FOR SALE: 1970 Malibu (Super Sport Tribute)
I usually wouldn’t post something like this, but I cannot have this knowledge and take the chance of anyone being taken advantage of. I want to take this opportunity to make the Chevelle community aware of a situation that I experienced.
Note, this is not the current Blue SS 396 Chevelle I currently own.
I discovered this car back in December 2022 for sale on Facebook. With the pictures shown and the description that states,
“The term ‘rust free’ is defined by this Chevelle. The original floors, frame rails, and trunk floors are incredible. Truly a Southern California car”
I was eager to see the car in person. I expressed many times to the seller on the phone that it was important to me that it was in the condition stated in the ad and that there was no rust or body issues. He assured me this car was in great condition, as the ad stated.
I would like to mention that the car was not in Murrieta, as stated in the ad but was in a building in San Diego. This meant that the seller was not as available to show me the car, but he could arrange to have his business partner release the car to me. Knowing how much engagement this car was receiving on the ad posted, I specifically said, “as long as the car is exactly as what we’ve been discussing reflecting the ad,” then I would be comfortable purchasing the car through a wire transfer and picking it up. The purchase was then processed, and arrangements were made to pick up the car.
When I arrived to pick up the car, I was shocked. It was nothing like the ad states about being rust-free. I had so many conversations with the seller about this, and he knew this was very important to me and a deal breaker. I did receive a full refund, thankfully. He told me he was “unaware” and had “not completely inspected the vehicle.”
The most disturbing thing about all of this is that this Chevelle has just resurfaced by the same seller, and the car is listed for sale again with the SAME DESCRIPTION, IMAGES, and PRICE when the seller clearly is aware at this point of the imperfections, rust, and true condition of the car.
