Thanks Ron. As far as the small router, I have a Ridgid cordless that has become my go to router for round overs and spline cutting, etc.. No bit drift, a micro adjust dial, arbor lock to tighten the bit, and very good run time per battery. On top of that, it's got a lifetime warranty.
A trick I learned about 1/4" shank router bits that are used in long term set ups. Before installing the router bit spray the shank with brake parts cleaner, remove the collect from the router and spray it too. This insures a clean surface to surface contact and no slippage!
My bit isn't slipping. I think the quality of the bearing and shaft on the Makita is the issue. I am pretty sure it is moving up and down slightly. It wouldn't be noticeable with a lot of bits, but with the 1/8" having the straight shoulder right at the cure, the small amount of slop shows up but is easily sanded off. I don't expect a $99 router to perform at the high level of one 4x the price but can still get the job done.
I dont know if you realize or not, but that little nub in the middle of the GluBot lid is to hold the red cover, so that its not dangling while you're using it!
That complaint you had with the Mikita was the same complaint Fine Woodworking had with it in their annual tool review. I ended up going with the DeWalt for a quick palm router and I’ve been very pleased, although in cordless versions, they rated the Rigid the highest. Best value and performance
Hello Ron, I am a big fan of the rolling shop and the passive stops. I am curious in the video 14 seconds in you have the Kapex mounted on top of your bench and the tracks extend to the left and right with stops. Was this the Kapex track system? and what are the levelers your using on either side of the saw under the track? Thank you, Bruce
I was wondering about your big drawers how much weigh do you think they would be able to hold? I like the simplicity of the slides but wonder if they would work for the weight I'm going to have in them. Easily a hundred pounds in big ones. I like your videos. Keep them going. Thanks
I sold my Smart Station and had not built another one at that time. I was using some Fastcap Miter extensions on a Paulk compact bench. The boxes beside the Blum were supports for the material being milled on the Blum. This was all a quick temp setup from 5 years ago.
So dangerous wearing flip flops while working. My uncle cut off one of his toes when he tripped and lost his hand hold on his portable table saw and dropped it right on his foot. Cut his big toe completely off..
