A 33g 3-inch toothpick? Oh yeah! This thing is awesome! It has quickly become one of my favorites for ripping around my backyard and community parks. You gotta see this! Full parts list and tune below...
There is no bind-n-fly drone like this at the moment, but all the parts are listed below. If you want to skip the build, then I suggest this 2.5-inch drone: bit.ly/2OmkbHw. It's also pretty amazing and has a similar light weight feel.
Parts:
- BabyTooth Frame (1.5mm thick version): bit.ly/babytooth_3in_frame
- FPVCYCLE 1202.5 Motors: bit.ly/2U1YUHj
- BetaFPV F4 AIO w/ VTX (I used the older FC without VTX but I think it has been discontinued): bit.ly/360DJtO
- BeeBrain v2 Canopy: bit.ly/3a12kjb
- RunCam Nano 3 Camera: bit.ly/39w6QFK
- Gemfan 3018 2-blade props w/ 2mm shaft, as shown: bit.ly/2t3Ee6Y
- Gemfan 3016 3-blade props w/ 2mm shaft are another great option: bit.ly/2tM6NWN
- RENY screws on the canopy: bit.ly/3au3KD5
- Custom Rx and VTX antennas made by cutting these cables: amzn.to/2UoTOFg
- M2x3 motor screws (titanium if you can find them).
- Cloth tape for motor wires: amzn.to/2GUm5PD
- 2mm zip ties for antennas (Cheap option: amzn.to/3bSgBAu, better option: bit.ly/2DVSsfF)
- No prop screws (they are already tight enough with the 2mm shaft)
- 20AWG power lead
Batteries:
- GNB 450mAh HV 80C 1S: amzn.to/2Rh9ojz
- GNB 520mAh HV 80C 1S: amzn.to/2QV5AF6
- BT2.0 connectors: bit.ly/33XOhHW
- Check out this video to see how I replace the battery connectors: • Replacing Battery Conn...
Tune:
- JESC 48kHz v2.3 (this free ESC firmware makes the drone much smoother and more efficient)
- Betaflight 4.1.1 with RPM filtering turned OFF
- Thanks to FaebuFPV for sharing this tune: bit.ly/2Jkzrme
Flight footage recorded with the PowerPlay DVR:
bit.ly/power-play-dvr

At a full 10g less than my main BabyTooth, that thing is pure AWESOME and really a class of its own. If anyone wants to see the very lazy way I build mine by comparison, here's the build video that will be public when the parts are in stock in about a week. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ai_oqRC-KG0.html I actually call these gemfan props medium weight. Like you said, I believe they could be maybe even half as heavy as it is. The motor size had to be balanced for this prop and the hopeful future props that may come that are lighter.

@TheSmurfPenis69
@TheSmurfPenis69 4 года назад
I did that and it’s such a great flyer. Same as you said- very very acrobatic and super efficient. I actually tried to grind out the batteries and still got 6 minutes flight, on normal cruising about 8 minutes with two 1s 340mah tbs graphene (which are awesome batteries) and around a minute less with the stock batteries (300mah). I get only around 2:30 minutes on the 65 pro 2 build, and it’s much less acrobatic, the only downside is that now it’s much scarier to fly in places where people might pop out of their homes since it’s much less “hurt proof” now..

Your weight focused video was amazing thank you very much ! My TP3 frame is actually being retro fitted at the moment because I went with heavier components and assuredly much less detail than your meticulous build. I started off WRONG with beta FPV motors in 1202 x 5000KV and my Cam is a Run Cam Nano V2 and a fairly heavy VTX from Flywoo the Goku. It rivals the TBS Nano but has a case for a heat sink. I may replace that. I'm going up in motor size to 1404 to achieve a better preforming little Toothpick. I hope $$ conditions work out that I can just do a fresh build, on a new TP3 frame . Oh I have a Crossfire Nano Tx in this build as well , so I;d love a tiny little AxII on it . I notices you didn't mount a capacitor ... I was cool with a heavier toothpick but my weight ratio wasn't preformant with the chosen motors ... Again thank you for the video I appreciated it . These FlyWoo Xing motors look awesome I may not be able to wait for a new TP3 frame and a new AIO Diatone board.

I am running a Primo3 with the new HQ 3x1.5x2 props and they are absolutely buttery. I was less impressed with the 3-blade version, which came as a surprise; I usually prefer a 3-blade prop but these felt like simply too much prop on 1102 motors.

Like others have commented, it would be super useful to have an expert do a build and flight video of a very similar toothpick with more obtainable parts. The closest screws I could find (for USA) was a "Reny Like" screw set, where the nuts were regular nylon, at $28USD for 50 pieces. Also, we could use a motor alternative that's easier to find in stock, like a 1202, 1202.5, or 1203 motor. Thanks for your hard work!
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 4 года назад
You don't have to use all the specialty screws. The frame comes with steel screws, and it will still fly quite nicely that way. These are the motors that I recommend. I'm told they will be back in stock by Monday. If you want to try something else, then go for it. Hopefully I gave you some ideas. ;-)

Much rather drive 5 to 10 min to hang with family and friends to race at the park. Also.... love this size at it will allow for the kid and I to race around the yard without bugging the neighbors. In this video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gL1DxUFjFq8.html) Josh Bardwell shows how to remap resources, including motor resources. You'll need to swap resources for motors 1&3, and motors 2&4. The board orientation is set on the configuration tab in betaflight. Just set roll to 180. Then save, and go back to the setup screen with the 3D model of the quad and make sure it moves the way it should when you move the quad in your hand. Good luck.

Yes you can cut RENY screws to length. The bit you cut off will go flying so be careful. I have not had any problem with crushed threads, but if you are worried about that then you can put a nut on it first. If you then back out the nut, it will clean the threads for you. Have fun!

I’ve got some low kv 1304’s I’ve been looking for a home for, think that a 1s will spin em?

Thank you for sharing this! I am wondering about ESC requirements for such 1s toothpick (with Gemfan 3018). Any problems with standard Whoop FCs rated for 5A/6A? The 1S AIO from FPVCYCLE goes up to 9A. If higher amp ratings are recommended, what alternatives exist (NewBeeDrone HummingBird F4 sounds good from the specs)?

I have used the 5A FCs and it has been OK, but that doesn't mean it will always be safe. When flying, 5A per motor (20A total) is more than enough, but the peak current could be higher for short durations, especially in a crash or when using turtle mode. That is usually when people burn their ESCs. So yes, the FPVCycle FC has a higher current limit and should be more robust in those situations.

@@MrShutterBug Thank you for the quick response. It gives much more FC options for such light-weight toothpick.

Awesome video!!!! Even cooler quad!!!! Ive been flying 5 inch freestyle/racing for about 4 weeks now. Would you recommend this as something i could practice with around the backyard? What im asking is, would this aid me in becoming an all around better pilot for my 5 inch set ups?

The best way to get better is to keep flying and to keep pushing yourself. Whoops and toothpicks have definitely helped me get better because I can get stick time anywhere, and I can take changes without breaking stuff.

awesome build! Im curious if its a bad idea to use 1103 motors instead? I can't buy from FPVcycle sadly since I'm limited to one payment method which isn't on their website

I have not tried all the motor options, but I remember talking to Kabab back when he was doing that. He said the wider stator or the 1202.5 really helped control these larger props. So, I think an 1103 would certainly work, but it might not control quite as well. I'm hoping that we can get some lighter prop options that are designed for press-fit. If we get that, then 1103 will probably be great!

Amazing build ! If i understood correctly, the motors are plugged, there are no solder ?

I removed the plugs and soldered the wires directly to the FC, but you don't have to do that. If flew great before I removed the plugs as well.

Hey man, amazing build. I have 2 questions: where did you get those mini tywraps? And what did you use to tape down your motor wires?
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 3 года назад
Cloth Tape: amzn.to/2GUm5PD Cheap 2mm zip ties: amzn.to/3bSgBAu Better and lighter 1.8mm zip ties (but only in large quantity): bit.ly/2DVSsfF
