Didn't even dawn on me that I could put my piano underneath my desk on it's own stand vs a pull out tray. Very cool!

This is great, I"ve had this exact idea in my head for a couple months now, so happy to see somebody else beat me to the punch. I got my own design already, with bars to hold my 88-key piano below the desktop. Though, I have a neck injury, I have to build mine to about 40-45" so I can stand while I work. Great Video, thanks for sharing with the world.

A small flap of tape around the drill bit will let you keep track of the depth of screws for the wood predrilling

Superb video. Thanks for sharing. A couple tips for those looking to save even more money on materials... use an old interior door for the desktop and two half height filing cabinets (can often find people giving them away) to hold it up. Obviously not nearly as cool as this design, but can work in a pinch!
@1RungAtATime
@1RungAtATime 2 года назад
Good idea with the door and cabinets, but I'd caution people putting on too much weight if it's a hollow door that's usually used for the interior. A solid core door would be the stronger option.

I bought 2 IKEA KALLAX cubes 77x77 put a top over it, after a year or so, I used the industrial piping to make it a bit higher (I'm pretty big) and also used it to make some monitor stands. Now I'm considering to make a custom synth rack out of piping..

What did you use for your keyboard stand? Did it just slide on the floor to move it in and out? Also, over a year later, do you find that you like the dimensions? For example, is it hard to work on the computer keyboard and mouse when the music keyboard is out? What would you do differently?

Nice but no sliding tray and you can get an XL studio production desk with racks, riser, sliding tray these days from plenty of places eg thomann do one for under 300 pounds which is cheap imo.

Nice job! I would probably want to put a pull out tray for the keyboard but that's just me. My only fear is that I have a Korg SG1D, 88 key that has a little weight. I hope you did another video to complete it it. Thanks for sharing

Maybe a shelving unit box behind the desk so keyboard goes on the desk and monitor/computer goes on shelving block behind. Leave a small space in front of keyboard for your typing keyboard and mouse then you have no reaching for anything.

Great idea! I do a combination of things depending on which keyboard I want to play, but here’s a video of the finished desk: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oALy-ONFqI8.html

Great start and good idea for an affordable studio desk. I made something similar (with the pipe base) for an outdoor dining table. The pipes are a cool option. Looking forward to watching the rest of the process. For speakers, don't really know. I've only started my investigation recently but am looking into the Kali Audio IN-8 V2 8-inch Powered Studio Monitor as one potential. Who knows what I'll end up with. Keep on making the cool videos.

That's how I imagine my music studio table. The problem, according to my research, is that the smooth surface of the tabletop causes reflections and that's bad

I stained one of mine, but I have another I left unfinished. I would just sand it where you make the cut so it’s smooth and matches the other sides.

Is there one website where I can order all of the pipes, tees, couplings ect?
@paulgingell6603
@paulgingell6603 2 года назад
You can buy them from any fire protection supply shop where they sell pipe. $250 for that amount of pipe and fittings is quite high. A 1" tee is about $2.00 for us fire contractors to buy.

I had the same question, so I investigated a little. I think his keyboard stand is an On-Stage KS7350 that you can find on Amazon. You can see it better in his "Building a HOME STUDIO on a Budget - Part 1" video. I think the entire stand is on wheels. So when he pulls the keyboard forward or backward, the entire stand is rolling on the floor. That being said, I don't see that the On-Stage KS7350 comes with wheels. There are much cheaper options on Amazon that DO come with wheels though. It probably would not work well on a carpeted surface.

 @DSoundman Could you elaborate on this? what stand are you using to fit underneath?
@wylatron
@wylatron 12 часов назад
That’s kind of a bad plan for a ‘studio desk’ first of all, you’re too close to the wall, if you mount studio monitors, they will be too close to the wall, everything else starts to fall down from there. A studio isn’t made by led lights, it’s made by proper sound treatment, and a good listening position.

At 8:52 you call it an 'Oxygen Pro'.
@DSoundman
@DSoundman 3 года назад
Haha oops! I guess that’s what happens when I have too many controllers! Haha I’ll be putting the Hammer 88 Pro underneath and probably the oxygen pro mini up top! At least till I get a dedicated control surface for pro tools!
@thomaspaul311
@thomaspaul311 3 года назад
@@DSoundman Why not go with a Akai Professional’s MPK Mini III? You already get all the M-Audio software with the Hammer 88 Pro. The MPK has the same price, the same no. of pad button, and four more knobs. You won't get the software you get with the Oxygen, but does that matter? You get a joystick with the MPK but only 25 keys. What's a half-octave between friends?
@DSoundman
@DSoundman 3 года назад
While I do like the 360 endless knobs on the Akai, I’m not a fan of joysticks. The Oxygen Pro Mini also has way better DAW control, more features (chord mode, etc), and I’m just a big fan of how the oxygen pro line functions. Sitting on my desk the keys are a mute point as I have the hammer 88 pro. When I travel though, the oxygen pro mini will come with me...honestly, I have a couple 25 key boards and I like having the few extra you get on the mini...just my opinion though! 😄
