As a Giants fan, this KIND of makes me like the Dodg....Nvm I take that back lol... Jokes aside. Respect to Clayton for acknowledging Posey's greatness regardless of rivalry.
As a die-hard Dodgers fan, nothing but pure admiration and respect to Mr. Gerald “Buster” Posey. He wore the hated uniform, but man he was/is a HOF caliber player. I’m glad I was able to watch him play for the duration of his career. One of the best to ever do it . Tip of the 🧢 to you. I see Posey, how I hope Giants fans view Kershaw.
@@chriscerta9821 This Giants fan agrees with you. In the end, they are just people, and Clayton and Buster come from the same type of background. Both are men of faith who are family men first and carry themselves as such both on and off the field. While I always hoped Buster hit a HR against Kershaw when they faced each other, I have never wished any ill will toward Clayton or any Dodger for that matter as people. I am sure most reasonable Dodger fans like yourself felt the same way in that you hoped Kershaw would strike Buster out, but never wished any ill will toward him personally. That is what being a fan is all about. Glad to see so many nice words from Dodger fans today. I hope us Giants fans return the favor when the likes of Kershaw or Justin Turner hang up their cleats! I know I will be one of the first to do so.
@@amanchabra8947 very well said and I could not agree more. Both are class acts both on and more importantly off the field. In my eyes the two teams have good players who are good people. Guys like Belt, Crawford, Posey are good players who have tremendous character. All came from within the organization like Seager, Kershaw and Buehler. Good folks who we respect and can appreciate their talent. Posey was a leader and cornerstone of the WS championships. Tip of the cap to you and fellow Dodgers and Giants fans.
Fuck the Giants, but with respect to the rivalry. Posey is a HoFer and a very much a likable dude except for the team he played for, and he made the rivalry better.
As a lifelong Dodger fan, I have big time respect for Buster Posey. There was never any nonsense about him. He just played outstanding baseball with no drama. Also, I admire any player who leaves money on the table to devote time to his family. His priorities are in order.
He’s just always been a standout person. You rarely get that these days, there’s so many seeking clout, or some kind of controversy either on or off the field or both. Not with Buster, he was raised right and has what so many lack today, which is respect, honesty, integrity, just basically living and playing by the book of you would basically want to be as a person yourself. He is a great embodiment of what it’s like to be a great player but even more of one as a person and what all of us should strive to be more like in our everyday lives. I all carried ourselves more like him, this world would be a much better place
The ONE Dodger I don't dislike. Respect Kershaw as a player, and he is a class act in his own right. They are lucky to have had him these past 10+ years as well
Im an A’s fan but ive grown up watching Buster Posey, and I remember walking on the field at AT&T park for a little league ceremony, and meeting him and Hunter Pence at a coffee place in the city. thanks Buster for being one of my favorite players that ive ever had the pleasure to watch.
@@skinnie2838 Uh, you're giving your opinion. If you want to look at it from both defense AND offense, it's Buster, without doubt. If purely defense, probably Yadier.
@@Dirgnimai7 Pudge Rodriguez held the record for putouts for 15 years until Yadier passed him. He is the best defensive catcher of all time. Buster is 28th. If Buster had played another 4-5 years your statement would be accurate because his offense would have overwhelmed Molinas. But he retired too soon.
your point was buster is without a doubt better if you factor in everything. MY point is.. not evern close. Yadier is 1st ballot hall of fame. Easy. Buster MIGHT get in if they let Thurmon Munson in.
As a hardcore Dodgers fan, Poseys presence was always intimidating. He has the calm under pressure abilities that are unmatched. Great human being, great leader, best catcher in the league for awhile. Mad respect. Congrats Buster.
@@randallmarsh1187 statistics back it up out of every Dodger to ever play the game his WAR is higher than all of them, higher than Duke Snyder, higher than Jackie Robinson, higher than Fernando Valenzuela, higher than Eric Gagne, higher than Pee Wee Reese, higher than Roy Campanella, higher than Don Sutton, and even higher than the legendary Sandy Koufax
He’s not making the hall of fame. A career WAR of 44.9 and 720 RBIs not happening. Those would be some of the lowest totals ever elected for a position player. Only 5 players in history have been elected to the hall with 1500 or fewer hits. One died the year after he collected it. Still as an active player. I do agree with the fact his play was very good and on a hall of fame path the volume is not there. He had under 5,000 career at bats his batting average slugging% and on base % won’t qualify to even be a comparison as MLB requires a minimum of 5,000 to be considered in the all time totals for those categories.
@@early_crypto_investor4451 Id agree with except for this: When Buster retired, the entirety of the media and writers association, along with pretty much anyone who played with or against him said he was a HOFer. The two things people forget about voting is Winning and Character Judgement. Sure, the counting stats aren't Elite because of volume, but when taking into account he was an NL catcher (very few DH opportunities), who refused to switch to 1B permanently multiple times, the lack of volume is easily explainable. But, he was a consistent producer and the best player on 3 champions which does factor in to voting (albeit Bernie Williams still got screwed). Next is Character Judgement, and Buster is second to none when it comes to being a fantastic teammate and member of his community, he has done so much good for starving people and in particular Pediatric cancer, these also factor in. I love analytics, but there is a level of listening to the professionals and consideration for the style of career they had that needs to be done when talking about who is truly GREAT, and it seems to be unanimous that Buster is just that according to the people who admittedly know better than us. Your argument above for me works much better on someone like Lincecum. His 3 year peak of 2008-2010 was incredible, and he was statistically the best pitcher in the entire league in '08-'09 (led literally everything except IP). '10 he still threw a 3.10 ERA and led the NL in SOs. After that, he fell off a cliff. But, for 3 years he outpitched probably 7-8 HOF caliber people; Scherzer, Greinke, Verlander, Sabathia, Waino...etc. Timmy was HOF caliber but injuries shortened that to 3 years. So, for him I agree it is fair to say volume is a genuine reason he cannot be in the HOF. If you add all the context, I don't think it is fair to say that for Posey.
Yes, he wears Dodger Blue, but Kershaw has consistently been know to be a good human being. He shows once again it in this video. Like he does for Buster, we will look at Kershaw with respect.
@@r.l.9797 Yeah, I was hoping that Buster would stick around the organization - but then I saw an interview with Kuip and he referenced Posey moving back to Georgia...He's gonna lay low for a bit. I'm sure we'll see him around the ballpark every now and then, but I wonder if he even wants to coach or manage. He seems like the kind of guy who would be totally content just being himself and enjoying the good life that he's been able to make for his family.
@@r.l.9797 Oh, stop it. Every place has its issues. It's not like Posey would have to worry about finding affordable housing. I don't think his moving back to Georgia is a rejection of San Francisco or California. He's from Georgia. He met his wife in high school. I imagine both of their families are all still in that area of Georgia. Them choosing to live in Georgia makes a lot of sense and doesn't have to reflect poorly on anywhere else.
What are you talking about? Why do we need him? We won THREE championships withOUT him. He chokes during post season, EVERY year! He's thrown so many pitches for the Dodgers that his arm is nearly given out by now and is near retirement!
@@proudasiangirl576 We are also losing alot of players for next year. And those championships are almost 10 years old. We have not won one recently. We desperately need starting pitchers for next year.
Old geezer here. I’ve had the pleasure of watching most of Yogi Berra‘s career, all of Johnny Bench‘s career, as well as other great catchers. Buster Posey is a great catcher. In my humble opinion, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Buster, thank you for the great memories.
To me. I never like the Dodgers. Especially as a Giants fan. The thing I have a big problem with is the Dodger fans. Much respect to Kershaw tho. Mad Bum still owns him. Lol!
No doubt Posey will make HOF. I'm just shocked he was able to walk away like this. Good for him. Not many players will be able to make a decision like this.
Agreed. Outside of the teams they play for, they actually have a lot in common. Both are men of faith who are family-first guys, and show it in their conduct on and off the field. I will be all over the Dodger message boards giving Kershaw his props and respect when he retires.
Gosh, as a Dodgers fan I was always afraid of Posey. Thank God he is retired or else he would give me a heart attack. Thank you Buster Posey-you’re a hall of famer!
Much respect from a Dodger fan here. Posey was a great player but more than that he’s everything God could ask for in a male human - class act, great father, great husband, he’s even a believer. Btw, Kershaw is going, “he beat me to it”. This guy will announce his retirement this off-season too, for the same reason.
it would be a joke if if he does not get into the Hall, too many times it is for stat compilers rather than peak performance, he was the best at his position for a decade , at worst 1 or 2 with Yadier Molina.Go Dodgers 2022 by the way
This is why I love baseball so much. We are lucky to have rivals to make the the season more interesting, but at the end of the day, the respect for true talent shines through. Kershaw has always been a class act.
Game recognizes game! Kershaw is one of the greats, so he knows better than most what a hall of famer looks like, and his testimonial about Posey was wonderful! They will both be in Cooperstown one day!
Very classy of Kershaw to give his honest positive insight on a fantastic player from an opposing team such as Buster. Respect from the Giants community 👍
Nice to see Kersh speak about posey even tho they were rivals, and respect to buster on a great career even tho I hated him cause he was a giant, but enjoy retirement
Clayton Kershaw is a class act. Coming from a Giants' fanatic, he's the only Dodgers I like. Respect to Kershaw. Who knows...he may be announcing his retirement shortly too!
Kershaw's trying to be nice, and I can understand that. But Yadier Molina was clearly the best of his generation. I don't think any reasonable person would argue with that.
just shows how good of a career buster had, the same respect will be shown to Molina when he retires, which will be soon. best catchers of the modern era hands down
“The best of his era”? I think Molina has something to say about that. Don’t get me wrong, Posey was a great leader and catcher, but not on Molinas level
Thanks Clayton, buster posey is indeed the greatest baseball catcher in the era. Congratulations buster , Blessings to you and your family as long as you live
Kershaw my man… did you forget about that troll in St. Louis Molina? Not to take away from posey… I’ll give him the bat but defensively it’s not close…
I wouldn't be surprised if Buster is a first ballot HoFer. How many players can say they've won 3 WS and all the individual awards not to mention calling pitches in multiple no hitters and Cain's perfect game
Johnny Roseboro did some of those things (3 WS plus no-hitters and perfect game). He also won 2 Gold Gloves (Posey won one) , but he was not close to the hitter Posey is.
See that's what I'm talking about right here. Buster has always been humble and played the game right! And I believe IMO Kershaw is the same type of ball player. Much respect to him as well and I am sure it will be the same for him when he retires also. Especially if he retires as a Dodger.
@@CoutureThug Very true. I wouldn't want to hang with Bumgarner, but you love the snot rockets when he was kicking butt! Kershaw seems too nice to be a Dodger. LOL
True, but when the player of the pedigree of Kershaw, an all time great, shares his perspective on Posey, an all time great.. it just makes sense to have Kershaw speak about Posey. No disrespect to Wood, but there are levels of players
as a lifelong Dodgers' fan. I have mad respect for Buster. He's ALWAYS been the guy in your lineup that I've feared as a fan. The guy just doesn't go away quietly or easily. Toughest out in the lineup. He was always a "class act" and always was a pro's pro. cheers to Posey. It'll be good not to see him in your lineup anymore, lol.
I've been a Dodger fan since 1957. Buster Posey was a very fine competitor and a class act in his own right. You never saw any scandal or BS with him off the field. Clayton Kershaw hit the nail on the head when he said Posey was the one guy he didn't want to face in an RBI situation. That's a perspective you won't hear from a SF Giants fan! If Buster had played in L.A. or N.Y., he'd have been a superstar. He IS a first ballot HOF'er.
Well that was really nice and totally not something he had to do. But Posey hasn't ever been even close to ANY controversies except that he was the center point of the Scott Cousins/Buster Posey rule change. When healthy there wasn't a single bad thing you could say about his game and there was never a single bad thing anyone ever said about the man. Even as a young guy he did everything really well.
As an avid Dodger fan, nothing but respect for the incredible player Buster Posey was for the Giants. As a fan, he was the one player I hated seeing play against the Dodgers with the game on the line because he would more than likely come through. As a fan you hate the successes that player would have against your team, but respected the accomplishments as the competitor he was. He is the hall of fame catcher of this generation #respect
