Buyer Beware! | LG C2/G2 C3/G3 And Xbox Series X Problem 

I previously used a 65” LG E9 OLED and never had a problem. I’ve just upgraded to the 77” C3 and this happens on a regular basis. I used to swap to the RU-vid app, watch a few seconds of a 4K video then swap back to the Xbox and that fixed the issue most times. I now leave the TV on the Xbox HDMI input for a minute then power up the console. This works 99% of the time. It seriously needs fixing though.

I've been using the LG C2 with my Series X for over a year now, with Zero issue's. The console boots up with the correct Resolution. I do use energy saving mode as well. I Have 4K, 120Hz and HDR Enabled.

I have the same problem with mycket lg c2 42 inch, what to do ?

This happened on my Samsung au-8000 43. Got an a2 no issue with resolution but i have gotten a black screen??

just got a C3 and series X and having this issue as well as flickering/pops and even sometimes the whole image turns to static. usually replugging the hdmi in to the tv fixes it but i don't want to wear out the ports. xbox and c3 are fully up to date and ive tried toggling a bunch of settings like VRR HDR dolby vision 120hz nothing fixes it. happens multiple times a day. still just got the tv so i plan on looking into it more but its such a headache that these 2 top of the line pieces of tech just don't play well together

I have a LG G3 and I have problems with the display kicking out of 4k and doing to a lower resolution. I have got a green screen when playing on the Series x today. I think it’s some kind of handshake issue between the 2 devices. I have shut everything down, unplug the HDMI cables and the power cables to the devices and the TV. After that everything worked again.

have you tried restarting the TV or unplugging an plugging back in the HDMI or get something that's not LG or even changing the res in the settings or using a different HDMI slot so many things you haven't tried

I watched your video. And when you went to settings I didn't see you try clicking on the resolution to change it manually to 4k. I'm sure you tried that or will it not let you switch to 4k or are you waiting it to recognize on its own without manually changing.

I don’t have this issue on my G2 55 and I have had no problems for a year with the picture but the sound cuts out now again to my sound bar so I have to restart the Xbox X and it’s fine again

Bought the LG C3 48 inch about 2 weeks ago, in the UK. Current tv firmware, 03.11.54. According to tv it is up to date. Took delivery of Xbox series X today and having all sort of trouble. The only temporary solution is to keep unplugging the supplied HDMI cable (have tried with another high speed HDMI cable, no difference) and reconnecting it. It reverts to 480 - then sometimes to 1080 and eventually to 4k. Not usable at all. I’ve not got a ps5 but wishing I opted for ps5 now. It must be the TV so next step is to force an update of the firmware on the TV. Not had chance to play any games. Have you progressed further?

I have that exact issue atm with the poor resolution going to 640 and shrinking the home screen? My console is actually In a local repair store to check it and I have a new one I'm keeping the seals on for now until I find out what's going on. The on. The other problem I have is the sound when playing a 4k movie through xbox using my dolby atmos soundboard the sound constantly connects and disconnects on the soundbar? It just as you say doesn't play well.

I had this issue with my C1 , purchased in late 2021, where is would sometimes not even display an image. I would have to power off and back on, or unplug the console and then turn it back on. I tried even replacing my launch Series X with a new one and sold my original Series X when that wasn't the issue. Today it happened again, and this has been a couple years now. I turned on the power to be the Power Saving. If I complete shutdown I was good, if I just did restart it would show 640x480 EVERY time I did restart. SO looking around I found this and the newer video and turned on HDMI-CEC with nothing check marked on the Series X settings. Now several restarts on Xbox and shut downs testing today, its been working so far. Fingers crossed it stays this way. Like you mentioned I have several other devices that NEVER have this issue on mine. Apple TV 4k, PS5, and Switch. So thanks for making this video. I have my streaming Series X going through an HDMI splitter that supports 4k 120 pass-through that goes into my cap card that goes out to my 27" LG OLED monitor. Never had this issue with the monitor. And as I am typing out this comment, I did another restart test on Series X and guess what? Right back to the damn 640x480. So I shut it all the way down, powered on and now good again. What does seem to work every time is turn on Series X first, wait about 10 secs, turn on my tv and switch inputs. I just think its random with what will and wont help.

can you not change the resolution in the xbox settings? you kind of just backed out, or are you upset its not doing it automatically

I have an LG G3 and came from a C1. I started getting this issue a month ago. Never experienced and had 200 hours on the G3 before it happened. Big ole wtf moment. I have to turn on the xbox first and then the TV a minute later. Ive turned off HDMI CEC off completely. Its hard to distinguish which one update did it. Both things are updated always...

Not sure you read comments or not I just bought a C3 it pulls up the Game Center mode on when I’m gaming but it’s set to 59fps I’m losing my mind. You can’t change it to 60fps the settings are stuck at standard mode you can’t change it either. Any advice?

Lg c2+sound bar have had major issues with handshake. Currently have really good luck with switching both sound bar and TV input to Xbox before turning it on

I bought a 48 inch c3 I have a series x connected to it as well as a ps5 series x is so hit and miss all the problems you have listed I’ve encountered wish I’d know before I bought so frustrating

I don’t have that issue on my c2. And I had it for a while. Very odd

I have the lg c2 and I have the same resolution problem. I have to restart my console a couple of times. Recently I started restarting (unplugging from power) the tv too because only console restart does not work very well. And I fully agree with the issues of starfield. It just does not look good on oled. It just does not feel right and the 30 fps is just too distracting on an oled tv.

are you sure its not the xbox? you've changed the tv, the wire, and you still have the issue. have you tried a different series x? if not, try factory reset the console

I’m having this same exact issue with my Series X on my 55” LG C3. Who’s at fault here? Is it a problem with the Xbox or LG? My hunch is it’s a problem on LG hardware because I don’t see complaints about this issue from other TV manufacturers. I called LG and they say their is no problem 🤦‍♂️

I just got a Series X for Christmas. At first start up, everything worked fine. But then I started to experience the exact same problems as you are showing. I have an LG OLED C2 and it has intermittent issues with the display starting up in 640x480, which is not even a selectable option within Xbox and should not occur at all. I contacted Microsoft and they are aware of the issue and stated others have complained with the same issue; they blamed LG for the issues. I contacted LG and they were able to remotely access my TV, but of course when I tried to show them the problem, it did not occur at the time. I've toggled energy saver mode, I've changed HDMI cords as well as inputs on the TV, and toggled CEC. Still, the problem persists on start up randomly and can be a pain to get back. Really frustrating considering the TV was $1400 and the Xbox was $460...hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Turn on filmmaker mode, turn Noise Reduction on Auto, MPEG on Auto and that should resolve your issues on the C3 but maybe not the C2

Have the same issue with my 77' G2. I don't have this issue with my C9.

Try using hdmi 1 instead of HDMI arc (hdmi 2)

I personally had the same issue with C2, C3 and G3. I started getting the issue with the resolution and then no signal. I just bought the new Sony A95L and it works beautifully without issues.

Same issue, hate it I turn on the the tv and 3 seconds in I turn on my Xbox, seems avoid that issue

Same here. C3 sX worked fine for 3 weeks, then colored snow, then black screen. Going to return and wait another year, hopefully for an updated Sony.

I have z 65CX oled with Xbox x. there is no problem with it. try changing hdmi cable .

No issues on my Sony A95K

i have a c1 and zero problems everything works even dolby vision for gaming

Having the same problem with my series x with my c2 65 inch oled! Bought this tv for my ps5 and Xbox, ps5 works great, but not my xbox!! Hope they fix this problem soon

i get this 480p on my series x now and again with my lg g3, what i also get is a black screen when i try and load a game with the series x set at 4k120, works fine at 4k60 though. used the hdmi lead that came with the series x and an ultra high speed certified lead but both are the same, no issues with my ps5 set at 4k120 though. regret buying the oled tv, had a samsung q90r qled that stopped working before this g3, wish i had bought another qled as the blacks are almost as good but without the oled worries we can have

I've had a C3 since September and have had nothing but issues with the Series X. Absolute waste of money. Constant black screens, green screens, and no signals. I'm getting rid of this piece of shit.

Have had c3 had issues over 2 years dealing w it on my second xbox . Its the chip in the tv some have bad ones

Gotta be honest sometimes my C2 does this, squashes everything into a letterbox type thing, settings say my TV doesn't support the stuff it does. It's an Xbox issue for sure I personally think. No issues whatsoever on the PS5. I've considered selling my XBox also, hardly ever use it tbh. Thanks for the vid as always my friend.

I have zero issues with my 77” C3 and my series X, ps5, switch, pc, or my steam deck. Perhaps you should edit your inputs and change the inputs from “game” to “pc” and report back.

55" C2 with the same issue. For me, the only way round it is to power the Series X on then around 10 seconds or so later turn the TV on. Its not perfect but it saves a headache most of the time! Annoying if your watching TV already and a friend comes on! It then becomes a lottery if it will work or not! i think its a hardware issue and both the TV and the Xbox just have some handshake issues! I think i did see this address on the LG website but it didn't offer much in terms of information or fix!

Have the same problem with the C1, the only thing that solves it is unplugging the HDMI switching power of then restarting everything. Doesn't happen every time maybe every couple of months.

I have the same problem with my lg c3 42 inches, I have to restart my xbox and tv múltiple times until the decide to play nice.

I have a LG CX and a XB Series X. Been dealing with low resolution bug and "invalid format" issues for years. So frustrating! Spent tons on $$$ on this setup and shouldnt have any issues. I've searched so many forums and videos about this. No fix. I have another XBox One X. I have zero issues on that console.

What a weird issue Have been using my Series X with my C1 (and now C3) for 2+ years. No weird issues like that. Have mine set to 4K / 120 / VRR / HDR enabled. No issues at all.

oddly enough I hated the ui change but I Dont think I would sell a console over it, thats some petty shit

Same off and on problems with my c2 42” and 55” my series s is completely black screen out of nowhere, I’m gonna buy a ps5 at this point

When you have this problem, go settings, device HDMI settings. Set 4K off. After that set 4K ON again. Problem fixed. When you did that, you need to activate game optimizer again.

I have a C1, and 2 C3’s and they are the best displays/tvs out there. The series X issue is present on all of them and it’s definitely a pure series X issue. Nothing of the sort happens on the PS5, and on the C1 I had the series S hooked to it a long time and never saw that issue ever. This is specific to the Series X for sure. It doesn’t happen every time luckily but it’s still ultra annoying. On top of that the series X won’t let the LG remote control it on the C3, but I can control it with the LG controller on the C1 with no problem. I don’t know if it’s because I recently took the series X off the C1 and linked it with the C3 and maybe it’s getting confused, but as far as I know it should just automatically universal control it regardless. But yea the C series are quite literally known as the best gaming TV’s out there and of course we got silly issues like this going on. Im sure updates will fix the issue sooner or later, but with you all the way. Seems like Microsoft preferred getting the series X to work better for Samsung TV’s because they are partners. This doesn’t happen on Samsung QLED’s, but those tvs don’t even come close to LG’s OLEDS, and I have no clue if it happens on Samsungs OLED tvs.

C3 and g3 also have very bad color issues in game mode, if you look at kg videos, it kills colors n makes them all super dull.

yuor xbox is with a hdmi problem need a fix , if under warranty they will fix it for you if not try to find a specialist in micro soldering and you will be ok.

Had problems with the Xbox but none with the ps5 or pc 🤷🏻‍♂️

Got a 55 inch c3 yesterday and it was doing everything you mentioned. White screen, coukdnt watch hdr movies it wouldnt recognize any movie hdr content. It would flash the game menu wouldnt work, resolution issue. Called lg and i got sooooo pissed. She kept saying oh well game without deep color turned on!! I said shit no i spent a fortune on a GARBAGE TV!! she kept saying sir its your xbox not being 120 fps. ITS A SEREIS X LADY ITS 120 FPS!!! LG use to be my ❤ tv. Anyway best buy took it back so i have another coming on the 5th. I just hope and pray it works. Its such a beautiful tv like wtf lg!!!!!

Fear not. It is not your TV. This is an Xbox software issue. I have a Samsung TV and quite often, my Samsung will not recognize my Xbox Series X. I usually have to restart my TV several times. It has to do with the auto detection software on the Xbox and the "Smart TVs". I noticed this occurred more if my Xbox was set to quick start up. Hopefully Microsoft fixes this issue in the future.

I been having the same issue with my G3. Who's fault is it really? PS5 has ZERO issues, Switch ZERO issues. DVD player, ZERO issues. We are blaming LG, but it's only a issue with the Xbox. Maybe Xbox is the issue, they seem to push Samsung TV's.

The Xbox is fine, it is a tv issue. I have hooked up my xbox to 5 tv/projectors now and they all worked fine in every way.

Having nothing but issues on my c3 77 PS5 works just fine but nope series x acts a fool

Still rocking a 1080p plasma tv. I instinctively knew all the new standards were not up to snuff yet. Within the next year I will start thinking about upgrading my setup.

It happens to my LG C2 as well, not always , but sometimes it does and its annoying. Till now neither LG or Xbox has a fix for this...

"Premium" HDMI cables are a scam. Digital cables have either a 100% signal or a 0% signal

Sounds like HDMI port issue on Xbox. Can’t disconnect the hdmi cable too many times or it’ll start wearing. Learned my lesson after a couple systems.

Ok so this is my conclusion... personal btw... I have had the same issues, no signal/ format, white flickering screen, solid snow white screen resolution changes all the above. I have had 3 lg c3 55 inch tvs within a month due to this shit. Anyway the one I have now everytime I would go to stream movies on xbox movie app or any streaming service ot would work for almost a hour and then just drop dead like complete signal loss. Long story short... in the VIDEO RANGE I was using limited because for xbox its recommended when I switched it to AUTO EVERYTHING WORKED PERFECTLY!!! NO SIGNAL DROP I CAN NOW CONNECT THE TV WITH THE XBOX WITH THE CEC OR WHATEVER AND NO ISSUES IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. PUT YOUR SIGNAL LEVEL ON AUTO NOT LIMITED LET THE TV AND XBOX DO THE THINKING AND CONFIGURATION

I think you're not changing the xbox resolution to 4k. You set it to SD. I think you're a PS5 fan boy. I've had a C2 and a C3 and works perfectly.

BEWARE! I bought the 65” C3 from Best Buy and had intermittent issues with my Xbox Series X… it turns out this TV only has 60hz where next gen gaming requires 120 or above. Do NOT buy this TV for next gen gaming. Otherwise it’s a beautiful TV. I had to replace it via Best Buy, which offered me the Sony BRAVIA XR A80L OLED since it has 240hz. LG admitted to me on the phone that this is a known incompatibility issue with only the Xbox Series X with no true workarounds and they won’t replace it under manufacturer’s warranty.

Life is Good i got a PS5 and PC, XBOX sucks!
