The most sought-after name in high-level, aggressive snowboarding; the Burton Custom X is a hard-charging, carbon reinforced and lighter weight version of the standard Burton Custom. With no expense spared in the construction or technologies utilised, the Custom X offers a pro-level snowboard that is a thing of beauty.
Burton has returned to it's cambered roots, with a traditional camber profile that offers snappy suspension and supreme levels of pop with an on-edge precision that is difficult to match. Continuous edge-control is a running theme with this snowboard, with weight being distributed evenly between all contact points. This is further driven home with the Custom X's twin flex profile, despite being a directional board (binding points slightly set back), Burton have developed the natural flex of the board to be identical in the tip and the tail to create a balanced ride regular or switch.
The core is where the technology in this snowboard really starts to shine. Featuring over 500 independent, individually-oriented laminations within the core with firmer wood strategically placed in the binding insert area (to increase dampness and stability) and lightweight wood used in the nose and tail (lighter swing-weight for turns and spins); Burton has managed to shave as much weight as possible while retaining all the inherent strength and energetic turn response of it's original version.
The use of carbon in key areas throughout the entire snowboard reduces weight and further enhance torsional strength. With carbon highlights in every layer of fibreglass, as well as carbon strands added to each layer; life is increased and weight is reduced even further.
The Burton Custom X is a seriously high-level snowboard that is lightweight, aggressive & responsive. It’s an unbelievable board that isn’t for the faint-hearted; but is wildly rewarding.

ive been riding a burton operator '09 year 158. bought it used but heavily scratched up. i'm a beginner but am able to link my turns and carve. just wanted to upgrade to a newer board, what do you recommend? i was looking at the jones hovercraft , less pricey than the burton and good reviews. i have size 12boots, 5'11 and 190lbs. thank you.

I appreciate your insights given here. Thanks. In your opinion how much stiffer than the Custom Camber would this be? I love to stay on edge and really flex the board. (Somehow I haven't ridden a Burton since 1990) - Old School Rider

Nice review, but now I’m torn between a Custom X and the new Super DOA.. any recommendation for someone who sticks to groomers?

VWRabbit2008 thanks my dude. Capita’s vids made it seem like it was just a hair behind a Custom X in stiffness, I may just go with the X

Dope... im thinking on coping it... how is it different from the 2019 custom x?

The Custom X is pretty much at the top of the game when it comes to snowboard construction. It’s still super aggressive and lightweight as the layup and shaping stays the same from 2019, it just get’s refined each year.

If anyone reads this can you please help me. I just bought a used one for $600 and the guy said it had only been used 10 times. It has a number of small chips on the nose and sides. Did I make a bad purchase or are said chips normal?

You can put a little bit more angle on the edges by sanding with a block at 45 degree angle back into the topsheet that might reduce their size. You can mix up some flexible marine epoxy and fill the chips. You need to mask off the undamaged area of topsheet and side edge precisely. fill in the chip. Then use a piece of clear tape shiny side down adhesive together on masking tape to tape down the epoxy to get a flat surface. The clear shiny tape will leave a smooth finish that will not require sanding or cutting in to existing topsheet. This is a process that requires a bit of skill and knowledge of fibreglass repairs. Chips are what can happen to snowboards. Not sure if that is $US600 but I grabbed my new '18 CX for $Au650 on EOS sales 3 years ago. A fantastic high charging ride in your quiver.
