Yup.. Happened to me this past winter. 2 AM wake up call to the garage with the horn blaring. Pulled the fuse temporarily. The next day I watched your video and ordered the part. Long story short. You saved me about $740. Thank you!
Just watched the membrane replacement vid from 8 years ago. Here's a line from one viewer's comment: "Makes me wonder if this guy (Lyle) was a pro just brought in to make this video." Lyle 'liked' it. Make no mistake, It really IS a good instructional video. And BTW, Lyle you actually look better today. Don't know how you pulled that off.
Lmao! I gave a small toot toot to a guy who gave me a thumbs up. THE HORNS STUCK! My daughter was in a phone store and thought I was joking! (I do that kind of thing) I pulled around into a big box store parking lot to find and pull the fuse under the hood. A guy came by to see if my daughter was ok! What!? Lyle! I then went on your website and order a new horn membrane from your store. The site is so easy to navigate I had no issues getting what I wanted. I dissasembled and reassembled everything no sweat. Hey Lyle, an old video clip showed up when I was looking for something about a replacement I was doing. It put a smile on my mug. If anything, the video clips have really improved over the older stuff. But the content has always been just what's needed to help resolve issues. Thanks for your content. I'm stubborn, but without your help on my Vett, I would have thrown in the towel on the confounding things that were going on with my car. Corvette repair shops are few and far between where I live. Keep up the good work!
Never had that problem, as I ripped out the stock steering wheel and airbags long long ago. I installed one of those grant quick dis-connect steering wheels and horn button. Glad to see you guys are making and supplying parts for us C5 guys though.
If you have a c6 horn not working and a “service charging system” on the dash it’s because the alternator excite voltage goes through the horn. If the horn gets wet and blows the fuse the alternator quits working.
Great video guys like always, got a question for you and I guessing here is already answer it. is about the VATS in the C5 sometimes put the key in the ignition and no engine start, only see this flashing signal in the DIC saying Security like for about 10 minutes, very annoying. Any answer will be appreciated and keep up the good work.
I bought my C5 with 142K miles and everything worked when I bought the car except for two things. One was the air conditioning didn't blow cold air. I didn't really care much because my car is a convertible so the top down is all the air conditioning I wanted anyway. The other thing that didn't work was the horn. I clicked on this video thinking I was going to find out how to fix my horn not working. Instead I learned that I don't want to fix my horn because no horn is better than a possessed horn that needs a young priest and an old priest ;-)
after seeing a bunch of pretty sketchy do it yourself attempts at cobbling together this part from blood pressure cuffs, and other assorted stuff, I bought one of these parts as insurance against having to build my own, just in case this part ever become unobtanable again. I once experienced a car in a densely apartment packed neighborhood , parked on the street, with an alarm that went whacky. I guess the guy had a very good battery because it went off for about two days and nights solid. Cops said they couldn't tow it and apparently the owner was gone for the week end. Last time I walked by the car, it had been extensively egged and had a 2x4 through a window,
Thank you. I do have a question and I value your opinion. I retired and moved to Florida. I lived in a big city my whole life and gave up driving since 1998. I love Corvettes since I first saw one was about 5 years old. I'm 68 now. My question is, should I buy a c5 2003-2004 now after all these years? Love to have an automatic. New cars are full of too much electronics. As I say like driving a new cell phone. I want a reliable car, great sound system, low upkeep, cheap insurance. Want to cruise Florida, visit my relatives and friends, and you of course. I have to renew my driver's license first. I need to get around now. Your opinion is Greatly appreciated. Maybe a zo6, hmmmmmm.
Oil change. I have a C5. Got it 3 years ago with 37,000 miles. Now I'm at 52,000. Last year I changed the oil on Veteran's Day for free (thank you Jiffy Lube. I provided the M,obil 1. This year, after going 2,000 + miles, I got my free Veteran's Day oil change. They now say they have to use their own oil. The free oil change cost $90). My question. When Mobil 1 first came out, if I remember right, they said 12 months of 24,000 miles. Did I just waste my money by changing my oil? The Vette computer said I had 80% left before my oil change.
While you cannot really trust the "Oil Life" assessment that your Corvette makes (# of starts plus average trip distance), I think that you can easily get 3000-4000 miles out of an oil change with no down side. We recommend changing oil every 2-3 years at a minimum, but modern synthetics can last a lot longer than that in most case. The manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals are a bit like shampoo directions (rinse and repeat)---they are there, in part, to drive sales. So, yes, you probably did spend money that you didn't need to spend this time, but you will be wiser next time! Lyle :)
My horn on my C6 works on and off and sounds like it's dying, sometimes it doesn't work at all. What do you think is the issue? think it's the same as the c5
@@tyronemorina4306 The fuse panel is on the LH side of the dash and has a door on it with a twist latch. Locate the horns on front frame rails of you r car and put 12v to each of them to make sure they are functional. If so, then it is either your horn relay under the RH dash or your horn contacts behind the horn buttons. Lyle
@@nachosilva3777 Engine bay Fuse box. If your is blown, check the Horn and make sure your horn membrane at the steering wheel is not damage. Mine appear get stock on and burn out my horn, I was not at home when that happened. The car hace two horn, High tone horn and a low Tone horn.
