In this video I visit my off grid cabin to do some upgrades and to spend some time fishing in the area.....only to find I have Bear Damage that needs to be fixed.
I love your wife and your videos. I am 77 years old, taking care of husband with dementia. Your videos help me to cope with this terrible disease that has struck us both. I can almost smell the camp fires, and food. Thank you for my escape, look forward to each and everyone of your videos. I go to your camp, cabin or tent. Be careful, be cautious and be healthy. God bless both you and your wife.
I live in the mountains of Japan, inside a national park here, and still you and Brooke’s excellent videos make me feel relaxed and longing for an even quieter life.
You're not kidding. I haven't watched Brooke and Dave's stuff for a while. Was in a real rotten mood before I started this video and have chilled right out.
Dave, I do appreciate your attitude. You are good at just taking things in stride! You didn’t freak out about the bear dismantling your outhouses, you even marveled at the strength the bear had. You put things back together with what you had and it worked. Keeping it simple and basic makes life much easier….too me anyways. I have a cabin in the woods north of Ely and enjoy the quiet simple living it offers. Not sure where you are at but would sure enjoy having a beer and a campfire with you sometime! Thanks for the videos, I appreciate you sharing!
It’s great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan’s ru-vid.comUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.
"Unwelcome mats," I love the name. I suggested it to a friend who was experiencing black bears breaking into his cabin in California, 30 years ago. They work great. We made them so that the nails only stick out and inch or less, so we don't do the bears any permanent harm.
I arrived at my my bolt hole here in the Welsh hills at lunchtime today, on the drive here I was thinking of you and Brooke and your delightful cabins at this location in this video. Im so pleased to see you enjoying them again. , Your videos inspired me to retire a year early and to get out and enjoy nature and all its joys. Luckily we don't have bears here, but there are supposed to be dragons here in Wales, but I've not seen any yet. Many thanks. David in Wales, UK.
@@Bushradical Yay!! I sure need more cabin therapy time!! Your videos are a balm to us sick/ injured folks stuck in town, or in bed. Right now, your videos are my place to decompress as I struggle to kick Influenza A. Stay Well!!
I love Northern MI. And spend as much time there as possible. The wife and oldest and youngest kids love it as well. (The middle kid, not so much😔) but our little paradise gives us a chance to recharge, relax, and just Commune with nature.
Its worth it dave inspired me. While I didnt build my cabin I still got one and its So amazing to just go up there and Relax and put around. WHEN you get to that point!!
@@Bushradical i love seeing a good, normal dude w/ real useful content being successful on here. even better, hes from the mitten!! thanks and take care!!
You and Brooke have my favorite relationship. "She wants to do some work on HER cabin on the other side of the property." I love how you two balance being supportive of one another and being independent. 💕
Cabin sure looks great, sir! I saw a bear crossing the road a couple of hundred feet ahead of us on one of my trips to Whitefish Point. My Dad used to watch the bears rummage through the trash piles near Copper Harbor many years ago ... Sure do love our UP :) Thanks for taking us along ... Enjoy! God Bless
Cant wait for your next project! i found this channel during Covid lock downs , and found your videos so relaxing , educational, fun that i couldnt stop watching if i ever came upon the opportunity to have my own spot of land ill build my own little cabin.
Well, this video solves the mystery of bears pooping in the woods. Thanks for sharing this video. Your cabin looks great and the four pavers will add a bit of thermal mass to retain heat. Wishing you and your lady a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
I just moved out to Oregon from Michigan, i lived there all my life, and i loved living up north of the lower peninsula and visiting the upper. Your videos are a huge inspiration for me and my bonnie lass to build our own home like you have, its been a life long dream of mine thus far. Also my grandpa had a wooden row boat we would row out on lake huron on for all my childhood- also we have the same boots! That made me all excited. Have a great day!
Dave, you have an excellent channel. I truly appreciate your ideas and teachings. Keep up the good work. Love the way you apply "KISS" to most of your projects.
Thank you Dave. I just sat down at my pc for lunch and saw your upload. To say im fortunate is an understatement. You are amazing man trust me there are MANY people you inspire. PS. IF you are going to build anymore Bushradical knifes I would LOVE to get one. I cant say I would use it all the time but I would Love it EVERY DAY.
I built my first cabin by watching your videos. Specifically the red and black one. I made mine 13x12 with a lot of salvaged materials from garage sales and construction sites. Less than $2000 total investment! And I referenced your video several times while in the process of building. 3 day build. Never built ANYTHING before.
I did the same thing! Only my wood was free dunnage at my job. 12x10 it has about 330 2x4’s wall studs are 4x4 . Never built anything in my life. But Dave and Brook inspired me to do so. I think Dave’s comment building the black and red cabin was “everyone needs to build something”. Wow so true. Enjoy your cabin.
I really enjoy the pace and simplicity of your videos. Just what I need. Thank you. The guitar music you play also sets just the right mood. Hope y’all have happy holidays!
I love watching your videos Dave they're so awesome to see you out in the wilderness my dad used to take us camping and we loved it with fish on the creeks and just catch whatever we could and thank God mom always brought stuff to cook just in case we didn't catch fish so God bless you and Brooke enjoy the video
Next spring I'll start on my retirement 🚖 cabin in the forest of southern Oregon on my 2.4 acres am 62 but will do a little everyday till I get the job done. Biggest headache is the permits. Thanks for the video, Mike
I live in SW Florida, this place used to be a nature lovers paradise; then 25yrs happened & it wasn't the home we once knew. The absolute peace & serenity of nature is what's lost here & when we watch your videos we get to reacquaint ourselves w/it again... THIS is the channel you watch when you live in the city... 💯👌 Happy Holidays 🎄❄️⛄
Love your videos, and how beautifully perfect you and Brooke are together. Thanks for everything you've taught us about how to survive in not so comfortable situations. Invaluable info! 👍
BR is one of my favorite channels - the videography, the narration, the background music, Dave and Brooke efforts and stories plus the premise of being out and away from the madness that social life are so beneficial to well being.
I am a retired construction worker due to a spinal injury and lots of health issues I have to live in the city but I am living my dream by watching your video. LOL
I keep a large assortment of hand tools, nails and screws at my cabin AT ALL TIMES! You never know when you will have to make some repairs "hint" you always need to make some repairs ;)
I never thought I’d find it relaxing watching a video on bear damage to an outhouse (bears scare the heck outta me), but here I am, watching your video. Thanks. And happy anniversary at your cabin!
The world could use a lot more patience like Dave has… bear tears apart outhouse and Dave remarks about bear strength and how nice it is to have bears around. Thanks for the perspective.
Freakishly strong, love that description. My wife ask me "how did that bear do that?" I told her that bears are "stupid strong." LOL Also appreciate you mentioning Pike. Some people in Canada call Pike trash fish, I personally love the taste of Pike, and the Y-bones do not bother me at all. Enjoy your videos, thanx for sharing.😃
Another great video and just what I needed today! It keeps my wife and I motivated to watch your videos, Brooke's too. Hope you are both doing well and God bless you!
You’ve got amazing style with your videos, a classic calming feeling comes with watching. Love it! Thanks for sharing! Can’t wait to start my cabin and eventually have my 1 year anniversary.
My one close encounter with a bear happened like 10 years ago, was trout fishing up at a river in Sequoia National Park. The bears there I think are more used to people then some areas and they do come thru the campsites there often. I was alone down a ways from the road fishing at one of the rivers in a spot that looked good. I heard the brush off a way to my left rustling and then I smelt it and knew it was a bear. I kept fishing and the bear came thru the brush into the clearing and came and sat down at the river bank like 6 feet from me. I looked over at him and said "hello Mr. Bear" and cast out again...he sat there watching me cast out for a few minutes , took a drink and then waddled off into the brush again. I think he was hoping I would catch something so he could steal it lol
Love the simple (albeit incredibly labor intensive) life! The doing nothing because you've done so much... its been such an awesome Fall! Great video as always!
Some of the best videos on RU-vid. Relaxing, informative, educational, and simply a joy to watch. I still remember my brief visit to Northern Michigan years ago and the immense sense of peace in the woods and region in general. If I had the opportunity to have a "do-over", I would have a retreat like this one to spend down time at and do so with my family. Thanks again for the great videos from you and your wife.
Enjoying my cabin too! Y’all inspired me to build one. I’ve added a deck to it as well. 12x10 cabin with a 12x8 deck. Solar and off the grid. Thanks Dave and Brooke.
Good to see you again Dave and it looks like the cabin has held-up well, not so much for the outhouse, but you got it hammered back together in no time, happy thanksgiving to Ya
I fished for decades with my dad on small trout lakes in Quebec with just a row boat. If the lake is no more than a couple miles, no need for a motor, and you’re right, it’s way more relaxing, quiet, and easy without having to mess with a motor. As for the bear, there’s two kinds. The ones that hang around, maybe come into camp or whatever, and they’re usually no problem. Then there’s the ones that raid your outhouse……those are the ones to worry about. Nothing that a poop eating bear won’t do! 😀
I really enjoy your videos. I always learn alot. I appreciate how you explain the process, how you show us ways to save money and still live our dream. Most of all...I appreciate the way you and Brook share your faith through prayer before you eat. Keep on blessing us with your videos!
I’m building a small cabin in Virginia, USA and I’m thinking how much I would enjoy a bear skin rug in my cabin 😡The bear has destroyed my tent, a large tub with tools, my chainsaw and plenty else. I never leave food but he/she seemed to want a taste of laundry detergent. Bugger! I wouldn’t harm him but I sure do fantasize about it sometimes! 😂❤️🙏
When do the bears hibernate? This is the first time I've seen bear activity on any of your properties and you did a great job repairing! Thanks for sharing!
@@Bushradical ooh, so they will be out and about for a bit longer. Good thing you left the outhouse door open..LOL! 😂😂 Hope they bypass Brooke's cabin!
I have enjoyed all the builds Dave accomplished so much so that I watched each and every cabin builds multiple times. Thanks, Dave for doing what you do best building cabins in the woods.
I enjoy your videos and appreciate how you always make the best use of what you have with a positive attitude. These posts bring me Much piece and great ideas for things I want to do! Thank you for your awesome videos Dave!
Your and Brook's dream's have always been mine also. So now that I have Pancreatic Cancer and know I'll never get to my dreams, at least I can watch and share in your's ,Thank you
Sorry about the bear damage. When you said "Steven Herrero," a shudder went thru me. That is THE GUY on all the bear attack documentaries I can't stop binge watching due to my fascination/fear of bears. Thank goodness we only have black bears in the upper midwest!
Thank goodness you put out a video I have been waiting and waiting and waiting thank you very much you made my day happy I haven’t watched it yet I just know it’s there that’s how excited I am.🎉
I always enjoy all of your videos I just love the sound of your voice your wife is very lucky she gets to hear it all the time I don’t know just the way that you talk it’s very soothing I just enjoy it and very good video thank you so very much
loved watching this build last year. Keep putting up vids brother. I just love your content! Gives most of us inspiration and drive to do things like this
Your narration reminds me of nature films of the 70s. They were informative and reflective and there was a sense of awe in the beauty of creation. Thanks.
Such peaceful down to earth content , love watching your videos to help me feel some peace in this topsy turvy world, thank you Dave and brooks. PS, just finished season 4 of alone and loved watching you guys build that amazing shelter! Stay radical
