Finally have the dash cover in undercoating and it looks good. C10, C20, C30. #withme Check out my website at hdsquarebody.com/ Check out my new Merch at hdsquarebody.c...
You took the time and put the effort into it and it looks pretty good. Im not trying to dis the job you did, I dont care for the rough texture. That has to be hard to clean. If you do this again, you might think about using spray on bed liner instead of undercoating. It drys harder and much smoother. Its almost exactly like the factory finish. And you can color coat over the top. With a good coat of flat clear, it comes out perfect. That being said, I still think you did a great job and good video. Thanks.
I did the same thing here while back for my frankentruck. It did not turn out very well (I'm a perfectionist I guess you could say) I've got another dash im gonna try again soon. I think I'm gonna use bed liner as a dash cover
I’m just now seeing your question sorry. Honestly I didn’t like the texture and never installed it. The center of it did crack but I don’t know if it’s from application error or from setting on a shelf waiting to be used.
You remind me of my dad's friends i watch them do just what you are doing and it's really cool because im that much older and you are doing a good job keep up the good work that's old school stuff thank you for bringing back memories
Ilove Hotrods I’m assuming your talking about stitches in the Upholstery work? If so I would think you need to razor blade or cut them out somehow and fiberglass and build the cut out areas back up.
If anything I think that you were too far away with your spray. I would suggest several coats of clear on thorp of what you have. My fear is that it will be almost impossible to keep clean. Check out SprayWayCustoms. He sprayed bed liner on the dash after his repairs then several color coats.
Doing a 76 now. Mine is really brittle and cracks nearly every time I move it. Fill, sand, fill, sand. I'm just hoping they aren't visible after spray-on bed liner is sprayed on. I did a mix of fiberglass glass resin, sand, bondo, sand. Spraying it soon maybe today.. Great video!
I made mine look near perfect. I was proud as hell and put it in the truck. It was great for about a week and then the cracking started. I'm sure the 20s in the night to 50s in the daytime temp swings didn't help but either way mine looked as good as yours and spent hours upon hours filling, sanding, repeat before finishing. I'm going to take it out again, sand smooth again (even swelled up in spots like bubbling???) Try coverage lightly with something more flexible and considering trying thinning out that glue 3000 or shoe goop, foam paintbrush tabbing it for texture (thinning so it's not gloppy) and the spray it with 3m undercoating. If it comes out like crap, throwing in the towel and spending the big bucks for a new one
