prefer). I come from a family of scholars (my mom is a teacher and my step dad is a doctor), so it was very new to me, but so far it's been my dream job!
