The longer I done Flyfishing for trout, the more I appreciate the importance of using the proper float/indicator. The brits seem to do more stillwater fishing than we do. These Fario floats seem perfect and easy to use.

Used to make my own from yarn and old plastic cotton bud tube. Tie the egg yarn on wit thread and bit of super glue/ varnish. Brush the yarn out and leader goes through tube then wedge cocktail stick in. Worked just as well if not better than the foam bungs.

Mate! You really do listen to your audience. Good on ya :D Been waiting for this all week. I knew it'd come soon. And on point as always! Keep sharing! For every video you make we catch more fish! :D PS. That sliding indicator looks wicked! I'll most likely be using some of the small to medium ones of those for midge rigs like you've shown. So far I havent liked the ones my mates bought from the shops but this one is perfect for finding the fish with my midge nymphs. Less the hassle of having to spend 15 mins on changing the position of the indicator. Perfect! Keep sharing mate! Cheers again!

Thanks for the video - great detail as per usual. I would use the static bung as an attractor with an Apps 18" t0 3' under it and retrieve with fast figure of 8 retrieve so that the bung bobbles along the surface to attract the trout to see what all the fuss is about and then they see the apps and attack it and get hooked.

I'm relatively new to fly fishing but have been going regularly and it's my new favourite hobby. I started about 5 years ago and stopped but have picked it up again a couple of months ago and so far out of 4 or 5 trips, I'm yet to blank which is hopeful! Went to garn fishery the other day and it was really hard going, everyone was using bungs and catching loads and I didn't have any or know how to use them! I stood in 45mph winds getting hammered by rain for 6+ Hours, and unfortunately my waterproofs weren't waterproof enough and I got freezing cold and soaked! Luckily I caught one fish but it wasn't big. This video has helped loads so hopefully I can give bungs a go in the future if I can get my hands on some! I have since ordered some proper waterproofs Haha. Great video Rhys heres to hoping I can win those bungs so I can put them to good use!

Rhys, Thank you. I do enjoy your videos. Last summer, I ordered some of the Fario fixed Bungs and do like them. I would like to see them make a "Quick Release" style bung which "releases" when a fish is hooked and then slides freely on the leader. This prevents the situation of the Bung getting caught in the rod tip when stripping in or reeling in line when bringing the fish to the net when fishing deeper than 10" - 12', even when using a 10' long rod. These "Quick Release" style indicators are very popular with Stillwater fly fishers in the US and Canada. Thanks from Portland, Oregon!

Hi Rhys, Been enjoying your vids - it's refreshing to see modern kit and innovative methods, keep it up. I've been fishing the bung for a while now using a simple spun deer hair blob as a bung so keen to try the Fario bungs. My question is your thoughts on whether you can tie the bung to the upper tag end of the dropper and if there's any value in lengthening the dropper by just a couple of inches to keep a little more line away from the fish?
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 года назад
interesting thought about the tag end. I'd personally recommend tying it to the dropper end, simply because the direction of the dropper line is such that it will absorb a take on your bung better than if it were tied on the tag end (as the tag end effectively sits against the direction and moment to which the fish will take)

You could fish that static bung as a slider if you rig it up correctly. I’m new to fly fishing but am match fishing from the beach for over 20 years. We fish slider rigs with 3 hooks on surf beaches for bass and flounder and you could set the bung up with the same principles so long as they come under fips guidelines.

Rhys, how do you reuse this bung? The re-threading of new fluorocarbon tippet through the bung? Please..
@alancoles1414
@alancoles1414 3 года назад
Thanks for the reply Rhys, one further thought is that, if your bung is a fly of sorts, then the impact in the way the line/dropper lies would be dependent on which fly was taken by the fish.
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 года назад
Agreed. In 90% of cases i've found the fish will take the bung across either at 90 degree angle from your position or 180 degrees (facing your direction). Rarely will a fish take the bung facing the same direction as you as naturally the leader/fly line will be in the way as it were. There are some bungs out there tied with the sole intention of being fish catching bungs (a heavy dressed with foam blob as an example) and on their day they can give that slight edge!

Hi Rhys, thanks for the informative video! Two questions: would you keep the same width leader between the bung and nymph even if it was 10ft+? how do you attach the non-tapered leader to the fly line loop? Do you just clinch it or do you create a loop for loop-to-loop?
