@1:40 my first zed I bought in 2004. It had been parked up 8 years. I put a new battery on and it fired up right away. I used super market oil to flush the engine (from Asda, in the us I guess that's like wall mart). I then went to university. 3 years later I changed the oil again. Oops. Was supposed to be a flush. I taught drifting with it at the weekend and it was my daily. I put 40k miles on it. Na manual. I did all the deletes after coolant leaks. Otherwise it never had an issue. #reliable

When I bought mine it went into the shop right away due to power steering leakage (automatic NYS inspection failure) Gas line leaks, Seals for the Twin Turbos seeping oil, replacement of the water pump (as long as the front of the engine was off, why not), 25 bolts were missing from the engine (WTF !!!?) , etc. Then when the shop charged the engine with pressure, they started it up, and blew out the radiator and all the hoses ! It was in the shop for three weeks and it cost me $4000 dollars to get it on the road. It was a 1991 and I loved it and cared for it for 10 years. I sold it to a collector who does his own engine repairs. I know it went to a good home. But my advice is be careful of major engine problems with this car. It's high performance is linked to high maintenance !

Thanks for sharing James! Yes, Maintenance is key. Fun can but do have to keep them up. What are you driving now days? Did you replace the Z with something else?

Off topic maybe, but can you do the 120k service without removing the intake plenum and valve covers? Do you really have to lock the cams, or can’t you just mark the cam pulleys before removing to access the seals behind them (do the pulleys only go on one way anyways)?
@BuildTheoryZ
@BuildTheoryZ 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! You don not need to take the intake manifold off to complete the 120k service, just to do the valve cover and Spark plug gaskets. Don’t have to lock the cams, just mark them, they already have a mark from the factory. I was able to turn them by hand to get them back in position. Just make sure you you have everything lined back up

@@BuildTheoryZ Awesome, thank you Jesse! I bought my 2+2 last year. It was leaking oil everywhere, so i replaced all the gaskets/seals on the top and back side of the engine. I did not feel like taking the top side apart again so soon... I am approaching 110k and the belts were last done in 2006. I pray everytime i drive the car! :-(
@woodnutz78
@woodnutz78 3 года назад
@@CaptainGSR FYI, if you previously pulled the plenum off and did the coolant bypass mod (or if it was already done), it's 10x easier to pull it off once that's done. But, yes, as Jesse noted, no need to pull the plenum for a timing belt change.

@@woodnutz78 I did the bypass mod. I just do not feel like taking the valve covers off again. Cheers,

I have one but I’m having a hard time looking for the best and most reliable brands for body kits and exhaust. Help?
@BuildTheoryZ
@BuildTheoryZ 3 года назад
Thanks for Watching! I like twin z design for exterior. For Exhaust, If you have a coupe (2+0) I like HKS Hi-Power, If you have a 2+2 (Like my self, #FamilyLife) I'm still working on that. I'm Honestly thinking about that HKS Hi Power and Making some extensions, but stay tuned to see what I ultimately end up with.

Im looking at a 300zx and the owner doesn’t know if it had the 120k maintenance, is that a bad sign
@BuildTheoryZ
@BuildTheoryZ 3 года назад
Thanks for watching l! It’s not a bad sign, it’s just information that you need to make the decision and negotiate price. I would factory in that you’ll have to get the 120k service done and the cost is. I would negotiate that out of the price of the car or at lest a portion.

@@BuildTheoryZ I appreciate these detailed and informative videos man they really help! Where should I get the 120k maintenance at?
@BuildTheoryZ
@BuildTheoryZ 3 года назад
@@andyvargas7641 Now that is a good question. Where are you located? Nissan will definitely know what that service covers and be able to get all the correct parts, but be the most expensive. Next option is to look for someone that specializes in JDM cars and Z’s. Third would be to talk with a local automotive repair shop, see if they know the car, know the 120k service (they should have the database to pull that info) and they tell them specifically what you would like done. Might have to do a little research but you are definitely in the right place. Plus hit me up if you have any questions, I’ll tell you what I know and at lest point you in the right direction

 @Andy Vargas If there's no proof it was done, you have to do it ASAP. Not necessarily a bad sign, just a good bargaining chip. Too much risk of grenade-ing the engine... which will happen if the belt fails. Paying for a 120k service should be about $1100-$1200 (negotiate that into the price), about $600 for DIY with an "all-inclusive" kit. It's really not THAT difficult to do, but you do have to follow the specs/writeups carefully and not take any shortcuts. The info is out there - just have to search. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, it's imperative that you find a Z32 mechanic. Bernie is on the east coast, Specialty Z on the west coast, Zshack and IPP are in Houston, and I'm sure there are others - do your homework. For me, if I'm not doing the work, I enlist Bernie in VA and no one else. He is the premier Z32 mechanic. Also, mileage plays a factor. While many recommend a year interval for the timing belt, while definitely not a bad practice to follow, the actual Nissan spec is for 60k miles - no time interval. However, I highly doubt you're getting a Z32 with less than 60k, so that may be moot. Have a link to share for the listing? Curious to see what the car looks like. Good luck and welcome to the club if you decide to buy! It's one hell of a car.
