I had the opposite problem. I only shopped secondhand with my parents, so when I did go clothes shopping as a teenager I was super anxious about prices and felt completely unprepared for shopping with other kids.

The only reason why I'm slightly anti-school uniforms is because I grew up watching those US teen movies with the classic no uniform rule where everyone just wears casual clothing and whatnot. I always felt jealous, and while nowadays I don't really care that much compared to before, I still wanna say that I love being able to not need a school uniform anymore in my new school. edit, i am now in college, and was forced to revert back to the need for uniforms rule.

I'm not in the "I need to look cool" phase, I'm in the "I need to use shoes but I only want to use crocs" phase

I agree with you, James. Kids should pick out their clothes. They shouldn't have to wear what their parents want them to wear. They usually pick clothes that their kids don't want to wear, and that's not okay. That's why kids should have the right to wear whatever they want.

I’m honestly happy to buy clothes at Goodwill. Although my sense of style is….minimal (aka,may not have the clothing I want) my creative mind can use a basic whatever & turn into my style! I’m proud to not only buy from goodwill, but also donate it to those who need!❤

I love going to goodwill for the strange trinkets and plushies. They sell the most random stuff there and it’s all so good. As you said you never know what your going to get and every time you go in it’s a different experience

In middle school I never really went through the “trying to be cool phase” I mostly just base stuff off of “let’s try not to look like a complete mess”

I don't think I ever had an "I-need-to-look-cool" phase, I am basically since early childhood in "I-need-to-look-unobtrusive" mode and refuse to wear T-shirts with big branding. The biggest one I have is the PUMA logo constructed out of circles, which I think has artistical value and so it doesn't bother me as much as all those flashy colours.

i remember watching this video back in 7th grade and back then i always wanted the gucci & supreme shirts because everyone thought they looked cool and after watching this video and james said "you don't need to buy expensive clothing to look cool because you're in 7th grade" that comment resonated with me so much that I don't even try to look cool, i just buy whatever i think is cool ever since skull 💀👍 so literally morally of the story is do whatever you think is cool and don't try to impress others too much
