Nice video.... retro vibes thru my veins and memories. Now I am tempted to build one... that is how you know you have made a good video! thanks for sharing.
Wonder how many of the chips can you find modern replacements for? Ideally I'd like all the chips perhaps except the SID to just be reimplemented in modern PLA chips. Either you can use you own or there's always the armSID reimplementation which imho is quite nice. I mean is anything lost using modern replacements? I think not. Preferably also an HDMI output. Many TVs these days don't have neither composite nor s-video input. Of course you can always get an external converter with all the drawback that those pocess. Having reimplemented the VIC-II chip in a modern PLA you can always get a pixel perfect output for HDMI. I still might buy the board and a case though. I wonder if it's possible to find a new keyboard as well. Well I one C64 with a dying sid chip and repaired case which can always be a doner but I'd think its much more fun to build it completely with modern replacement parts - and leave the other C64 alone perhaps except a recap and swap in an armSID.
I also own the Ultimate 64 Elite. Except for adding your own SID chips (or hardware equivalents), it's FPGA based. I will eventually do a video review on this board. In short, it's frickn' awesome :) The Ultimate 64 Elite: ultimate64.com/Ultimate-64-Elite
@@amigaretro4765 And yeah I meant FPGA :D I've heard about the board but it's sold out. Not sure when/if it'll be in stock. Sure looking forward to a video on it! Can't decide whether to just go for the Reloaded or The C64. I have the Mini but to be honest it lacks a lot be desired. Way to few USB ports and with keyboard keys are not always where to be expected. The fullsize is in that respect much better. Oh well. My next thing to buy is a video -> HDMI converter as I have Megadrive I haven't used in a long time. Lets see if that has acceptable quality - that can be the tipping point of just going for the reloaded or wait to see if the Ultimate gets made again. Video converters are not that expensive on AliExpress although I'm unsure if they can add black bars for 4:3 format. Not seen any having switch for that.
By the way. One really big downside about The C64 fullsize - still no socket for expansion ports. I have a few cartridges along with (locally) very desireable Hugo and Guldkorn Ekspressen. They just perform a lot better on cartridge than on a cracked flopy version which need to load constantly. Not found any cartridge dump for them yet.

Sadly buying chips off eBay doesn't save machines .. the price of the chips sold individually makes it more profitable to strip working machines for components than sell whole.
