Hello Everyone!
I am showing you how my cabbage plants are regrowing after harvest the cabbages. I learned that they will grow back to a small tennis ball size.
So I want to see as an experiment, they have grown to a pretty good size.
Thank you for watching!
Happy Gardening!

I’d prefer five or six smaller ones over one big one. Great job.

Awesome..You can actually also cut the Root into 3 to 5 or more pieces replant them and get 3 to 5 more cabbages per 1 cabbage...I learned that by experiment....God bless!!!

That was the first thing that came to mind...too many suckers sharing the same nutrients resulting in stunted growth! I would have planted each sucker separately. I love experiments like these!

I just learned to do that with pineapple. I cut the crown into 4 and there actually rooting. I was so excited to see that. I have a tone of them now. I’m definitely gonna try it with cabbage. Thanks ❤️

When does one get seeds from the cabbage

They also grow bigger too as they then each have their own roots.

Let it bolt in the late summer. Do not harvest the heads. You'll get seeds.

April 24 2023- Two weeks ago I discovered that a cabbage that I had in the fridge for some weeks had grown roots at the base. I know nothing about growing cabbage but I decided to stick the stem in a pot. Since then I’ve seen 4/5 miniature heads the size of thumbnails emerge. I came across this video this morning and now my questions have been answered. Thank you.

Ok, I'll weigh in: old farmers and share croppers knew this as the best eating! I was introduced to 'cabbage sprouts' (note: from many years of purchases, 'sprouts' in this video are the tender heads shown at 8 wks...would guess you could go to 10wks--larger than brussel sprouts but not heavy like the 12 wks shown) by the Association of Black Farmers at Eastern Mkt in Detroit about 25yrs ago. I make it a point to be first in line each Saturday from late Sept-late Nov. Folks, I'm guessing this was survival food (gleaned after required harvest...and I'm so grateful to the people in my heritage who did everything possible to feed their families). It is cheap to buy and, hands down, the best food I've ever put on my plate. It puts collards and cabbage to shame (that is: if your pot includes a little smoked turkey, a few garlic cloves, bit 'o onion, salt/pepper---it doesn't need a lot and definitely holds it's own!). I'd like to start a garden this year, but couldn't find info except micro greens...sigh. I'll pick mine at 8 wks for sure (10 max). Loved the great video. Hope you don't mind my comments, please support ALL farmers who work so very hard for us (I still plan to buy some from the farmers and freeze them---for they sell out quickly and I can't possibly grow enough to feed my family who are CRAZEE about them...lol)!! THANK YOU, your video is thoughtful, and beautifully done!!!

Thanks for your experiment and video. All of my cabbage stems have regrown after I deadheaded them to harvest, and they’re looking very lush now. I wasn’t sure if they’ll actually form heads, and now I know! Thank you so much for sharing. I was googling for information, and one article suggests that the cabbage formed in the 2nd crop are more tender and milder than the 1st crop. 😀

@@VavisGardentoKitchen it is still a good result getting the cabbages. Much better than pulling them out after the first harvest and starting from scratch. 👍

Should have weighed the initial harvest vs the regrowth. ^_^ I was curious if they regrow so this video satisfied my curiosity.

Interesting.. I know nothing about cabbages. I'm hoping you can answer questions for me. I was given an ornamental cabbage at the beginning of the winter. Beautiful. The person left the pot in my front garden, telling me that it was very hardy and would survive for a couple months. ! This is NY. We get frigid winters, and this one started immediately. After about three days outside in 16 degree nighttime temperatures, it finally dawned on me that the plant wouldn't survive. I hate to see beautiful plants die, so I brought it inside. It was already fully encased in ice. It thawed out and started dropping the biggest leaves. But the center flower stayed white and beautiful. I was amazed. I thought it would survive. The larger leaves continued dropping off, but I saw a bunch of pretty new growth at the center of the flower. I was looking forward to seeing how it would progress. I thought nothing of the dropping leaves, because I could see all the new growth. Then suddenly one morning I discovered the new growth had all wilted. More of the large leaves came off, revealing that the stem directly below the head was black and severely constricted. The stem just below the black area is swollen. Is this "black rot"? I'm assuming the swollen stem means the water the roots are pumping upward is blocked from reaching the leaves. Now keep in mind, I'm not growing cabbages for food. There are no other cabbages in the house to infect. Would this plant grow a new head of leaves if I cut off all the constricted, black stem? Is there any hope for this plant?
@VavisGardentoKitchen
@VavisGardentoKitchen Год назад
Sorry to hear your plant did not survive. I did not grow ornamental cabbage. The black spot, I’m thinking it may be rotting as it faced severe cold.

My first year growing cabbage. After i harvested, I left the outter leaves. Tonight i noticed two new heads forming. About the size of golf balls. Wish I had a longer growing season. Getting down to 39 tonight.
