This is the second episode of my series BX Basics. Here we will go over in great detail the basics of the front end loader including removal and installation. Plus, we'll get down under the tractor to show you how the mid mount mower connects and a way to make taking it off and putting back on MUCH EASIER.

Excellent series for us BX owners. Your explanation and video angles for working with the mower deck is the best I’ve seen. A big thank you.

Good morning Sam! I would say that your BX Basic series is very helpful to everyone and especially for those that are thinking of a subcompact tractor and others that are fairly new to the tractor world. In addition to lowering the bucket to the ground and releasing the hydraulic pressure when parking the tractor ensure that the bucket edge is flat along the ground and not pointing upwards. This will protect anyone walking by the front of the tractor from getting their ankle or leg cut / injured by the front edge of the bucket. That was a much easier way to remove and reattach the loader. Have a good one!

Thank you Paul! And very good point about the bucket edge. That thing is an ankle biter, for sure! 🤠👍

My friend, that was the best and most complete video I have seen on the mower and loader (I'm a BX fanboy so I've watched a lot). Truly and excellent piece of work. I really appreciate how you outlined the pitfalls, especially with the loader. Thanks very much. Still feel like a jerk about the spark plugs comment 😂.

Thanks for doing these videos, very helpful for new tractor owners. I’ve heard that running your loader at low rpm can damage the hydraulic pump? Not sure if that’s true or not, wondering if you know about that. Thanks. Oh and your digging video was awesome! Loader beats a shovel any day!

Thank you very much. I've run my loader at low rpms in several scenarios where I needed more control. Never had a problem. Use high rpms when you're digging into a pile for more oomph 🤠👍

Thanks, good video. Not sure if you have any 3-pt attachments/implements other than the rear ballast, but I hope you do a video on attaching 3-pt equipment. I struggle with it almost every time! I know there is that quick attach system, but my pto shafts were set without that, and may not fit properly with the quick attach system....thanks again for the great video!

I bought my quick hitch after I had my roto-tiller....with the quick hitch installed, the PTO shaft is too short, and it would come apart. I bought a PTO extension that's supposed to go on the back of the tractor, but I put it on the Roto-Tiller instead, so its always on the tiller, pretty much permanently as I have no need to remove the adapter. Lengthened the PTO shaft to correct the length issue from the quick hitch install. Some implements are quick hitch compatible, many aren't so its kind of one of those things where you end up finding out after you get the implement usually whether it works or not. One thing that pisses me off with the Kubota (Land Pride) Quick Hitch is the top hook isn't adjustable, and for the ridiculous price that the dealer wants for that quick hitch that top hook should be adjustable....many times that is one thing that keeps an implement from working with a quick hitch, another is the lower pin spacing. I recently bought a ballast box, not quick hitch compatible....why, IDK, but its a stupid thing to have a ballast box and not be quick hitch compatible, not sure how many people can lift 500+ pounds on their own, but that's what you are gonna have to figure out without a quick hitch that is adjustable enough to accommodate variances in pin locations and spacing. I bought a cheaper quick hitch that has an adjustable top hook, and it works great with the ballast box, and other implements I have as well. To me its easier to swap the quick hitch than it is to fuss with trying to hook the 3 point directly up to an implement LOL. I also have the adjustable stabilizer bars for the lower hitch arms, those turnbuckles are a pain, and waste of time. To adjust the lower hitch arms I pull 2 pins, get the arms where I want them, put the pins in and done, no fussing with the turn buckles.

I thank you for this but as I never had a mower deck with my BX I put the BXxpanded protective under armor on with no problem. I took it off to do some service and maintenance work and it stayed off for quite awhile and when I needed to do some land clearing I went to put it back on and the adjustment knob was almost impossible to turn by hand and I sort of had to force push the plate high enough to lock in the pins. Do you have any idea on that problem. I only have 200 hours on my BX and it's 3 years old and in mint condition and want to keep it that way.

I have not had that experience. I hate to think something may have bent? The height adjustment knob parts can be seen underneath the tractor just below the left side of the seat. I would get down and take a look at it while someone else tries to turn it. See if it's hitting somewhere. I hope this helps 🤠👍

@@samsdoinstuff Thanks and I will try that. I do have to say that these little tractors are nothing short of amazing.

So, the adjustment knob is weird. It only works when you raise the 3pt all the way up, then only clockwise. On the numbers, it lifts the 3pt and the mower. If you turn it to Top, it disengages the mower and only moves the 3pt. My land is pretty level, so I do a lot without removing the mower deck. Also, you want to raise your skid plate and set it at Top so it stays up in place while you are working.

@@craigguinn5423 Thanks! I'm pretty sure that was my problem. I did not have my rear blade when I first put the BXxpanded Armor plate on so my 3 point was in the up position and the knob turned easily. I bought and mounted the rear blade and I'm pretty sure it was on the ground when I tried to turn the knob. The only time I take the plate off is when I do service underneath. I have a big zero turn mower and will never mow grass with a tractor again because once you go zero turn you will never go back

You should mention the normal way of removing the mower deck, as its not that hard. While the deck is still connected to the tractor, raise the deck, and each anti-scalp wheel on the mower deck, has a pin and clip pull the pin/clip turn the wheel 90 degrees replace the pin/clip, then lower the deck, pull the front attachment brackets off, pull the 2 rear pins to release the deck, pull the PTO shaft off, and turn the front wheels of the tractor slightly to the left, roll the deck out from under the tractor, there isn't a struggle, the deck rolls very easily on those anti-scalp wheels when you turn them parallel to the mower deck....I've seen people try to drag them out without turning the wheels sideways LOL. The mower deck height adjustment I think is the worst part of the whole design....mine I have to mess with the linkage on the left side of the tractor to get it to lock in the TOP position every time I use the mower, and then remove it. I've tried adjusting it and it don't make any difference what I do. Wish they would have just built it as a floating deck where it just rolls on the ground and height is adjusted with bushings on each wheel. The BX is kind of a Swiss Army Knife it can do everything a big tractor can, just slower, and not nearly as good as a dedicated machine for the task, but it'll do tractor stuff LOL. Love my BX2680. I have the same 60" mid mount mower, it does a great job mowing, and I'm glad I didn't go with the drive over system as it further reduces your ground clearance, and the drive over decks don't raise up as high either. I think I'll get a zero turn for next year, yeah the mower deck is great, but I'd rather just mow the lawn rather than spend 15 minutes putting the mower deck on, and then having to take it back off. The entry door where I keep the tractor isn't wide enough to allow me to keep the deck installed ugg. I have the BXpanded skid plate as well. Works great, easy to install and remove. Its on anytime the mower deck isn't installed.

Thanks Bill! Yes, the way you described is what they recommend for removing the mmm. Not too complicated but definitely takes time. I can mow my whole front yard with my ZTR in the time it takes to mess with putting the deck back on. Under armor is a must have. Best $75 I've spent 🤠👍
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 5 месяцев назад
@@samsdoinstuff What size deck is on your ZTR? I'm trying to decide between a 42" deck like my lawn tractor had, or go up to a 48". I can get either on the Kubota Z200 series. I only have an acre to mow, and while I can do everything with the Kubota, its just kind of annoying having to install and remove the deck all the time as it won't fit in the shop with the deck on because the doorway isn't wide enough....yet. Don't know when I'll have the extra $$$ to get the materials to rebuild that opening and the doors....and I think a zero turn would be nice since I have the Kubota now, I really don't need a lawn/garden tractor. If I remember next time I install my mower I'll try and install it like you demonstrated in this video.

@wildbill23c I have about 5+ acres of lawn and fields to mow so I went with a 72" deck. My mowing time went from 4.5 hours to 1.5!!!
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 5 месяцев назад
@@samsdoinstuff Thanks Sam. Slightly different sizes of properties but I still think a zero turn would work great for my yard too, and quicker than a lawn/garden tractor and the Kubota....even with the 60" deck on the Kubota it takes the same amount of time to mow as it did with my lawn tractor with the 42" deck.
