Either go to the auctions yourself or find a buyer to do it for you! Today buying the right cars is a full-time job!
@kjsalter1

100% agree. I bought cars online for almost 12 months in 2021-2022. I decided to start going to auctions in person because the quality of the cars was not accurately described by the CR reports. Since going to auctions physically over the past 5-6 months, my average repair/recon expense per vehicle has dropped almost 70%. It is more time consuming but the quality of vehicles I am able to purchase because I can evaluate in person has drastically improved, in turn, improving our monthly sales volume. Take the time and go in person, it will not take long to see the fruits of your labor.

@@MrMalort absolutely incorrect. The $100-$200 he pays to a buyer that can physically inspect the vehicle before purchasing will save him $500-$1000 if not more. Respectfully, having a sales person and office staff to handle day to day transactions, he has no excuse to not go himself. Online is easier and convenient, in person will save/make him more money in the long run.

23yrs in the business and your ahead of the curve. You might want to go back to that last intersection and pick up a few more things before going any further down that road. You should have learned this stuff your first couple years in the industry. Heck I could have told you, you can't trust those auction houses back in 1995 when I stopped playing with them. I'm happy to be on this side of that curve, with my money still in my pocket. Chalk it up to education.

I was a whole used car buyer for a dealership in 21 and 22 and I solely did in person inspections before making offers. You gotta be in the car right to try to make money on it but also, if there are parts back orders that costs you money to try to repair because now it’s depreciating while you’re trying to figure out what to do. The most money you’ll make on a vehicle is in the first two weeks after getting it, so you need to recon ASAP. The more to fix, the more you put yourself at the mercy of the parts market.

Everyone on the internet: Go in person to inspect the cars you're interested in buying. If you have to buy one sight unseen expect the worst and accept the risk. You: Going in person is not cool, it's old fashioned, you're out of the loop if you do it... You must've been lucky because you buy the cars at dealer only auctions. Anyone can learn pretty fast that going to the auction is a must if you don't want nasty surprises, and if you can't go yourself the auctio s tend to offer someone that inspects the car for you for about $100 a piece.

Bullet holes in a car are not "crazy" at all. I have a good bullet hole guy in town that fixes those. Very very common on auction cars and repos. I'm assuming most of your experience is simply as a car salesman, not an operator. Green light refers to mechanical issues only and has nothing to do with cosmetics. The auction has no obligation to make CRs 100% accurate. That's why you do the extra work to go to the auction and check the cars yourself, rather than trying to accomplish your entire inventory process sitting at your computer.

I own a car dealership, there is so much misinformation on these videos. If you went to the auction to check those cars in person you wouldn't have done so badly on them. You can't trust CR or auction photos. I have seen many new dealers not able to stay in business who try to follow the pure online buying strategy. I have one of the most efficient inventory processes in the country with data to back it up. My dealership is probably 15 miles from you. I have purchased over 5000 vehicles in the last five years alone at auction. I have sold 80+ cars per month for over a decade. I don't have to travel for auctions, I buy local. My mechanics and I physically check the vehicles ourselves. There is so much you're missing when you're only buying online. You can't touch, smell, drive, and inspect all aspects online. Because I buy at a local auction, my cars are my lot the next morning. Time is everything in this business Especially since i know you have to be operating with a floorplan. I learned on a 2M floorplan, its a great way to get more efficent But i now pay cash for all our inventory. My time to line is 2 days. My average age of inventory is 15 days

In Canada actual mileage is recorded at a provincial level so we see out of province vehicles for sale. Why, because it allows them to roll back odometers. They can switch pods from wrecked vehicles or tinker with them in other ways. 😮I once called for information on an out of province truck to the other provincial entity and they refused to give me any information. Protectionism between government and dealers?? It’s supposed to be public knowledge the odometer reading 😮

It’s really beat up for a 2019. It’s sad to see however it just shows how so many people just destroy their vehicles. It’s probably never had an oil change.

Chevy dude . Just a tip , you probably know this already . But some Mazdas have headlight dryers at the back at the part where you unscrew the bulbs . This car probably sat in the weather for long and the headlight dryers are filled with water .

Hum…so buying a car on line is staying ahead of the curve ? It’s stupid…I would never do that… you wasted more time and money than simply going to,the auction….if you have to sink money into every car you buy on line you will be out of business. Just saying …..

Am I used car buyer at a dealership. I avoid the auction as much as possible. I work with a trusted wholesaler and buy off the private market. It’s more than a full time job!

As someone who has 45 years of experience in the auto retail and wholesale business you just made a very good case for NOT buying online or believing the condition reports. It is inconvenient, but there is notsubstitute for being at the auction in person. If you believe an auction report you will be sorry much of the time.

Buyer beware. Goes for all of us. Things have taken a huge turn for the worse in the auto industry. And politicians are backing up these practices.

So you all need to get together and form a class action group and put the auction out of business and put the NAA in some financial jeopardy for endorsing these YaHoos. The NAA is only of value if they enforce the standards.

Usually those cars are deemed as "Vandalized" most time they are written off by the insurance "salvage title" Someone must of fixed the things they could and traded the suv in.

Do you think we could get a name, perhaps? No since saying "don't buy from here" when we have no idea where "here" is.
