BULB PLANTING - ELEPHANT EAR
Right now is the perfect time to plant bulbs! If you are new to bulb planting, like I was, you will find that planting bulbs, particularly Elephant Ears and growing a tropical plants in containers is really easy! In this video I am going to show you how to plant and how to grow elephant ears. I am doing backyard gardening, but this can work for growing tropical plants at home. Elephant Ears, also called alocasia and colocasia grow from bulbs, which are easy to find and are easy potted plants. @@Kaliiscute i think going to be a WHILE. i planted mine almost a month ago and still nothing! not even anything peeking up from the soil! I took one out because i was unsure of what was going on, and now im water propagating one bulb just to make sure. If you feel the same, pull one up and put it in a little bit of water and watch it closely for roots, then replant. Also look up care and maintenance for them on here.

Hi! Just an FYI. I ordered my elephant ear corms from Amazon and received tiny little ones that will probably take eons to grow. To my surprise, I was at Walmart and they had several huge BINS of elephant ear bulbs, each weight about THREE pounds each at $9.95 each. They were huge. I've planted them and will give them plenty of time to sprout. Wish me luck.

I got mine at Kroger. They have 2 bulbs for 3$. I got one corm as big as an 🌽 and one the size of a small dahlia… idk what to do with them so it’s not a huge financial loss

i bought some tarro root (bulbs) from the asian market and plopped them in some soil like a month ago and they are already full on plants. It was under $1 for 6 bulbs. Thanks for the tip about a big pot.. I I think mine are in too small of pots so maybe I'll transplant so they'll keep growing for the rest of the season!

Hahaha I actually planted mine upside down and after a week I was like mmm weird no growth we’ll come to find out it was growing but upside down lol... it was dying but hopefully I saved it by flipping it right side up.. this video was helpful thankful!

First time elephant ear bulbs planters. Used potting soil in plastic planters. Took 4-5 weeks for them to start but they took over. We live in Missouri but it looks like we live in Tahiti. I am currently using utube to learn how to separate them in the fall. It looks pretty easy. I am going to plant a few in the ground to see how they do. For decades we have pinched off some baby spider plants from the main plant and put them in water to root. We planted them in the ground and they did great. You can also dig them up for inside use. Spray for bugs first.

I normally plant daffodils, tulips, alliums, and crocus in the fall. I have some dahlias but I tend to use seeds in the spring! I look forward to seeing your elephant ears!

Thanks for your video, love the simplicity and yes which is the top lol! I love elephant ears and I as well add more in the pot with a dash of color. I think the last plant you showed is perfect! You have the green and slight touch of purple 🌿 My passion is Dahlias which I enter in the county fair (Dutches County Fair in Rhinebeck NYS) each year and compete against my brother who is the king of Dahlias lol! I like to plant Dahlias, gladiolus, lilies, peonies and Amaryllis. But this fall I planted many tulips and a few daffodils. My yard looks amazing and I am loving bulbs, now more than ever!

I have tried to plant bulbs before - all sorts in the ground and in pots and I've always killed them all. The only ones that have survived were already "native" in my garden i.e. already there before we moved in! I have English bluebells, crocuses, daffodils, tulips, wild garlic.

I do tulip bulbs and same as you say for summer I want to see the plants already. I'm going to start with bulbs next year for a few plants because the cost can be insane. I'm in Philly and home depot and lowes has elephant ears every year that I've purchased many times at an inexpensive price. Also they carry elephant ear bulbs.

We live in Mo and have planted two bulbs in plastic containers. Just used potting soil and waited for them to start growing. This took about 4 weeks until one day noticed

I’m growing cannabis and I’m growing caladiums and I’m growing Gladiolas and I’m growing Elephant ears. I love them all but I’m really not knocked out about having to dig them up every fall. It is a lot of extra work. Although the last year or two I have left my Cannas in the ground with no problem as I live in zone eight

My God mother just sent me 3 elephant ear bulbs last night and I could hardly sleep because I knew I would be planting them this morning 😂 lol. I'm starting indoor with grow lights so I'm hoping these do well. And like you the bulbs is something I have never planted before. Come to think of it I probably should have done a video on my own channel when I done it 🤔 but I was just way too excited to get these going! Lol I'll definitely be doing update videos though! How are yours doing now? Did the bulbs start growing pretty quickly?

Hi Rosetta, I enjoyed your video... question, I went to the website, that you said on your video, Diddropdone.com.. and they are not retailers at all. Website only gives information for bulbs. Is there another website in that package where i can purchase future bulbs.

Plant on side if not sure. The tuber/bulb will find the almighty light. Hope I helped.

Does your bulb have any growth coming out? If it does, they will generally grow "up" so you can see which way to plant it. I imagine they will reach for the warmth and the light, not matter what, so if you can't figure it out, don't stress. :)

Maybe you could have lined the in side of the pot with plastic bag around the sides. Would help retain moisture in a terracotta pot.

I wanna grow these so bad. I live in southern AZ so I think I still technically am in the growing season since our late summer early fall is still as hot and sunny as most zones’ springs and summers. Anyone else from AZ have experience growing in the later months?

Walmart has these 2 bulbs a bag for $10. They also have other varieties there. Yeah I was a little pissed after spending $18.99 a piece on white lava bulbs, and mojito bulbs at the nursery, and a week later I found the mojitos at walmart 2 for $10.😒 They didn't have the white lava, but Lowe's did for $16.99!😠 It's whatever, I got what I wanted. I did find the mammoth bulbs for $12.98 at Lowe's, and my nursery was selling "giant" bulbs for 18.99 also, so I got a deal on those. Still spent $100.00 on bulbs, but I should have some cuties soon! 🌱🍃 and I'll get more as they continue to grow, next year I have 2 more varieties I want to get, these being 1 of them, and my collection should be satisfied. You should really start growing more bulbs, they are awesome. Dahlias, Gladiolus, Caladiums there are so many plants that you can grow from bulbs

emma delatorre it’s soooo hard to wait! That’s the worst part. It depends on how much warmth/light yours is getting. Mine is outside and just started to push out of the soil. It’s been 3-4 weeks.

They carry them at most nurseries, big box stores, garden centers, etc. You can find them easier in winter, and early spring. Most people plant them outside and that is the ideal time to plant. You might be able to find bulbs online in later summer, early fall. I haven't looked.

Your elephant ear will not grow at its full capacity if you have other vine plants in there

It would be best if you get a plastic pot about two sizes bigger than your terracotta pot that has drainage at the bottom but also has about a 2in water saver at the bottom also is good just to plant your elephant ear in the ground after the second season and it will get really big
