Bulls vs Knicks Rivalry Part 2: The Battle Rages On (1994 & 1996 Playoffs)

Part 2 is here, this one is concentrated on 1994 EC semifinals (Bulls without Jordan) and 1996 EC semifinals.
During the 1994 series (Game 3), crazy fight took place in the middle of a game. English and Harper squared off on the court and eventually ended up in the stands. David Stern was in attendance at the game and saw the entire thing take place. Kukoc won Game 3 at the buzzer, Scottie was fuming on the bench because Phil draw a play for Toni.
There's also a phantom foul call on Pippen in pivotal Game 5 and Pippen killing Ewing in Game 6.
Knicks finally won the series against Chicago in Game 7, but with Jordan back in 1996, Bulls won it again easily (4-1).
Towards the end of Game 5 of their 1996 playoff series, Chicago was leading comfortably and well on their way to a 4-1 series win. So after sinking a three-pointer, MJ turned to Spike Lee and waved goodbye. After the game, Jordan said, "He can have a safe flight home," when Craig Sager asked him about Spike. It was the last time Jordan would square off against the Knicks in the playoffs.
The two franchises haven't met in the playoffs since.

Man, you can feel that home court advantage to the core for '92-'93-'94 with these two teams. The crowds are so integral in heightening the already hyper-emotional confrontations. Pumped just watching this echo of the event somehow resonating at 360p and 25 years later.

As terrible as the Hue Hollins call was, the Bulls lost in 1994 because they blew leads early on in Games 1 and 2. I don't pin that loss on Hue Hollins. Back then in the 80's and 90's, you had indivisual superstars on teams going against ones on other teams where they and their teammates would compete to the death to get to the finals, or to win a championship. These days, you have superstars leaving to join other superstars on other teams. Whether it be Lebron leaving because of how Cleveland's front office not being able to get good players to join him, or recently Durant leaving because... he wanted to "grow" as a player. You could say that both of these superstar players left because they wanted to take an easy road out, but at least Lebron had an excuse of sorts. Durant on the other hand left for the team that he not only had a 3-1 series lead on, but also won 73 games in the regular season. Not to mention Durant shot 10-31 in game 6 of that series, which more or less screwed OKC out of getting to the finals. It makes Durant and Lebron look like cowards and not grown men by going to super teams, but as history showed, even super teams are beatable, mostly due to chemistry problems or egos getting in the way of more important things, such as winning championships.

I grew up watching this rivalry. It was like watching a boxing match, two heavyweights slugging it out. I loved it!!! This may be the closest the NBA has come to "street-ball" that I've seen in a playoff series. The Bulls/Pistons was close though. There just aren't many players, games, teams or role models like this anymore. This was the REAL NBA, in my opinion. When Jordan finally retired, I lost all interest in the NBA. I still love NCAA basketball, but even the shadiness and corruption of $$$$$ is oozing into that sport as well. These were the glory days....I miss the 90's, for MANY reasons.

He wasn't in his first 3 to 44 years. Detroit had his heart. By his 6th yr he had gotten much better. Phil started trusting him to run the offense, then he took off.

It's really a shame the Knicks management never surrounded Ewing with star power while he was still in his prime. It wasn't until the late 90's that they decided to bring in Houston, LJ, Spreewell to complement Ewing. By then, he was injury-riddled and way past his prime (solid but not the all-NBA type player he used to be).

btw... as a Pistons fan, 94 was the one season I wanted to see the Pippen led Bulls make it to the finals. I was rooting for Scottie even though I bleed Pistons Red White and Blue. Without Michael, it would have been great to see him lead a team to title...

I called Ewing a winner because he at least competed HARD and never backed down. He gave it his ALL. You not a REAL loser if you go out like that. I mean only the GOATS were able to beat him (Jordan and Hakeem)! And Ewing took them both to 7 games! He didn't change teams or anything. That's as real as it gets. He doesn't have to hold his head down for anyone!

Henry Hill Pistons 3 Bulls 1. To be presist. Pistons and Celtics are the only teams that won more series than the bulls when Jordan was part of the team. In Jordan defence the first series during 88' Playoff Chicago wasnt a very good team at all. Pippen was a rookie that year just to give you an idea. And Detroit was in my opinion the best team in the league and they deserve to win the championship that year against LA. in 6 games (they end up loseing in 7)

so Pippen walking over Ewing was because Oakley did the same thing back in 1994, Pip was just doing how he was treated. Good rivalries and the Knicks were so talented back then. Now... I don't see much future with Melo, he needs to play smarter and carry his team on his shoulders. See what Mike did, he doesn't have to always be the go to guy, he trusted his teammates and is willing to take the blame if Kurr was to miss the shots.
@SilentRunner79
@SilentRunner79 8 лет назад
+Kevin Wang that's exactly the problem in Knicks nowadays as Phil Jackson has pointed out in the past. Melo does not have guys he can trust around him like MJ used to have. Melo does the best he can but 1 player can not make a difference and lead a team to the finals.
