This is about building some simple pull out shelves to give us some extra easy access in our kitchen cabinets. They were built using rough cut ash grown in my back yard.

Found this video while looking for ideas for a pull out cabinet in my RV that will have a counter top on the cabinet box. The cabinet box will be mounted in the Oak Cabinets, where the pull out drawers are in now and I will put undermount drawer slides under it to make it a slide out box. Then I'll put the original pull out cabinet drawers, with Oak faces, inside the cabinet box. As you can imagine an RV has very little room in them. Your almost flush drawer sides are exactly what I envisioned in my head. But, I'm a gearhead and I work more with metal than wood. So this is not second nature to me. I could weld a frame together easy, but am trying to avoid weight and want to retain the estetics of the solid oak cabinetry in my Top End RV's interior. Thanks for the video.

nice job. i have a mobile diamention brand saw mill so i work with rough cut air dried lumber a lot. jointing-surfacing and sizing makes for a slower process, but if you have the machines to do so, lt is quire satisfying. not many would have any idea how to make a tree into lumber now days. i'm glad i'm one of them. us old folks that can just got to keep up the old ways! we can't afford to go to the lumber yard for their low quality boards anyway.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 4 года назад
Thanks. My little Hudson mill paid for itself the first time I used it. It's a slow process drying lumber without a kiln but very satisfying as you say. Having access to beautiful lumber that grew in the backyard results in large savings on projects like this. Plus there is another batch of trees growing where the old ones came down for future generations to enjoy. Thanks for watching.

Wow! Don't have the means or tools to undertake such a project, yet it was so interesting. We need more of our children to learn these skills. I am really glad you uploaded your entire process for others to learn from. Your video was not long at all.
@lass-inangeles7564
@lass-inangeles7564 5 лет назад
You know Dana, if you want your child to learn anything, you have to set the example. What are you doing to show them building skills? Anything??? The other issue is you say you have no tools. That is like saying, "Wow, you are such a good cook, and I would cook too, but.... I HAVE NO TOOLS!" Well go get some! And quit making excuses about not building anything. Its a state of mind nothing else. If you were hungry enough, you would start cooking immediately. Right? How badly do you want to build something - anything? Just do it. First project is hard. Next project is easy. How do you think I learned to build things? I started with one project. E.g. I want to build a bird feeder out of wood. Then got myself a table saw, and a drill, and an impact driver, and a random orbit hand sander. And I researched each tool to buy the best in my budget. Then went on RU-vid and saw how to build a bird feeder. Then looked up images of bird feeders. Then looked up how to use a table saw. There are important safety features with each. And you go get the goggles, hearing protection, gloves, etc. Each item needed learning. At the end I had my bird feeder. And all the tools to build other things too. Start with one project. Then another. It never stops. You will do your kids a service and liberate yourself from being a woman with no skills. FYI - Never buy cheap tools.

My wife and I are remodeling our kitchen and I'm doing all my lower cabinet shelves on good high quality drawer slides. We are long past the age when getting down on our hands and knees to get into the back of the shelves is even possible. Things used to get lost in the back of shelves. I built them with an 8" side across the back and 3" in the front so things wouldn't fall off. Roll outs make so much better use of the space.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
I have them on just about all my lower cabinets now. They make access so easy. I am surprised how smoothly the shop fox slides move given their low price. I used to spend 3x as much on the accuride slides and these are just as strong and smooth. Thanks for watching.

@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
It has been a great saw so far. The full kerf blade makes a lot of sawdust and when l get a chance l plan on 3d printing a new blade shroud that will allow a dedicated 2 1/2" hose that l think should handle the chips. My dust collector looses a lot of static pressure when it is restricted down like they do at the inlet. Thanks for watching.

Wonderful, detailed video, so very useful to watch and learn. I'd love to know what type of silicone brush you use for the gluing. Like spatulas, it is hard to find a good one that is stiff enough and not floppy bristles. Please give us a brand name and place you bought this. Much easier to use than a bristle brush. A tip for cleaning all brushes - I use soap and water and a steel sponge which does a nice job of scraping the bristles of latex paint or Titebond glue. Nice to see I'm not the only one demolishing shelving that is stuck too tight. Particle board shelves, boy these cabinets are build so cheaply these days. Great that you used real ash wood! I love the way you reuse the little leftover spaces in cabinets, this one is so tidy. Love the solid pull out drawers, simply perfect. Such good woodwork, wow! Now a few tips from me: 1. Please tie back your hair as it blocks the screen sometimes. You need a haircut. I encourage you to buy those scissors I mentioned in my last comment, from Amazon, and cut your own hair based on RU-vid videos. 2. Dog food. Feeding canned food 24/7 to your doggies is the surest way to giving them cancer. I do animal rescue and rehabbed many dogs. The key problem today is the myth that we need to feed our dogs this canned junk, which is absolute chemical junk with zero nutrition. Make your own dog food. Fresh hamburgers seared, top up with a veggie stew made with an assortment of veggies cooked thick - cabbage, bok choy, carrots, zucchini, squash, yams, etc. No onion, garlic, avocado, grapes, raisins, chocolate - all toxic for dogs. Vary the meats - chicken, pork, beef. Raw beef bones or turkey necks are safe. Add Iceland Pure Sardine and Anchovy Fish Oil from Amazon - 2 squirts and store in fridge. Now you have a splendid and healthy dog. Throw that pellet food out! Absolute rubbish that causes disease in dogs from cancer to rotten teeth. Don't feed canned food!!!! 3. Styptic powder available in pet shops or online, stop bleeding fast. I keep it around for my dog, nail cuts or wounds. After disinfecting a cut, press some of this on cut and it seals it fast, no more blood drips. Not for burns, sores, or where the skin needs to weep.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
I get my glue brushes from Woodcraft. They usually have a display at the check out counter. Hair is still growing. Thanks for watching.

Wow love your work and video. I want to build things but I don’t even know what a beginner would need as for tools go nor do I know how to make anything to cutting woods. Can you do video to help get me educated on what tools best to buy to make things as simple as planter stand or spoons and forks organizers for inside kitchen drawers? Thank you again for a good and well explain video.

You may want to search for a good book on getting started in woodworking. In some areas you may find adult education classes at BOCES type schools that offer starting woodworking classes. Home Depot has some great deals on battery powered tool kits that offer everything you would need to get started for a big discount that would be a good start and look for plans online to try. Good luck. Thanks for watching.

Brilliant as I can't bend or kneel like I used to so when we build our new kitchen I'll ask the builder to add something similar to the cupboards. Also all of my cupboards will be pull out pot draws along the bottom of my kitchen. Along the top we'll use a system where the shelves drop down so I don't have to risk a fall using a step ladder. Shared this video to my Aussie page too.

I have been adding these shelves to all my cabinets and they really increase the storage space in our little kitchen. Thanks for watching my videos.

Not only nice woodworking but very nice video work as well, Just enough actual motion video with superb audio description to accompany it. I particularly like the glide draw side technique. Your right it is always better to build the unit whole and then install it rather than having to go inside the cabinet and try to keep everything in line and true to level, it is back braking work and almost never really accurate. Modular assembly is always the best method when possible. I'm just ready to begin a new office desk and credenza and in desk there will be a set of file draws along with the standard draws that come with most premium desk builds. The draw joint technique used I have used since I was an apprentice back in Local 721 cabinet makers local in Los Angles and that was back in the late 60's But, I'm going to use your idea of the hidden glide sides, that's a new one on me. Thanks, it never hurts to keep looking for new ideas even if they say to me "it's not new I've been doing this for years."
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
The pullouts I made for my other cabinets were mounted to the cabinet carcasses and very tough to get properly aligned as you say. I have no formal training and try to keep things simple and easy to make.

Much ingenuity in there! really informative and instructive! Hats off for a woodworking veteran. I just got amazed at the patience you put in in terms of money effort and time. At 28:00, that was a hell of mess trying to knock that piece of wood to clear the way, and I realized why you did not glue the bottom plywood in the drawers earlier.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
It was a tight fit. Drawer bottoms should always be left floating for seasonal wood movement. Thanks for watching.

I absolutely love the idea of still using the doors on the side of the new installed cabinet. I think a lot of people will see those doors as redundant. I would have installed spice rack-ish shelves on the doors though in stead of in the left over cavity.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Thanks. There is a video about the pull out spice rack in the top cabinet that may interest you also. Thanks for watching.
