HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

I recommend doing it if it's something you're interested in man. Even just a hobby or a once awhile thing there's no better time than now. Also if your wife is pushing you to do it she knows enough that you'll be good and enjoy it. Plus it could be extra $$ for you if you need it. But honestly my advice don't put off your desires or keep saying one day because you might not get the opportunity to fulfill them. Trust me man I know firsthand there's so many things like this and machining I'd love to do but I'll never get the opportunity due too a severe injury leaving me paralyzed with little arm movement. So if you have the opportunity don't miss it you never know what could happen and hopefully never does.

@@brittangolden3105 your right about that lol, just ran the numbers on it your looking at roughly 7,500 casings. That would be worth $2,176.20 us in case form. Melted and polished all 186 lbs would be $360.84 us. Dirty brass would be in case form scrap $55.80.

It's too hard to just have one favorite movie from my childhood. I mean you have the original star wars trilogy, Indiana Jones, the goonies and back to the future. I could go on but I think these would be my all time favorites. Not sure if you made this or not but you should make the fertility idol from raider of the lost ark. That would be cool to see.

Question for you. If brass is overheated and zinc oxide is formed, does that effect the composition of the brass? Does it require adding zinc the next time you cast with the remaining brass? I casted some bells, my first bell looked much like brass should, but the second bell looked more copperish. I've been searching for a resource of information regarding brass casting. Thanks for your time. Loved the ammo shell melting video!

Yes absolutely it changes it, the zinc content is lower. How much by depends on how you cooked it
@alanpecherer5705
@alanpecherer5705 2 года назад
Yes, you'll definitely cook off some zinc. Potentially a fair amount since the melting point of zinc is so much lower than copper. All the zinc that converts into the white oxide isn't available as the raw metal any more.
