Bushido Blade was so ahead of it's time. It's crazy to even think about such complex fighting system with injuries was made in the late 90's on a psx.

Imagine modern dev teams try and the same thing lol. I guess that's what happens when an industry inevitably gets monopolized.

One of my favourite little details in Bushido Blade is that once you have lost the use of your leg you can submit to death by pressing Select .

Hellish Quart might be what you're looking for.

One of my favorite fighting games, it was so different from all the street fighter clones at the time. Also had a decent amount of secrets. Thanks for covering this classic gem!

I'm gonna die of old age waiting for a sequel. Hundreds of hours in the first and second game

I had all the major PS2 fighting titles and Kengo scratched a unique itch. Yes, the environments were samey, but I didn't even realise until you've mentioned it. The game was sober in a world of flashy Tekken and Dead or Alive entries. The feeling of scaling up the ranks of the dojo were real. You start by knowing a tiny set of moves and the gameplay was vastly different that Virtua Fighter could be from Tekken. And to defeat a dojo, you had to defeat ten guys in a row. Although it is true you have a lifebar and so the damage is more lenient, there was stances that used killing blows. Pair that with the slow, methodical training, and you had a unique, sober, peaceful samurai game. Never got too far, but I'm thinking I should take it up again, along with Way of the Samurai.

Fans gotta get the mainstream motivated to request Bushido Blade games on consoles like PS4, PS5, Switch, etc. SaGa and Front Mission made a comeback, so can Bushido Blade at least through ports or remasters. Tekken 2 is on PSN, Square Enix and Sony should be notified , the more demand the more likely they would port them., get Max Dood to push for Bushido Blade ports. they are on PS3 Japan psn store, if at least Japan PS4 psn gets them we could import them in seconds.a on PS4 and PS5

Man i KNEW i wasnt crazy, that teleporting piece of shit in the second game pissed me off so much lol, but yeah, the first 2 bushido games were crazy for their time. I didnt even know they made games after those first 2 i just thought they disappeared off the face of the earth. Cool video man, what a trip

I vaguely remember being sorely disappointed with the first Kengo. I originally sought it out based on claims of it being a spiritual successor to Bushido Blade, which only soured me even more on it when I learned how little the two had in common mechanically. It's a bit of shame there aren't more games like Bushido Blade out there. Sure, there are some indies that come close in places, but none I've seen quite match, barring maybe Hellish Quart.

Yeah I’m not surprised the first Kengo was disappointing. I kinda had higher hopes for it aince it was from the same dev team. But it just feels so rough and stiff. Nothing at all like Bushido Blade

Yea Hellish Quart is the only game that I feel like really is a spiritual successor to Bushido Blade. It's kinda a shame they don't really have an easier way to play multiplayer

We used to play the Bushido Blade chanbara mode at some of our parties, and for some strange reason we survived less the more we got drunk.

Pretty awesome look into the games, I wish more people looked into Lightweight's titles. That said, I disagree with you stating that Kengo 2's combat is simpler than Bushido Blade. It's an absolute rabbit hole filled with stances, moves, and counters.
@Forrealsyall
@Forrealsyall 4 месяца назад
Yeah I could see that. I think I just felt that way since I only played it for so long, and Bushido Blade just has all its buttons and moves laid out from the beginning while Kengo 2 kinda evolves overtime.

Great video bro. I have Bushido Blade 1 and 2 and I agree with you that part 1 is the best. There's nothing like it.

First Cut: Samurai Duel & Hellish Quart are both really good spiritual successors to Bushido Blade 1. I highly recommend checking out both.

I enjoyed your video, and opinion on both games! Not many talk about Bushido Blade as should, it was before it's time for sure. Respectfully, I do disagree with you about Bushido Blade 2. Bushido Blade 1 is that piff no doubt, but I've been finding myself playing Bushido Blade 2 much more lately (Playing now as I type this 😂. Jo is my main, with the nodachi or broadsword equipped lol). Back in the day growing up with it during ps1 era, I felt like you as far as both games. And was always biased toward 1 as thats the first game of the two I played fondly with friends. But over the years whenever going back to play them, even now, I enjoy 2 more. So it's subjective. Don't just count 2 out, as i believe it is the game of the two that got to the core of what made it fun. And I prefer the light weighted/ fast pace action as my reaction timing is quick and it works with my reflexes. Plus the character designs were better in 2 let's be honest. As I said I respect your take on 2, but don't knock it man. Bushido Blade 2 is dope at it's core and more fleshed out overall. Either way, it's nice to hear another fan with their take on this hidden gem! Great video my man, thumbs up from me for sure! 👍🏾

I actually liked the sequel more when I first played them, but when I played the two games more for this video I really saw all the depth of the original game, and gained a much greater appreciation for it. And when going back to the second game, it just felt hollow in comparison. I’m glad you enjoyed it though, and I always appreciate hearing others opinions.

@Forrealsyall Respect bro! No doubt trust when I say I understand exactly where you're coming from. Truth be told man I wish I could battle you in a few rounds lol. I'll definitely be revisiting both games for years to come. They are absolutely classics. And will never get old, especially when you've got men of culture like ourselves keeping them alive. There's nothing like them on the market, even games like Die By The Blade and Hellish Court don't do justice. The Bushido Blade franchise truly is one of a kind. Take care my brother, much love man 🫡
