I summary of suitable bushcraft clothing, for short-mid distance, spring/summer, woodland activities.
Apologies for the black edges. My new lens hood doesn't seem to be wide enough

I've watched a lot of UK/Europe-based videos on bushcraft and I'm amazed at how out of favor hats are there. A good hat keeps the rain out of your face, drys quickly, helps with mosquitos/ticks and can help keep stuff like multi-floral rose out of your face. I'm not saying it is right or wrong, just an interesting thing as I'd never consider going outdoors without some sort of hat.

+Tony Bibbs I completely agree. I often wear one of my many hats while walking through the woods, or when the temperature drops, or the rain starts. I also sleep in a hat sometimes, rather than bury my head under the covers.

I splashed out on a pair of 5.11 Covert trousers (about £50) and wear them every day. I bought another pair I was so impressed. Really hard wearing, with lots of handy pockets. I'm looking at a pair of 5.11 Kodiak trousers for Bushcraft, as they're even more heavy duty. Personal preference though, as they may be a bit heavy for some people. I've now also bookmarked a couple of pairs of Craghoppers :)

+Dave Capaldi I have been hearing a lot of good things about 5.11 trousers. I might invest in a pair. I personally prefer heavier trousers, as they resist thorns and other snags better. They can be a bit warm for long treks, and can get heavy when wet, but for around the camp, or a small/medium size wood, they are fine. A few people have complained about craghoppers stitching in the past, but I think it's where the price difference comes into it. I've only had one pair with a stitching problem, and wear them a lot, so maybe it depends which factory they come from, or just a quality control issue, somewhere along the production line. Still, can't complain for the cost of them really.

+treemarble I've not heard of Pinewood before. I will check them out. I normally get Craghoppers for £19.99 (so £20 basically), but have managed to pick a few pairs up for as little as £6 before on offers, but they are rarely as cheap as that usually.

Cornish Knives Cheers Mike. Could have gone into a little more detail on some items, but would have ended up at about 45 minutes long lol

good, common sense info Adam. you mentioned 511 pants as being expensive, but here in the States, especially when they discontinue a style they are very reasonable. I admit they look tactical but the layout of the pockets is very functional. they disco'ed a version called HRT pants, which I found perfect for cooler weather. they are fire retardant and actually have kevlar panels that protect both femoral arteries. much less expensive than Fjallravens (which I found did not stand up to use in brambles and thorns). haven't tried Graghoppers though. thanks again for an informative vid.

Cantab Hiker Thanks for the info. The HRT sound great, and much more tear resistant than the Crghoppers, which are a very cheap outdoor trouser, compared to most other brands. I also use some Bosch workwear trousers, which are very hard wearing, but the waist band sits too low for general comfort. Will keep a look out for discontinued 511s, if they are a reasonable price here in the UK. Most outdoor gear seems to keep it's price over here for some reason. Could be related to the quantity sold though.
