This video shows a patient with C6 Neurologic Weakness Post Nerve Root Decompression. I explain how a C6 nerve root compression can be mistaken for a C8 nerve root compression. More importantly, I want you to see how neurologic weakness varies from other forms of weakness.
The Saunders Cervical Traction device is my favorite for treating this:

Helpful video, thank you Paul! Did you ever come across a spinal neck condition in which the weather played a critical role? I feel great weakness in my arms in the past several years. However, my condition is hardly noticeable during the cold winter and totally unbearable during the hot summer. Cervical MRI showed: Minimal disc bulge C4-C5, no other bulges/issues. EMG test: A problem with the nerve conduction from the C6-C7 vertebrae. I feel no pain in the neck. Thanks!

Awesome video,… but is there a video of how to treat it for us who might be suffering from it?

I have a question. I had 2 levels operated at C 4-5 and C 5-6 with artificial disk replacements at both levels. I'm 37. I however had 2 lower herniations not corrected and one upper one not corrected. They said if was too severe for PT or injections to be effective. After surgery I also went to PT. I did very well for the most part although I fell once and developed thoracic outlet syndrome and a frozen shoulder. My luck. Again I mostly healed from all this with PT. Here it is now I'm having some burning pain along the sides of my lower neck/ upper shoulder area and significant arm weakness on both sides of my arms. I made an appointment for an evaluation. I'm also doing therapy exercises, traction exercises for the neck, shoulder and arm strengthening at home.. I'm not sure it's helpful, maybe temporarily for 30 minutes afterwards. The left side worse. Prior to my surgery the nerve pain was noticeably worse however I'm still worried. The nerve pain did go away after surgery (6 weeks afterwards) and now I feel I'm set back 3 years later. It may be another disk that is getting worse but I don't know.

What type of doctor do I see for left side weakness/numbness. Head to toe. But I’m so annoyed by how significantly weaker my left arm and hand continue to become over time. (I don’t know why. My current doctors have completely ignored this when I brought it up. Even after saying my left side of my body does not work like my right side) I assume this is nerve issues. Every so often I’ll have some issues with my right arm. But it’s mostly my left. It’s so anxiety inducing! I have a feeling it’s not going to get better by trying to lift heavy things. My range of motion in arm/hand is just different. Doesn’t feel like it’s fully my arm or hand. But no idea who I’m supposed to see for this. My neurologist tried to say I was fine even when I showed him my head won’t fully turn on that side. I can’t move my hip like my right side. He was weird. Couldn’t believe he just ignored me when it’s such an issue for me. Cardiologist actually didn’t say a word and started talking about something else. PCP said she had absolutely no idea what to tell me and to ask one of the specialists 🤦🏻‍♀️ So who do I see?

Please see the following. Does this sound more like a brain issue or something like you are speaking of in the video? History, extreme fatigue for well over a year. Maybe two years... About 4 or 5 months ago, I had an "episode" where my left side went hot, numb, and tingling in the upper body. I got dizzy and felt like I would pass out. I wasn't able to do fine motor skills with my left hand. That all passed within a few minutes, but I had lingering left arm weakness for a few days. Happened in a much lighter version a couple more times. Also, I have started getting episodes of what I call kind of like upper peripheral vision wavy lines or kaleidoscope type vision. Only happens to one eye at a time per episode, but has happened with both eyes at different times. Oh and I have developed intermittent vertigo that will last for days at a time. Now, yesterday is what made me join this group. I went outside to walk my dog, and my right side, from the top of my head down to my hip, became hot, numb like, and tingling. I instantly felt loss of fine motor use in the right hand. It wasn't complete loss, but super super weak. The numbness and tingling left within a few minutes from my head and body. However, the right hand was completely unable to do any fine motor skills, such as type, open or close a door, or pick up small objects for over 4 hours. It got worse at times, like my hand would not want to open and wanted to remained curled. But once it started to pass, it was completely resolved within an hour.

Hello.. I had the problem of c6 nerve root compression.. it started with severe neck pain and shoulder pain on right hand side 6 months back. I took some neuro medicines and pain went away in 7-10 days but I still have numbness in my index finger, although I am doing some exercises at home but still the numbness is there. Can you please suggest ?

Hello - I'm sorry - I thought the demo in the video was of POST-SURGICAL weakness, so I was wondering which surgery would there be left to do after that, since you say she required surgery to get better. There was a surgical decompression, and then weakness after that, and was there then a second surgery to resolve the weakness ? Thanks

I just recently had issues with C6 and C7. It was agonizing for a few weeks, but is finally getting better. It has been about 4 weeks since the incident, and I still have a little bit of numbness in my middle, index and thumb fingers. I also have weakness in my triceps muscle. My question is... will this weakness in my muscle eventually go away (assuming the nerve is no longer compressed), or is it permanent?
@OrthoEvalPal
@OrthoEvalPal 3 года назад
Great question Mark! If the compression is off, it can take 1-1.5 years to respond. Best of luck!

@markbennett1237
@markbennett1237 2 года назад
@@keithosburn7097 just a little numbness still in my finger and thumb, but it doesn’t bother me. It’s constant. Doesn’t get better or worse. The pain in my arm is completely gone, but I believe my tricep muscles in this arm is weaker than my other arm. Even though it is the dominant arm.
