As Rochester and Strood prepares itself for a by-election, after Mark Reckless' defection to UKIP, we take a look at the certain type of vote throughout the ages.
A by-election is to be held in the constituency of Rochester and Strood, Kent, on 20 November after sitting Conservative MP Mark Reckless defected to UKIP.
He will be standing for UKIP, whilst local councillor Kelly Tolhurst will stand for the Tories.
The Conservative defection of Douglas Carswelll to UKIP also sparked a by-election in Clacton-on-sea earlier in the year, which he won to become the first elected UKIP MP.
But it has not just been 2014 that has been rocked by these votes.
