A rather pedestrian (sorry, we were stuck behind a stopper!) trip from Hither Green into Orpington, via Grove Park and Chislehurst. This is part of a longer journey from Hither Green to Woking, which will be uploaded in sections
Trip down memory lane for me, HG box was still manned for the MPD and yards after London Bridge came into operation if memory serves me right. I remember as a lad going into work with me dad and getting to clamber all over the three HA's in the bit of the fuel lane that lingered there for many many years, exterior a bit faded but mechanically they were kept in good order til they were whisked away to first Stewarts Lane, then with others was moved on down to Eastleigh for dismantling, my late father felt a pang as he sent them through at Wimbledon A shortly before he was called to London Bridge power box as he remembered them from his time at HG. It was extremely useful having the old man on early turn at LB, if I had overslept or my train to Waterloo had been cancelled at Grove Park, I would pick up P3's signal fone, quick word with the oppo to put me father on the blower and he would stop the next up fast Hastings for me on P2 so could get a cheeky SR rate cup of tea in the buffet to warm the cockles :D
Interesting, I'm not to familiar with that part of the world so nice to see it unfold. Give me a buzz if you're down my neck of the woods now we can meet up outdoors.
I enjoyed the video as well, on a section of line that I'm very familiar with (along with the stop-start journeys!). Right at the end, is the orange coloured train in ORP platform 1 a SWL class 707? I've heard stories about South-Eastern acquiring some of these for a while, but this would be the first evidence I've seen of anything happening. Must admit I'd prefer to keep the class 465s because of the more comfortable seating.
Many thanks! Interesting territory not an area I know we’ll at all. It was interesting to see the larger (ex rotary converter) 33kV to 750V substation. The modern equipment must make the insides of these original building look cavernous! Is it a comfortable ride in your Tamper? It seems very noisy over the point-work? Also…can I still hear the ‘flat’ on one of the wheels? Thanks again for sharing your work with us…I always enjoy the trips. Best wishes, Rob In Bournemouth.
Not many people know that the fast bypass at St Johns is built on the old Medway/Kent sidings that were attached to Hither Green marshalling yard. Consists were marshalled and loaded up to be deposited there to await a fast engine to take the freight to Kent or for boat trains, think they were called the continental sidings.
The continental sidings were where the Grove Park Up Sidings are. The “Bestway” warehouse just after St Mildred’s Road (seen looming on the right at 4:15) is built on the widest span, with the entrance/exit to the yard originally coming out around the 6:00 mark. There was no major sidings near St Johns. The yard associated with the Continental Depot was the Bricklayers Arms, which diverted from the main line near Millwall football club
@@Shelfandtabletoplayouts00gauge My most recent videos are all on board on track machines. Feel free to watch others! The next video will hopefully be uploaded in a few days
@@emmo999 thankyou, I Checked out your videos, you've been busy! I think I may have seen one before perhaps. I'll certainly watch more....you can look around more at this speed😃 I bet you need sunglasses to see the signals against the sun.👍👍
1:47 for a moment I forgot the ex London Bridge area has been transferred to TBROC and was confused why they picked up... until I saw the TL on the signal! My memory’s failing me 🤦♀️
