Every video I make, I always have some hindsight. And the comments and me just thinking about some of these things, I thought I would list my changes I would make to this video in hindsight. 1. Using DB to compare the playstyles: While I was too focused on the damage spread on it, RE players were not happy with it because the value of their rotation to hit 3 orbs. I wasn't talking that much about the rotation itself, as I was mostly making this to talk about wiffing your major skills. And while RE still has the ability to recover from 1 or 2 wiffed skills, this angered the RE bros. I'll give my overall thoughts on the DBs in the future, but it is 100% my fault for using DB as the comparison when it comes to wiffing skills when it is a rare outlier of consistent that needs to build meter. 2. Burst Playstyle : I didn't really go over that burst playstyle has varied types, like long burst liike Igniter and short cycles like Eso WD and basically constant uptime like Surge. And also that the line can be blurred a little with NE SE as it is very short cycled and I understand why people think it can be in either category, but just like the previous point, I was very focused on uptime and damage spread. This is something I should had put more thought into. 3. Reclear Content : If the damage is really high, it is true that burst classes can get cucked out of their damage window either by a bunch of consistent pushing mechs while you build, or more often in my experience with my static, the burst that stimmied up and bursted frame 1 cucks the person who didn't stimmy om. I think those are the three major points that would change if I could. But as a mmo content creator, I'm sure I'll make a similar video sometime in the video where I can have a new set of hindsight changes but it will have these fixes at least.

I play both blade's engravings since the launch of the game in EU and I wouldn't say one is more difficult than the other, difficulty resides in different factors for both engraving and one might be better at playing one engraving or the other. The real difference for me is that, with RE, you get to hit your ceiling if you are very good at it. With surge, a big part of the factors that may allow you to hit your ceiling aren't into your own hands (crit rate on surge, boss moving out of your stationnary stacking spells (that you need to use because the CDs are low anyways so if you hold them you're wasting time, if you use them the boss might randomly jump out of it), boss phasing before you even reach 60 stacks in overgeared contents (like brel g3)...). This simple difference makes surge way more frustrating to play in my opinion, but not harder. I like when I feel like my game knowledge and skill allow me to hit the ceiling of a class, so I mainly go by RE blitzless now and I am having a lot of fun with it. I might grab surge back for Thaemine and Echidna as the engraving looks kind of fun on these raids tho. But yeah, surge might have a higher ceiling but, since a part of the reasons you might reach it aren't into your own hands, it feels harder without actually being harder. :]

I'm really looking forward to really diving into my DB. It's a class that I wish I would had took more seriously earlier as I'm trying to diversify my roster, as I feel they're perhaps a bit too samey in the even longer run. I'm kind of hoping I like surge more due to damage gem money saved ngl.

THIS ^^ I play both builds too and I get so frustrated playing surge due to the stationary stacking spells. I'm using freevo's build not because I'm trying to chase ceiling but I feel like the CD lines up better for that kitting vs the usual blitzless build too

7:24 this is the life of EO. 20 second burst, 50 second down time ... and not a single support on the planet can consistently line up burst to your 20 second hype rotation. Edit: Made a Surge blade to prove a point with the express pass. Personally, the core of the build is easy. Implementing that core within a raid requires raid knowledge. It's not unlike EO in that way. However, it's nowhere near as punishing as other classes. Sure, if you miss a Surge you're missing 300-500 mil dmg that you get full blade arts back for and can get another surge in 9-12 seconds. But say, on other builds like EO if you mess up your H3 window you're missing out on 1.4-1.7 billion dmg with a forced 50-second downtime that cannot be recovered. It's definitely a different kind of difficulty. Both have their issues.

I switchted my blade from surge to re recently and dont regret it a single bit, I hated the dependency on crit synergies bc despite having like 70% crit rate (I even have precise with highest roll on bracelet) every ability but my surges would crit, out of 10 surges maybe 3 would crit and that let my depression grow bigger and bigger till I decided to swap to re, one of the biggest downsides of surge imo is that you cant hold your 60 stacks so if you doing reclear content and rushing through the gates if youre unlucky/too slow you have your 60 stacks and want to surge but the boss says nope and does a mech/gets dr and that pissed me off, i find re to be much easier to play, yes you have to chase the back of the boss but except for maybe kayangel thats not a big problem especially when youre playing dark axel

Yeah, I just did my first Kaya and Akkan on RE this week and man. Dark axel feels like cheating sometimes. Enjoying it so far. Gonna play RE for awhile then switch to surge and try that out. I made an 1800 spec interchangable build off earring for this.

is surge really a burst class though? given how often you surge it looks like consistent dps with skewed damage distribution

Just for information at 5:09 BT definitely doesnt profit from there beeing no Boss on the Screen and in some cases not even from mid to long DR time. BT is basicly a State you enter for like 1min 30sec and after you have to rebuild the next state for like 5-6 sec So no Boss beeing on the screen is making you lose what you already worked for and puts you at a disadvange even towards other Spec classes since you technically used your igniter just the let it run out.

Ah yeah, thanks. I wasn't sure if it was pred where there was a time where you couldn't get meter. But logically thinking in hind sight, I should had remembered that's why the timer on pred exist, because its instead of rebuilding.

Just some nitpick things I would say atro has way more than 50% on constant dps. Most constant dps still has 3-4 skills that make up ~70%+ of their dps which they can fit into an atro cycle. Saying burst is good on hw is kinda misleading. It really depends on the raid, how stationary the boss is and how often it phases. Some burst classes can literally do z dps if constant dps classes such as pred/NE push the bosses from mech to mech and allow for no opportunity to burst.

0:37 Crazy how gassed up people make Predator out to be, but it's really not the best performer in Ivory. Not even close. That doesn't mean it's bad, but it's amusing because a lot of people think it's super high dps. I think the craziest one near the top is grav training. Shock is a little... I'm gonna do it!... shocking to see so far up there, but g4 does seem to leave big gaps for back attacking burst. And for the difficulty comparison, it really boils down to: consistent don't stop vs burst don't miss. With little nuances added to each class depending on their individual niche playstyle. My personal take on which should have a higher ceiling is I believe consistent should, but depending on the conditionals, it should be higher or lower. I could go further into it, but I don't wanna leave AS big of a wall of text.

Yeah I was surprised to see GT + Shock that high as well. We can expect mains for popular/hyped classes to score worse and niche classes better, according to the kinds of players they attract. But not to this degree, I'm curious to see more data

You know, for some reason, everyone sleeps on Shock because it's so slow ... but per the religious text and playing with some good shock players. They have a 700 mil dmg rotation every like 15 seconds ish. That's average, not if everything crits. It is a SUPER strong build and from what it shows, easy to pull off and very consistent performing ... even though the community perception of it is the exact opposite.

@@saikame5833 I main Tai, but I do find myself wondering/wanting to try shock at times. I never thought it was horrible, but I hear that it's kind of clunky. Fas usually says, "good damage, but clunky," but for whatever reason, no one seems to care? My thoughts would be I'd use Tai for learning, and shock would be for reclear. But I'm still pushing ilvl so I can't really afford to experiment much. New gems, new accessories? Nah. Just not worth it for a long time.

Also surge isn’t burst it just feels that way cause the number is high it’s more consistent just not swift kinda consistent but the rotation is so fast you can’t really consider it burst

Yeah I didn't cover the variety of different types of burst and consistent classes. I still think surge is burst based on damage dist and very dependent on a single skill. But I do think surge is pretty unique as a burst to not be held back by cooldowns due to Death Trance. Which really helps push its ceiling imo. So I get where you're coming from when talking playstyle.

I'd say it's burst because the dps is dependent on a burst skill: surge. I get where you're coming from though and I see that it plays like a consistent, but the dps isn't consistent. ...Also I just read Jukwol's comment and it's basically the same as mine... Oh well! Engagement for the algorithm I guess.

Imo NE Souleater is a burst and nost a consistent class. Your most dmg are the pink skins ther that leathal spining.

Hot take. The game shouldn't focus the balance around parse data and hard mode. The bulk of the player base shouldn't suffer because of how premades and top end groups can perform.

@@alwar8563 I disagree. Why would you balance something around let's say the top 0.5% of players? That'd be like adjusting the price of food for the top 0.5% of earners. You're going to have a lot of angry (and starving in that example) people on your hands. It should matter for everyone. And honestly, I would go so far to say that it matters LESS for those people because they'll top end players will be trivializing everything anyway. However, if you meant it only matters TO the top end players who want the ego boost? Then yeah, totally agree.

Being a soulfist main and empress as first dps alt,there's no way arcana is harder than soulfist and I'm not even talking about crazy ass rotations. The fact that you have to time your hype with dominiom proc and you have to adjust your hype window each time you go with a different team is a lot to think about. Way harder than remember what each card does

I don't play either at a higher level (I stopped playing my SF when she was around 1415 almost 2 years ago now) so I'm not disputing anything. But, is it even worth it to play a... well, let's call it semi-optimal EO SF than a semi-optimal arcana? Both cognitively and mechanically.

As EO player(switched from Igniter half year ago) i would agree that SF is hard to play, very punishing if you misplay your hype and as effect Zdps. Never played Arcana so this is only subjective opinion.

Also a sf main I definitely agree with this the fact you can't plan out how to and when to go into each hype makes things so much harder because every raid is different for us there is no consistency when your hype is on point you do stupid amounts of damage but if you mess up one hype rotation you kinda do zdps the rest of the raid and that's fairly easy to do if you are constantly getting massively different groups that do massively different amounts of DPS

It’s not really about remembering what each card does, it’s using those cards optimally at any point while ur maintaining 95-100 cpm the entire raid… not saying either is harder but it’s like 2 different types of things you’d measure the difficulty on

But remembering what each card does is not what makes Empress hard. You have to: 1. Keep movespeed buff for RC. 2. Keep self-buff, which is only 3s in case of CoD. 3. Constantly spam skills to stay in Boundless 4. But also don't spam skills since they can move you into AoE And even if you do everything right, you can still have mediocre dps if RNG hates you and only gives Ghosts and Stars
