Those are absolutely incredible!! Green stalks are so versatile and you just showcased that with your beautiful plants!! I have a small yard, pure sand soil, and mobility issues. I have been scoping out those planters for over a year and I am now completely sold on them!! And your soil recipe is pure gold, clearly!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!

I'm SO close to getting a greenstalk. I've been thinking about it for a couple years. One thing is I'm not sure if I will like the 'overgrown' look 🤔 . Although my raised garden beds certainly take on a 'jungle' look by the end of the season. 😁

Seems like a waste of soil for all those pots that are stacked and most of the soils covered up. It seems like the center area could be shaped in a way to be plastic to the top and just the cupped planting area only for soil. That would save soil and the weight of it.
@dustyflats3832
@dustyflats3832 5 месяцев назад
That is a huge issue with them. It would not be useful for me and as I age I’m not lifting those layers😂.

From what I’ve seen on other channels, the roots of the plants typically make full use of all the soil. I can’t imagine how often you’d have to water if the only available soil was in the pockets. The plants probably wouldn’t have enough nutrients either. It’s basically a tiny pot at that point. I don’t have one or plan to get one, but I see why they’re designed that way.
@SoilandMargaritas

Actually these are the perfect size for all the 6 plants that one could plant here, they are not for everyone but they are perfect for me, I am having great results with them so far.
@roslynholcomb
@roslynholcomb 5 месяцев назад
@@emkn1479yes. I assume the roots take up all the soil. I probably couldn’t lift one with my arthritis but I still plan to get at least one because my space is so small.
@hmfoden
@hmfoden 5 месяцев назад
@@roslynholcomb some people choose to fill them with soil after the planter has been assembled. Fill as much as you can, water it and after a few times watering the soil will settle and you can top it up to get a good fill without the heavy lifting. They can be staked through the centre to withstand high winds if that’s an issue , and tarped or burlapped over in winter so you don’t have to dis-assemble it either.

Yeah! Now it does eat up soil, BUT each year just top soil up and add nutrients. You can do this for a few years. It all depends on what's sucking up the nutrients .The spinners are a game changer also.❤️

Big learning curve for greenstalk gardening for me. Mostly I just wanted to grow strawberries, but some didn't make it, so I filled the empty spots with onions, carrots, and lettuce. I don't have as much sun yet as I thought I would where I put it, so this is really a learning year. Yours look so lush, so I'm holding out hope. (Maryland, Zone 7)

We will see how the strawberries do for me, and yes, they require a little bit of adapting I think, mostly on the watering.
@dustyflats3832
@dustyflats3832 5 месяцев назад
For me I don’t think I could utilize these tower planters. For gardeners with limited space or maybe for herbs. I know I wouldn’t want to take it apart every year and strawberries wouldn’t winter over in them. I could also see them tipping over in high wind and hopefully not on someone. It’s just not for me. Miniature plants are best I think for these towers and Renee’s Garden Seeds has many seeds for miniatures.

I am on my 5th year with Greenstalks. We live in a flat, windy, exposed area. I make sure they are absolutely level in order to have even watering. Also, the Greenstalks have stayed upright in 60+ mph winds. It took 80 mph wind to blow over 2 of them. I now use the wheeled bases to move them closer to the house in bad weather.

I am just wondering if there is a reason you don't grow your own marigolds? I find they grow very fast and germinate really well and know you grow lots of your own seedlings.
@SoilandMargaritas
@SoilandMargaritas 5 месяцев назад
I do have a reason, just a matter of space.. I mentioned I don't really mind grabbing a couple of flats of marigolds because I rather use the space and the time to grow something from seed I can''t find locally, like a flat of nasturtiums or a flat of specialty celosia, if I didn't have access to marigolds locally I would definitely be starting them from seed.
