he can guard all five positions...he would get offensive rebounds and get his teams second chance points...he single handedly won 2 games for Chicago in the 1996 Finals
I remember watching this game live and Im sad to say I didn't get to appreciate Rodman as much as I do today. He was definitely a legend in his own right
You're not the only person to feel this way. Now that we we're not directly affected by it anymore,( my Lakers weren't faring too well at this time) we can see more clearly.
I consider myself lucky to have grown up in the 90s. My generation was the last one to see real sports. Basketball was a man’s sport. Football was still rough. Hockey was at its absolute best. We were truly spoiled.
I love how when Rodman gets a call in his favor he claps and also taps the opponents on the behind. We hated Rodman when he was with the Pistons. When he was a Bull, we embraced his antics.
he had a sense he was doing wrong. him and Jordon connected in the 1991 games. he laid off the dirty plays for a while.... but then again he was a lot of innocent then haha
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. Because I'm Japanese-American, I HATE the Boston Celtics, Lakers, Phoenix and Utah! If Larry Bird and Dan Majerle were Sonics or Blazers, I would LOVE them! Because they were Celtics and Suns, I HATED them! Just like, if I were an Astros fan, born in Houston, or Caucasian, I would love Alex Bregman. Because I'm Japanese-American, I HATE Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel and AJ Hinch and Justin Verlander!
Kemp, Payton, Brickowski....Rodman owned space in all their heads throughout this series. The mind games Dennis played in this series are some of the greatest examples you will see in sports, he didnt sit there and trash talk relentlessly like a KG, he pretty much always let his play speak for him. sure its a past era with a different rule set but, this was a master at work in HIS era, he doesnt have crazy stats outside of rebounding because he did the dirty work that doesnt show up on a stat sheet. The guy was barely bigger than jordan yet could out redbound, out hustle, out think and defend any player. theres countless examples from shaq to this series where rodman camps in players minds and forces them so far off their game they become a hazard to their own team. the on and off court antics were a bit much for some but, a well deserved hall of famer and one of the truly underrated guys to play the game.
He & the pistons brutalized Pippen and Jordan. They took a pounding. Jordan for 7 years and pippen for 4 before they made it to the first Finals. It toughened them up for the time when they would be on top. Rodman left scars on alot of players.
Man Rodman was Chicago’s ultimate role player of ALL TIME!! He got out there and worked his magic so good, you could only hate or love the man and in Chicago, WE DEFINITELY LOVED HAVING HIM ON OUR SIDE!! Look at how HYPE he got the fans of Chicago, man.😄 He definitely ranks as one of the best bulls EVER for all his bullshit on the court.💯
AngryTom Tom haha!! You have a point! You see the cold as balls Kevin hart episode w Rodman? Check it out, he talks about his experience a bit in North Korea
but there is other side - players from that days would be fouled-out in first 5 minutes of the game, every game, if they played like they did in the past
Y'all are dumb. The only players that wouldn't do well in this version of the NBA are the Terrance Ferguson, Shawn Livingston, Derrick Jones Jr. type guys. Too lanky to survive long. Curry's spiritual predecessor, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf played in this era and did just fine. KD would be crying in locker room lol Hell if Curry played back then, maybe the league would have been forced forward in its evolution a little bit and we wouldn't have had to tolerate a few extra years of rubbish ball.
So glad to have found this compilation on RU-vid, as the antics between Rodman and Brickowski were a highlight of that series for me. Rodman was a defensive & rebounding genius.
The more that series went on, you knew that Dennis Rodman was living rent-free in Frank Brickowski's head, and he let him know it constantly. Brickowski just did the wrong thing in blowing his stack and responding, but he knew he couldn't out-play Rodman, and that Rodman could outlast him fitness-wise, and Frank was thrown so far off his game, because he couldn't get the Worm out of his ear!
Shit, kemp flat out embarrassed rodman sitting on his head after that nasty baseline spin haha legendary dunk, still have the front page pic of it. Too bad brickowski was just not on that level
I dont think he does. He can see the replays, Rodman is a great actor, and he is not..if he became a great actor too he could easily have had Rodman ejected every game. It's just a shame the refs couldn't access video reviews back then.
Rodman would be so far in LeBron's jockstrap that Dennis would be whispering in LeBron's ear going. I've got your balls in my back pocket you're welcome to come get them after the game.
Everyone knows Rodman was an unbelievable rebounder and defender but he doesn't get enough credit for his basketball IQ. The guy is a basketball genius. He would take players completely out of the game with his antics. We only see the major things, but can you imagine the shit he would say or do to certain players that we couldn't see or hear? People back then thought he was crazy but the man was 100% in control of his emotions on the court. Just amazing.
You could tell the announcers were so biased against Rodman, espeically at 19:55. Rodman achieved greatness even though everyone in the mainstream NBA (league management, refs, announcers, sports media) were rooting against him because he wouldn't conform to their ideal image. What a legend.
And players had exceptional skills automatic moves that were so efficient sort of like klay and steph 3 pointers they played like they been playing since kids
Judah you're right man! I suppose After the "war" between Detroit and pacers (2005 artest You Remember?) The NBA change all the system...all the rules because that ever was so tragic and mine the imagine of the NBA in the rest of the world! I'm italian and i Remember that was a creepy pages of basketball sport...
Thats the truth too, jordans worst series ever i think, and payton only got to guard em for last 3 games i think, first 3 he wasnt 100 percent according to karl
Watched the entire series live and have all the games on VHS (lol)... This was a masterpiece of someone getting into a player's head. Frank got tossed so many times. Lol. Dennis too lol.
rodman is probably the goat of basketball as a support player he is overlooked because hes not shooting and scoring the most but hes assisting the team in almost every single play against the toughest guys to guard
Funny thing is he never acted tough. All smiles and head shakes. But somehow he got in your head and if you fell for it he had the strength and body to back it up if you fought back.
He was a world class flopper. I’m a Pistons fan. Loved the bad boys. Rodman was rarely a “tough dude”. He was an epic flopper and got under people’s skin.
Rodman: Walking with his family in piece, having ice cream at the mall. Brickowski: Eats Rodmans family. Announcer: Look at Rodman just leading with the family in the front, showing them off to every predator out there. Dennis really needs to be more careful!
Obviously I am not breaking any news, but the Rodman signing was just brilliant. I don't believe there has ever been a team assembled that could beat that Bulls team in a best of 7.
+RockSteady Frankly the attention is on Rodman because they already know Jordan and Pippen can score at will. Rodman was the backbone of the Chicago defence which is why he was targeted by other teams a lot. They felt their best bet was to find a way to deal with Rodman's rebounding. Rebounds make plays. Without Rodmans rebounding ability Jordan and Pippen have fewer opportunities on offence to begin with.
Rodman did the most he could, with what he had. He gave 100% effort. And in this series he completely owned the mind of Frank Brickowski. And partially Shawn Kemp's as well.
@bee boo Rodman wouldn't be shit without the BAD BOYS PISTONS or the CHICAGO BULL either, what is your point. ( BBALL is a team sport - remember) Nobody would be anything alone.
D-Rod is Hilarious. He has shown thattime and time again, he ultimately knows how to use psychological warfare, to his advantage, and can totally get his opponent, off his game. Rodman did a psychological number on Brickowski. 😂.
Rodman was a smart player, he is one of the best players of all time. I love his aggressive techniques, he wasn’t afraid of anyone. I would love to have him on my side any day!
