Pop ups look cool when they're opening, and when they're closing. They also tend to have maintenance issues. That said, I love my '00 C5 vert, 133,000 miles, all original headlight hardware EXCEPT bulbs

C6 zo6 is the best out of the 5,6,7.... It might not be the fastest, but it always puts a smile on your face.... That naturally aspirated 7.0 V8 is legendary

If you are a shallow dude like me, the C5 will attract the ladies on the cheap. I bought a high mileage but immaculate ‘01 C5 coupe for $5k last year. Cheap enough that I just bought liability only insurance. After putting another 11,000 miles on it, I just sold it for $5,800. Great car, I did nothing but oil changes.

@@Toys4Life Look at the C-5’s over 180,000 miles. Not much of a market for them. Mine had 196k miles when I bought it. They are out there. Best to approach sellers who have had car for sale over 30 days. Reality sets in eventually.

@@label1877 100% agree, if you want the lowest price C5 those are two of the best tactics. For some reason I just don't see very many if any in the Minnesota area. I'm sure they happen once in awhile, but I try to keep a pulse on it and I rarely see them with over 120k miles.

Had both. Trust me, you may THINK you like the C5 interior more, but to me it looked like a Grand Am. I agree that the steering wheel in the C6 sucks, but overall, it is a much nicer place to be than my '00. As far as the exterior, purely subjective. I don't think there's any comparison. C6 is gorgeous at any angle, unless there's a C7 nearby.

C5 owner here. Totally agree on the bubble butt. I think the C5 would look great with the C6 backend. Some small rear spoilers seem to help offset the bubble butt and give the C5 more of a C6 appearance IMHO.

In the C5, a big man is comfortable. In the C6, it is a tighter area. Don't get caught in the C6 if the battery dies and you don't know how to pull the escape cable, you can't get out of the doors (only the hatch door). The big flaw in both cars, you can't rotate the tires (smaller tires in front). Give me a good mechanic and access to reasonable priced parts and the C5 wins hands down.

Hahahaha yeah that battery dying thing ain’t no joke😂 except it died when I was outside of the car in below freezing temperatures in the middle of nowhere. Had to use the manual trunk release and crawl in from the hatch to get out of the wind while I waited for help. I’m 6’7 as well don’t know how I didn’t break anything😂

They both are awesome cars, i have both, a C5 yellow 2000 convertible and a C6 Grey 2005 convertible, love both cars, every new type is different than the older one, with more new and better equipment thats a normal thing,.....love youre vette anyway, it doesn't matter what C type you have,...it's a Corvette,..a Legend!!

I'm partial overall to the C5 as well but I do agree that the C6's rear end looks better. I've only begun a search for a C5 (fingers crossed my significant other says yes) but it has been hard so far finding non-Z06, manual transmission, Z51-equipped coupes. Heck it's hard finding manual coupes never mind ones with Z51. The ones I do find have completely unrealistic prices (thanks dealers! Seriously, stop trading in your beautiful Vettes to these greedy dealers). The hunt goes on...

I've had both and now have another C5. C5 handles better, C6 has steering wheel audio controls, C5 has flip-up headlights, C6 has a better center/armrest console. I like the simplicity of the C5 but the C6 is more comfy. I prefer the C7 over both, but love my C5.

cheaper to get c5 plus you could upgrade the engine with money you had left from buying a c6 , also 04 is the last year having self engine Diagnostics built in , C6 was cheaply made . targa top makes noises plus the head lamps on a c6 really do cost $1200. a set

I have a c6 and my dad had a c5. Driving both. I’d say if you want power and more head turning looks get the c6, looks more “exotic”. but the c5s interior I prefer because it looks old and it knows it’s old so it rocks it. The c6 interior try’s to look new but it’s stuck in a old age still, doesn’t look amazing. C6 for sure if you have the cash though

The C6 is a better looking Corvette to me. But the C5 is much cheaper to buy. In comparison Z06 to Z06 the C6 is double the cost.

You missed a couple things in your analysis. The rear compartment of the C5 is somewhat larger, which makes it more practical for traveling. The C5 coupe is also the lowest cd (coefficient of drag) at .29 vs the C6 coupe at about .31. That combined with some other factors means the C5 generally gets better mileage than the C6. I still own a 2001 I bought new with about 52k miles now. I also own a 2011 GS with about 32k miles. The C5 is much tighter, with no squeaks or rattles, while the top on my C6 "pops" and "snaps" and drives me wild. There is a service bulletin on it, but Chevy dealers refuse to do anything. I find the C5 more enjoyable to drive, although the C6 is definitely quicker with the LS3. You are correct that they are both "winners" and great values, but I do not believe the C6 was a big improvement over the C5; while the C5 was a huge improvement over the C4 (I had one of those too).

Id still say fun for the moneys worth a c5 z06 is the hardest to beat. All the pros to the c5s and the ability to beat ls3 c6s hang with c7s in performance. Over all looks and tightness c5s hold up well and the frc is a timeless look that should have been transferred to the c6 and c7.

@@gabrielcollazo6835 you obviously know nothing of what a good driver can do in cars like the c5 and c6 z06's. Record bonestock for both a c7 grand sport and c5 z in a 1/4 is 11.72. Both cars run similar times on road coarses. For the normal owner a c5 z is known to be the best start for road racing due to how it drives. Some owners own both c5 and c7 z06's but built the c5 to race for less than the cost of the c7 and now turn faster laps.

C5 is a full bodied voluptuous model like Anna Nichole Smith. C6 is a tight, sporty fitness model, complete with a few lines reminiscent of the gorgeous C2 coupe. C6 is what C5 should’ve been all along- pop up’s would’ve been nice though.

Well folks, maybe I’m different or just weird…but I like ALL Corvettes, however rite now (retired/disabled Vietnam/Cold War Vet w/limited income), I’m really leaning toward a nice, medium miles C5. Thinking a purchase price of $15-20k, then I will try to gradually do things to it like add a nice Supercharger, then put some forged lower parts in, then heads, cam, headers, trans, etc. Sort of my plan to try these in stages, so I don’t have to drop a big wad of cash all at once. Also, I dont want my wife to tell me “It’s either the car….or me”. I would really miss her.

C5 hands down and not just because that's what I have. I have never, EVER liked the exposed headlights. Partly because of the years of the traditional pop up lights, but mostly from knowing that the headlight covers would fog and discolor over time. I do love my C5, but if I wanted to buy a newer model in the future, I'd jump straight to the C7.

Chris Griffith I do like my C5, and I've never had any problems with the lights (other than a new high beam switch on the column). But in all fairness, The C1s did start it all, with exposed headlights.

@@carguy76ia2 , that is a valid point. I very much like all in the Corvette series. I suppose you become more accustom to the style you grew up seeing. Actually the biggest difference I've noticed in my years of owning Corvettes is the overwhelming difference in the ride between the C4 and C5. When I told a friend that I was considering trading my C4 for C5, he told me to make my deal before I drove the C5. When I asked why, he said that if I drove it first, I would buy it regardless of the deal. He was 100% correct :-)

Chris Griffith Haha. Yeah, I'm used to seeing the pop up headlights too, but I sure wish I had a '62. As far as C4 to C5 ride... I don't get the full C5 ride experience. Mine is a Z06. The ride is pretty firm, but damn it feels solid in the corners.

Ur wrong about the back ends, the c5 rear end and general design is far better looking, it's a classic pininfarina design, same people who design Ferraris, the c6 was done in-house and it definitely just looks like a more cartoonish version of the c5 pininfarina Classic

Had C5 for 9 years and now a C6 GS for 4 1/2 years. The C5 was a good car, but the C6 is a better car. The C6 changed more over it's life more than the C5 did. The steering wheel you showed was in the early models and did change. Pop up headlights look dated now at days,, while the C6 headlight are more modern. Plus the C5 headlights are terrible at night, I have flashlights that are brighter than them. Just like the C5 is a better car than the C4, the C6 is a better car than the C5, and the C7 is better than the C6. Most people are going to be bias for the model they have, but how many would trade up to the next model if it was an even trade.

Joe L just think the c5 looks better from every point of view. Even if the c6 is a better car. Personally I think the c7 is the ugliest vetted ever. Maybe its better than a c6 but I'd rather be seen in the c5 more than the other 2.

Stole a 2007 C6 off craigslist this past Feburary. I looked for 8 months, trying to find the right one. And I started out looking specifically for the C5 and the pop up headlights. Now, I LOVE the C6. Even sitting in the garage, it looks like its moving.

I read in a magazine once the performance per dollar, the C5 Corvette is the best in the world 173 miles per hour top speed low 13 1/4 mile --- close to 1 g in a corner and will get you more ass than a toilet seat

I own a ‘01 convertible and I agree with his analysis. Love the C6 rear end but the front of the C5 is timeless and more critical to overall appearance.

I like all vettes but the c5 is just a rugged better built car. Couple grand in the engine and c6 and c7 drivers are blown away when I leave them easily way behind.. Great car!

Laughable you can spend 10k+ on a c5. Heads,cam,exhaust, suspension weight reduction etc. And get shit on all day by a 100% bone stock c6 z06

Gabriel Collazo nah, with all that done a C5 will take a C6 Z06, there is only a ~150 hp difference from the factory, and the LS responds well to mods. Especially after a weight reduction? I had all those things done to my C5 (99’ frc) heads cam long tubes borla exhaust intake manifolds air intake injectors etc, 1/8 mile times beat a C6 Z06’s professional driver times by half a second. Also had an ‘02 Z06. They are all great cars. Looked into a C6 Z, the handling was very squirrelly in the early ones, but high limits. Great brakes also. Down low torque was disappointing for a 7.0

@@dr.lyleevans6915 only a 150hp diff.. there ia a huge diff, its lower, wider, better center of gravity, brakes etc. Full h/c ls6 make 450-480hp on avg. That 10-30hp more than a stock c6z. Given the better gears in the c6 i rarely ever see a c5z beat a stock c6z

Gabriel Collazo what do you mean by better gears? (Genuinely asking). Like the rear end gear (3.42, 3.73) or the actual transmission gear ratios are better (I assume closer)? My C5s gears were spaced really far apart, especially the hrc. If I remember, 4,5, and 6 were all overdrive (4th was 1:1) 1st took me almost to 60 so your probably correct. The Z06 only slightly better. It was well suited to the power delivery and drivability but maybe not quite the fastest. I think the weight on C5 and C6 are similar, I don’t think gear spacing could overcome say a 50+ hp advantage. Here, power curve and torque do come in to play. I am simply talking from experience as I had the same mods you mentioned without the weight savings and handily outperformed what a professional driver had done in the C6 Z06. This takes nothing away from that car mind you

@@dr.lyleevans6915 i wouldnt say 50+ since a c6z on avg dynos 450whp. The power curve and 400lbs of torque at 3krpm close the gap. Ive raced a handful of h/c c5z when my c6z was stock and all of them lost by 1-2cars. A few vids on youtube with the same fate. Comes down to drivers race withing .5 sec as specs are similar. Now a h/c c6z like all c6z owners that race have make built c5z look like prius.

I'm going for a 92-96 C4. Easy to find under $7k with way less than 100k miles. The C5 is my favorite Corvette of all time. Mechanically, neither the C5 or C6 are incredibly hard to work on. A C5 with a nice cam and exhaust will top a stock C6.

C4 was very good, but for not much more you can get a C5 which I believe to be a huge leap. No hate towards the C4, just a big evolutionary jump - IMO!

@@Toys4Life That is true. I used to work at a Corvette specialty performance shop and I really enjoyed working on the C5. Very easy car to own and live with. I mean, the only real issue we dealt with were bad knock sensors and burnt front turn signal bulb sockets. Excellent car. But, I think that's why the C5s around here have so many more miles than the C4s. I just found a nice 1993 C4 with 64k miles for $6500obo. Amazingly, we swapped a 6-litre LS into a C4 and it was amazingly easy. If a C5 popps up, before I get the C4, with the right mileage and price, I will jump on it.

I have and love my C5. I was never really interested in the C6 or C7 well not enough to sell my 5 for one of those. But with the C8 coming soon I will definitely have a C5 and C8 in my garage by 2022.

I am with you. I dont think I will sell the c5 though, it is not worth much and it is still awesome and will be a different experience than the C8. I pray GM does it rignt ! I am hoping to buy a used 2022 model in 2025. That is the plan anyway.. Good Luck!

I prefer the C5 from every angle. It has more elegance than the C6, and flows seamlessly as you walk around it. Granted, the C6 is more contemporary in its design and moves with the times as it should. It is edgier, the side by side profile shows this very well, but I love how uninterrupted the light plays down the entire length of the C5. Hands down, for me it is the one I would look back at as I walked away from parking it and drool at. (freeze frame at 2:31 and take some time to compare) That is why it is 1st on my list of my 1st American car, 1st Corvette wish list. Love American muscle. (old school NZ rev-head)

it is a tough choice. I put over 200k miles in 2 Z06 c5's with Maggie and commute with my C6 Z06 with eforce 200 mi round trip almost daily. The C5 seemed easier to drive. I am not quite sure why maybe visibility out the sides and rear and the c6 felt more planted although I think had a shorter wheelbase...strange but true.

I have a C5, and owned a C2, and C3 back a while. I really like my C5. The LS1 is so nice. Like you, I think about a C6, but I'm really unhappy with the headlights. I think the C7 is insane...anxious for the C8....honestly...I want at least one of all of them...I've been a corvette nut since I was 8 and saw a brand new C3 1978 pace car. You know the one black on silver, and then got the poster of all of them...and thus began my obsession with corvettes. Just the greatest car ever. My buddy has a C4, and early problems...but ups and downs like them all. Corvette is just the greatest...Just my opinion.

I was looking to get the C5. The C5 hood looks way bigger than the C6 because of the pop head lights. C5 and C6 are both great cars. But the rear end of the C6 really does does it for me. It makes the car look very fast. The C6 has a timeless design. I’ll go for the C6

I own a c4 and c5 before I bought the c5 I couldn't decide to go with c5 or c6 I know the c6 has more power but there was something about the torch red convertible c5 I get compliments all day in it but I really like the c7 the most.

Have to disagree. I own a C5; I think the rear end of the C6 blows it out the water and some days I regret buying the c5 over the c6 because of that sexy rear end. But fortunately, I’m gearing up to buy a C7 which is the absolute hands down most beautiful Vette ever. My neighbor has one and I’m jealous every single day.

I think the interior of the C6 is slightly better than the C5's. But the C5's body is much, much more beautiful. I still absolutely love the pop ups.

I am with you. The pop ups look so sleek when down (and keep the lights clean) and when they are up it is night time and you don't really see them anyway. C6 lights get dingy, foggy and old looking after a few years..

Great video not only because of your choice, it was the content and photo shots you selected to use, as you may have figured I own a C5 2000 coupe Dark Bowling Green, auto trans with 23 thousand mile. . When I was shopping for this car I could have purchase a new one off the lot, I came to a decision that how much performance can you really use and need for a daily driver, after testing a C5 and a C6 the C5 did not perform as good as the C6 at the top end, however from 0 to 85 which is normal in every day driving on the freeway of Southern California they were really close there was really no advantage between models. Now there is a significant price difference when look for a corvette with less than 30 thousand miles. I personal preference went to the C5 for its low stretched appearance and those unsightly head light on the C6 made it easy. With the money I saved on the C5 I put wider wheel and tires with stock appearance a K&N cold air induction and Magna flow cat-back exhaust and still had money to take my first road trip to Las Vegas, with the top off at night going down the strip heads were turning. Again thanks for the great video.

Have owned them both, However, the C6s are gone still have the C5. The interior on the C6 looks like it came out of other GM car. The steering wheel reminds me of what GM did in 1975 when they installed a Vega steering wheel. Corvette has always had an interior that was corvette only. I hate the two large A/C vent of the C6. What I love of the C5 interior is that it reminds me a little of the C2. C7? Let not even go there. It's not always about HP!

I get compliments on my C5 everyday compared to the C6 that flat but on the C6 is not attractive and the interior of the C6 is not as comfortable as the C5. the big bubble butt of the C5 is the sexiest rear-end especially with the spoiler I have added it flows nicely you cannot put a nice spoiler on a C6 it just doesn't go

Buy a C5 and forge the motor and buy a second hand supercharger kit. You can put down 625 hp to the wheels easily and still pay less than a C6 base. Plus my girlfriends love the c5 more than the c6

4 years later, I'd bet you'd rather stick with a C5. Other than a performance gain, the C5 looks are aging better, and the performance gain isn't anything to boast about now that the C7 and C8 are out.

I've had both, and prefer the looks of the C5. For what you save buying a C5 you can easily get a different rear bumper cover that's more to your liking - if you choose to.

Keep your c 5 and go ahead and go with a C6. I turned out being an amateur collector because when I got a C5 I didn't want to get rid of my C4 and I already had a C3. And wouldn't you know it, the whole number then came into effect. 81, 91, 01.. So I had to get rid of the wife and get a 71, Now I'm saving up my money for a 21..😎

Good move my man... You probably get more love from your Corvettes and a good dog than you would your wife... I have a C3 1970 roadster convertible hardtop... 350 350 horsepower 11 to 1 compression l46 engine... With a 4-speed Rock Crusher transmission... Few years back I did restoration mechanically everything was done... And new paint and most of the interior... Because of the high compression of the 11 to 1 compression ratio I chose not to rebuild the old 350... I did keep the original l46 engine... But I dropped in a crate engine from GM... It has the same 350 block it is called a zz430 430, with aluminum fast burn heads Aluminum Intake and a 750 double pumper Holley... It's rated at 430 to 450 horsepower and 430 to 450 foot pounds of torque... plus it runs on 92 octane Shell gas... It was originally a a crate racing engine that you could buy from Chevrolet... It is a beast... And the old 350 was not a slacker by any means... It was just 20 horsepower less than the LT1 of that era... Anyway I bought it when I was just turn 21 years of age... so I've had it for 40 years... Sometimes I think about selling it and getting a more late model 1 that I don't have to worry about getting the paint chipped and finding somebody who really knows how to work on the older Corvettes... I wish I had the finances to do what you were doing two and a half a dozen of them LOL. The guy that restored it died of a heart attack... And I never saw him do anything without a torque wrench LOL. Complete attention to detail... Any other guy that I know that could work on them retired... I think it would be nice to buy a C5 or C6 since I'm from the Midwest with a manual gearbox and just drive the Route 66 to the ocean... That's on the bucket list thanks for listening... I fell in love with the C5 back in 2001 when my friend's dad brought home a brand new convertible. I prefer the targa roof. And also like the C6 when it debuted at the NY auto show in 04. I'm just gonna build my engine and drop it into whichever one I come across.

Bought a 102,000 mile 2000 for 12K. Spent 5K on a forged motor and 8.5 K on a F1A system with flip drive. I have 979 at the rear wheels if I want it with a 3 inch pulley. 805 with the 4.0. I pretty much roast any car that wants it including any new hellcat or c7 zo6 and I did it for under 30k. C6 differential swaps and suspension parts bolt right up to the C5. You can build your 4l60E with $1300 with kit from dana at probuilt transmission.A little more for hardened shafts and you are good to 1200 hp.

We are really talking about 4 cars with 4 different engines: LS1 C5 LS6 C5-z06 LS2 (05 C6) LS3 (08 C6) It's a lot harder to decide between a C5zo6 and an LS2 C6.

@Matt Brad Yeah, its tough cause I want to autocross it and do some road rally stuff with the wife, plus do the usual stuff (intake, exhaust, headers, LED lights, etc.) I feel like it's silly to do too much cosmetically to a C5 and it's silly to subject a nice C6 to being beat on. I can afford a C6 LS3 or even an LS3 Grandsport but I could do a C5 z06 or an LS2 in cash.

I have a C6 and just bought a '96 Collectors Edition...I love both. The C4 was what I remember as a kid. I love every generation and I suppose the C7 & 8 will grow on me??? The C6 really started to feel more like a sports car in the cockpit IMO. Everything just feels tighter and closer, but not cramped. I'd have to disagree on giving the interior to the C5 for that reason.

Forgot price wise too .. Depending the budget .Clean c5 low miles maybe 21k to 23k.C6 low miles maybe 32k to 36k. That can be a game changer .Personally you can never go wrong between c5 c6 both are awesome .

Only thing wrong with the C5 interiors that were shown is the presence of the automatic transmission. Corvettes should have a manual trans (just my opinion);)

When you say the C5 is more aerodynamic the base C6 narrow body has a drag coefficient of .28 while the ZO6 pushes it up to .34 the C5 is .29 so yeah your right but also wrong

Wow I can't believe so many people prefer a c5 over a c6. Imo c6's are hands down better at everything! I had a base 2011 c6 and loved it. Sold it to buy land to start a business. Then ended up missing a vette and bought a 2010 zr1 3zr package. Will never sell the zr1. Btw you can easily fix the c6 head lights. I did it myself on my base c6

The C5 is more of a raw sports car. Lighter, put together better, less accessories, and there is really very little difference in power character characteristics. They are also far more problems with the C6 motor in general compared to the C5.

Tom Brooks not really. If you compare a base c5 to base c6 or a c5 z06 to a c6 z06 there is almost no weight difference but the c6 model will be much faster and handle better. And the only real issues I've heard with the ls's are the ls7 with valve issues. Overall the ls's are very reliable and make great power. Thats why you see people ls swapping everything. You may personally prefer the c5's but the c6's are a better car on or off the track.

Let's not kid ourselves a c5 looks a thousand times better than the c6 better front better back aerodynamic smooth and immaculate. The c6 look like it's wearing glasses and braces.. you got sexy versus saucy... I'm going for the Whopper not the krystal

@@Ab-re7pv no player here real deal just a matter of opinion I'll take the c5 any day over the c6 I like pop-up headlights not sealed headlights on that particular car and that particular model

I wouldn't buy a C6 specifically because of the Cobalt steering wheel. This might sound dumb to some people but having owned a Cobalt I could never look past this detail. Besides it being in a Cobalt it's not comfortable for daily driving and is really only suited for "maybe" a track day. The c5 is open at bottom dead center which allows a very nice comfortable grip when cruising. The Cobalt steering wheel never allowed for a comfortable relaxed grip because of the center spoke always being in the way. Not only this but if you rest your hand on top of the air bag space "which you shouldn't do" but found myself doing it, the plastic above the steering wheel controls are oddly kinda sharp.

Recently had a chance to choose either a c5 or c6 and after 2 months of thinking about it I loved the c5 better something about those pop up headlights
