Nissan 300zx Power Mods for the NA Vg30de. Here are a few Ways to unlock more power with the 300zx NA. All bolt on mods Intake, Exhaust, Tuning and more. Upgrade you intake filter to get more air in the engine, Upgrade the exhaust to2.5 to get that spent exhaust gases out of the engine cylinders as efficiently as possible, Upgrade your ECU tuning to make all the parts work efficiently, efficiently is going to be the key to making more Power with your NA 300zx.

Another tip for NA guys. Delete all the factory coolant crap under the inlet and through the throttle bodies. These heat up the inlet manifold a lot. Fitting a cat back exhaust on my car made no difference other than noise. Deleting these bits, plus binning all the other engine in bay crap* made a HUGE difference to response and torque, especially mid range. Plus it stops the dreaded coolant leaks. *The exhaust recirc valve on the back of the block, between the heads. That is a sod as well. I also blocked the pcv and ran a catch can. Doing all this actually improved the emissions as well!!!

@@Meefehyjkoygsww there is a z32 wiki page that has pretty good guides. I went from there. Are you in the UK? If so I'd be happy to help where I can. I'd add to my above advice that a lightweight flywheel was amazing. I used a SR20 one iirc and the engine revs like hell now. The plenum deletes are pretty simple tbh. It's only the egr that's a pain and to save chew if you don't want to go mad, you can leave the actual valve on the engine and delete the pipes. Hard to explain without pictures

@@AdamMGTF not in the UK. Very nice of you to offer though. Good tip on the flywheel as well. Just got my z32 last week so I’ve been learning a lot over the last few days. Definitely a newbie when it comes to working on cars, so not the best first choice for a rwd maybe. But I love the car. 93 red vert 2+0 NA with 95k miles. Had its pump and timing belt done at 78k

@@Meefehyjkoygsww want my email? I'd be happy to help where I can... Top tip. The year of manufacture doesn't mean much with these. The spec is more important and even that varies. It's actually a very easy car to work on. You'll have no issues learning on it. The turbo ones are tight in the engine bay. But the na ones have plenty of room and they generally are very well supported after market (it helps that lots of parts of S bodies and skylines fit)

I deleted air intake resonators all the plastic stuff and used pipe expansion plugs to plug up the holes made throttle response crisp ! Thank you for these videos finally na is getting some love !

on top of what jesse said there's plenty of mods you can still do to the n/a manual to be faster than a stock tt-auto in a quick drag. first do every delete known to the vg30de or tt to reduce the weight even better if you got a 1990 2.0 base model 5sp like i have which came factory with 4.11 ratio diff gears, no hicas, no cruise control, no abs. no wings no side skirts it's all excess weight, power to weight ratio means a lot on small engines. don't just disconnect things get that shit out of there, eg: aiv's, behind front wheel arches, standard airbox and pipes etc have to plug other pipes, egr delete and block plenum, delete rear wiper motor, then a set of exhaust headers with a pair of ss megan down pipes, ss twin magnaflow mufflers, ss uas x pipe centre muffler, under drive pulley kit with mod to water pump pulley size, stage 3 clutch with a lite weight steel fly wheel, ecu eprom plug fitted to ecu board for different tune chips that can be change out or re tuned. also series 2 ptu, single piece tail shaft, delete clutch fan and fit a big davis-craig thermo fan to radiator, i use a Mishimoto radiator, with lower the degree nismo thermostat. blue gates timming belt, also my air cond packed up years ago so i remove all of it and boy did it weight a shit load plus i don't like driving it on hot days anyway, plus my bose speakers were clapped out you'd be surprised how much they all weight too. as they each have and amplifier built into them making them very heavy too. i don't run a spare tire or jack etc ide call a tow truck if needed. i don't drive around on a full tank of fuel to much extra weight, don't run big rims with fat tyres its more weight to get spinning. plenty of other upgrades done but not really related to hp gain like fresh injectors and new coil packs and wiring deletes etc. ive owned my zed for pretty much 20 yrs now and done all the mods myself ive never put it on a dyno but its a hell of lot quicker than when i bought it when it was 100% stock. it also handles better too, so win win. we also have 98 octane here in Australia on pump at every servo. and inside my fuel door it says to only use 98 octane because its a jap import to australia. ive never wanted to sell this little rocket in all this time ive had it. ive had plenty of other cars but this is my favourite one of all time and im in my mid to late 50s now. its still only travelled 130k on the clock, plus when its a 2.0 black on black you'll never go back, lol

Thanks Mexican Monster! If it dose try the O2 de-fowler, I’m running them on my 350z that has headers, CEL was on for O2 sensor, I just replaced O2 sensors and added those de-Fowlers at the same time no more light.

Congratulations on the TT Engine! If I was going to Upgrade Turbos right now I would use... the Z1 GT525, they work with the 4 bolt down pipe 400-500hp range, If your replacing down pipe and want to go with 5 bolt down pipe, the GT555R for the 450-500+hp range. Good Luck out there!

I have every bolt on on my z most noticeable upgrades were the lightweight flywheel and clutch, lightweight underdriven pulleys , headers and lightweight driveshaft if this helps anyone

I've heard people single turbo the na, is that too much of a headache? I have a 93 convertible and want more power. Thought about ls swapping it but if the single turbo would be the cheaper option I'd go for that

Selin is definitely not stage one(about 600-800 in cost depending), but on an NA it's a guaranteed 15hp bump to healthy NAs and even more to TTs. Back pressure is BAD. We do not want back pressure. Back pressure is the INABILITY to remove gasses from the exhaust. This thought process needs to DIE. We want scavenging and VELOCITY. The faster the exhaust moves the better it can evacuate gases from the exhaust. Manifolds don't really add anything to HP. They do improve the looks of the engine bay however. Stillen claimed 22hp gains when they introduced the NA header, but it was never proven and to date no one has dyno tested it alone. Even I didn't dyno my car before putting on manifolds. Stillen never provided any dyno charts or proof, but said it would provide gains. Reasons you need a tune on the NA. Adding anything that frees up air in/out of the motor will cause the air fuel to lean out. You'll go from 12-13 stock to 15= on the dyno with just breather mods. This causes a loss in power and puts at risk of detonation from it running so lean. We need an ECU tune whether it be chip or dyno to dial the fuel back into normal levels. Our ECU does NOT auto adjust when it sees new air... that's part of why we gain HP running the Selin mod. The ECU however will bump up around 15-25hp depending on engine and mods. I can not recommend regrinds on cams. If you want to upgrade cams then get new cams. That is definitely stage 3 w/e on the NA.

Hey Pharaoh! Going to be for sound tuning mostly if you just delete the OEM mufflers from the OEM exhaust, I had a muffler delete on my 350z, check out the video where I measure the sound with a decibel meter. Also Z1 has a straight pipe option for the 300zx if you want a muffler delete with out moding the OEM exhaust (I think DannyZ has it on his 300zx) Going to be much louder, I was at a 94 decibel just at idle and would go over 100 decibel on cold start on the 350z.

It doesn't really give you much of a gain in power at all but the SOUND!!! I replaced mine with two K2 Motors duel, flared 3" outlets 2.5 inlet and just cut and clamp using some size adapters and exhaust U clamps. I would suggest having them actually welded on but I plan on changing them out pretty often to test sound differences so im just going to stick with the clamps until I find what sounds best. Cheap and easy.

Yeah I think most just go straight for the Turbo option since it is so plentiful for this car.

@1:14 I cant recommend AGAINST a cone/pod filter hard enough. The factory airbox is way way better. K&N or similar panel filters are good. I tried various after market air filters including enclosed cone, open cone and extending lower down to move away from the MAF etc etc. Across 8 years drifting my NA VG30. The standard air box can't be beaten. Deleting the resonators is a good idea. I just welded a plate over the metal plates.

Although I have currently switched to a cone K&N with adapter plate for my NA 95' and I also do agree that their is not noticably if any power gain at all and maybe even a slight loss by itself but with the addition of plenum spacer, exhaust, ECU, and some small vampiric deletes it definitely opens the system up some especially in the mid to high range.

@@SoloKyoto hi mark. Couple of quick questions if you are ok sharing? When you say plenum spacer. Do you have any info on this for VG? I have one on my brother's VQ35de which is in his R33 drift car. Its a big improvement for sure. But I've not heard of it being done on VG. If they are available I'd love to try one!.... Other question. I've worked on UKDM 300zx turbo models and I own JDM import NA cars and have had TT engines in the past. You mentioned your car is a "95". Did nissan vary the engines in America? The UKDM, JDM and EUDM cars didn't have any differences to the engine I know of (other than the PTU, S1/2 stuff of course but that's all electronic). No mention of lightweight pulleys? Also, you just can't replace/flash ECU's on '94+ cars. You'll need a piggyback setup, no? And, you could consider lightweight wheels to reduce unsprung weight. Lightweight flywheel...

its an aluminum throttle body so dont use anything too agressive. Youre fine using some brake parts cleaner and some cloth. you can always remove them for easier cleaning

It's all the same. Every manifold out there is a copy of Stillen at this point. Escort had long tube headers at one point but they're NLA and were never cloned.
