My main thing is the ref calling a goaltend FROM WAY OVER THERE. That's not his call!

@@bigscarce4 are you a referee? because that's definitely the correct call and the trail or center should have definitely made that call. the lead(endline) does not look at the rim action because he has to see the play inside the paint.

The call is correct because the shooter had the ball over the cylinder. Once it’s there, you cannot touch the ball

@@united_ultimate7378 I don't think that's the rule at all if it's still in his hand. The goaltend was that a whole other player moved the rim with his hands while the ball was up there.

I believe the rule is if the ball is over the cylinder of the hoop you can’t knock it out of the cylinder. It could have also been the other guy hitting the rim with his hand.

I think they ruled it a goal tend because the Xavier player touched the rim while the Butler still had the ball in his hands. So it was technically the right call but it’s a stupid way to lose.

Yes. It was a rule made in the 80s but it does not count towards you as a technical, it just functions like a technical.

The ball was in the shooter's hand when it was blocked, so that can't be a goaltending.

The only thought I had was to prevent a possible 3 pointer. At least with the foul, Xavier would only shoot 2 free throws to tie it up.

@@10thletter40 i believe it was because the other player touched the rim after it was blocked; the rule for goaltending is touching the rim or backboard whilst the ball is in the air however, in this context, i think it is dumb because it was blocked already why award points to something very clearly not going in? in football, a pass interference has a technicality to it that it can only be pass interference.... if there's a pass to interfere with unless they are holding, which is a completely different penalty but if the pass is just thrown way off, there's technically no pass interreference because the ball aint going to where its supposed to go anyway something like this should definitely apply to goaltending because xavier lost the game, and perhaps their ranking because of this call
