When vanlife meets...Eurovision! Sort of. This week we escape the UK and drive our little campervan across Europe, travelling to Malmö in Sweden, all for the Eurovision Song Contest! This vlog focuses on our journey there, as we drive across six countries and see places in Europe we've never experienced before...except, mostly, this video is a whole lot of not seeing, and a whole lot of driving, motorways, endless nattering (sorry), and well...we're not sure what. Let's just say the adventure begins next week! Wow, we're really selling this aren't we?! Anyway, if you've got the patience, join us as we start our new European road trip!

The reality of travelling around is sometimes it is the boring bits but we are all still clearly here for the banter you two provide us with along the way! I've not watched the Eurovision for years but have done this time around because I know you will have been there so looking forward to the vlog next week 🙂

Aww thank you Jo, yep it can't all be exploring and adventure otherwise we'd be a) knackered out, and b) broke! 😂 God knows what we've managed to film this week, a lot didn't go to plan and of course we watched the final out the way of it all in the end (for so many reasons, partly to save money) but we have loved it here and hopefully it shows the city in full Eurovision mode if nothing else ❤️🤞

Another great video your videos aren’t boring. I watch you because I like the van life part, I like seeing where you’ve park up. never feel like your everyday life is boring to your viewers because it’s not you are our eyes, that sounds creepy what I mean by that is I don’t have a problem seeing the every day parts where you’re parked up the banter between you both the cups of tea and sandwiches because I want feel like I’m on the journey with you keep up the good work,😁

Thank you Gary, really happy you enjoyed the video and what was in it, we were a bit worried about this one! Stephen did amazingly well with the driving and adjusting to the "wrong side" AND so many different countries (which thankfully weren't too different from each other). Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden by far the nicest to drive in so far!

Thank you Paul 🤗 The bridge was really impressive, so surreal driving over the sea like that! And that wasn't even the longest bridge, we bypassed that one to catch a ferry instead as the bridge cost £100 one way for us 😬🙈 The one in the video was about £30 to cross, so still a lot. We are getting a ferry back to Germany as it cuts all of that out and is somehow cheaper 🤷‍♂️ The other side of the road, well for Stephen he's adapted really well and you soon get into the swing of things. It feels normal very quickly thankfully, the only tricky bit is driving onto motorways as we have to look through the mirror on my side (the left side) but it's mostly fine. Thanks Paul ❤️ 😊

Thank you Dione! ❤️ Oh the 2nd semi was definitely the strongest overall. Also because we got to see Italy perform too who we both loved. It was only a dress rehearsal we saw (but it was exactly the same as the live show) but honestly it meant everything to us! We've decided to try to save for final tickets for next year instead fingers crossed 🤞 As for the video who knows what's going to be in it, not everything went to plan 😂 I hope it still manages to be capture the spirit somehow, and of course there's non-Eurovision bits in there too. As for who we wanted to win...I think we were both rooting for Ireland in the end! But very happy with Switzerland 🇨🇭 Really thought Croatia were going to nab it though! Did you watch? It was a fab show 😁❤️

@comealongdear I finally saw the whole show! It wasn't quite the same this year as I usually watch with my very Eurovision fan daughter. Oh that's a shame, hopefully you get chance to watch it with her again in future years! It's definitely more fun when you watch with someone who really enjoys it. Sweden (and the Swedes!) is lovely, we're tempted to stay longer

You went to Eurovision! Fantastic! Can't wait to see next week's vlog. Not sure I could even afford even the semifinal tickets though. I'll just have to wait until the next time the UK wins and at least I'll save on the travel! Although, I've got a nagging feeling that there's a flaw in that plan somewhere! 🤔🙃 Also, you don't need to worry about any language barrier. You're British, damnit! If Johnny Foreigner doesn't understand you the first time, then just say it louder! 😉😂

Thanks Ewan, not sure how next week is going to look because we ended up meeting some people we knew at the semi final so ended up not filming much of that 🤦‍♂️ And with the final we decided to stay out of the way in the end so that wasn't exciting to show either 🤣 But we had a great time and hopefully we've showcased some of the atmosphere in the city. I think we're going to aim to get final tickets next year, which means saving now...especially being in Switzerland 😬🙈 The semi dress rehearsal tickets cost us £40 each for seats with a reasonable view so not bad and you could get them even cheaper than that. I think the live semi finals there were good deals too but we were a little late for that. It's just the final that's a lot more! Haha it seems impossible sometimes that we'd win because we're always a bit rubbish, but anything can happen, we came 2nd two years ago, and Switzerland won this year and haven't won since Celine Dion. Anything is possible 😆 We are very lucky in Sweden as everyone speaks English, and actually seem to enjoy doing so weirdly enough!

I like your 🎶but I am watching on TV with big stereo. Steve has had a beard trim and looks much more holiday maker than grumpy labourer. 😄 I live in Australia so the thought of passing through so many countries and cultures quickly is 🤯 to me. After Eurovision it will be more of a travelogue I guess or will it be madness and mayhem.🤪Looking forward to whatever. 👍

I think after this it should be more self-contained "we're going here" type videos but nothing is certain! We've planned almost nothing 😂 😬 Yes, although we only passed through, the rapid change of language and rules etc was a headache, definitely nicer to linger somewhere so you've got time to adapt! Hmm he did need the beard trim he said, but I think the grumpy labourer look is better 😉😁

Hope you enjoyed your eurovision experience! You must stop off and see us in Tervuren, Belgium on your way home. There's a great park and arboretum plus an African museum with lots of history attached to it. Only a bus ride into leuven or a tram into Brussels. Don't miss out!

We do feel incredibly grateful to be doing this, it was a big risk to go off in a van but, 2 and a half years later, we know we made the right choice, as we've created so many memories in a short space of time. And let's face it, life and time is short so we are lucky to experience this while we can. It won't be forever (living in a van) but for now we are happy with the choice ❤️ Haha no UK is still in Eurovision, we are what's known as one of the "Big 5", countries that automatically qualify for the final as we put a lot of money into it. You don't need to be in the EU, just a member of EBU (European Broadcasting Union) which is why we can have countries you might not necessarily expect in the competition (Georgia, Azerbaijan etc). We supported Ireland but very happy with the Swiss win too 😀

A river, park and a Woolworths I'll have you know 😉 They'd have bucket loads of coaches coming here from the UK if people knew...and then quickly realise they never missed Woolworths after all. Christ that flippin low emission zone. No issue with them but it was so ridiculously hard to avoid, I think a fine or jail would've been less stressful 🤣 Thank you! 😍❤️🥂

We do have to pinch ourselves to make sure we're not dreaming sometimes, although living in this clapped out tiny space isn't a dream for many I expect 😂 And then we pinch ourselves again much harder when we wonder if we'll be broke by the end of it! 😬🤣 Can't wait for Germany! Think we'll probably have to avoid most big cities though, but you never know!

When you arrive back from 🇪🇺, the poverty of the 🇬🇧 will slap you both in the face. I travel to 🇵🇱 ( best kept secret in Europe), they have a C&A in Warsawa.👍

It will be interesting to see Sweden, as my daughter lives there. I do enjoy your content, though I do not like music while you are talking; it is very distracting. Also, it is very loud when you are driving or just showing scenery. Cheers. Jon in rural BC, Canada

Hi Jon, sorry that you're not a fan of the music. I feel like we have to put it over scenery, but perhaps it could be toned down slightly. With the speaking parts, sometimes I put it in if it feels like the talking goes on too long (which it so often does) and hope that it helps speed things along, but maybe that doesn't work 🤣 Interesting about your daughter, unfortunately we're not staying too long, but we do plan to explore some of the beaches around here before we leave, we've heard about a particularly good one not far from Malmö 🤞😍 Cheers for watching 👍

But then, I also put on the captioning, as bad as RU-vid's is, I can catch something I miss. And sometimes the captioning is so bad, it makes me laugh. Sorry, sometimes I'm just a grumpy old man. Not grumpy at all, no need to apologise, it's good to hear different viewpoints! Oh god the captions...I believe we can actually do them ourselves so they're more accurate but I dread to think how long that would take 😬🙈 I might look into it though as it could be easier than it seems!

NOT an event that has the slightest interest for me, Thankfully and one that has grown progressively more Political and less wholesome and Relevant as the decades have rolled by.. BUT YOU two enjoy your trip.

Oh it's definitely marmite. I have always defended the political angle from certain areas (e.g the classic "no one votes for the UK because Europe hates us", forgetting that as soon as we send a good song, we do well and nearly won recently!) And the fact the variety of winners has been so varied in the last 10 years. There has always been some politics of course, some neighbourly voting (which rarely effects the overall result), but sadly recent big events have meant the competition really has been affected by other factors, and I don't see that ending next year. Luckily, the last couple of winners have been very separate to that so I think it'll continue as normal, just with some added...problems at the moment. We did enjoy being here and I think at heart most of us just want to enjoy a silly contest without all the other factors creeping in

I'm glad you enjoyed it, from the little i couldn't avoid, it seems our entry, "Nill Puncte" was based on being controversial rather than of winning quality. I think you underplay the political aspect though, since the influx of ex eastern european nations we have been a target. Other than that I have always thought it a second rate event

Thanks, I think everyone - including fans - are just grateful the madness is only once a year (apart from if you follow National Finals in individual countries, then that's a whole other story 😂)
