Back in the 1980's there was a guy in my neighborhood that stuffed a built 472 into a late 1960's Impala. There wasn't anyone that could touch him. Talk about a sleeper....)
Me-2 I love-um is it the noise they make I think it was buckling the hood on my Old 66 GTO with the 68 Firebird Formal 400 HO motor under the hood? the old 1150 cfm's. On the old Police cars (BINGO)
I've had several 472 and 500 with parts from Larry at CMD for 86 jag xj6 swap 472 eldo and later th400. and plenty from these guys also for my Model A 500 th400 unreal low end and midrange . go caddy
be a nice engine in an old truck.where you dont have to rev it to the moon while pulling a load & trailer.i just wouldnt want to pay the fuel bill for such a setup.
Holy shit that torque curve is magnificent! Flat as a table top right off idle and over 500 all the way! You got that tune down to perfection! What is your total timing on this setup?
,,,,,owned and daily drove 472 cadds for 12 years......At the biker bar ; One yelled out to me ; Tommy Horse only guy with a cadillac that runs like a Chevelle.........Love to find a 1970-71 or 1972.....and build another ..........600 plus foot pounds........BTW,,,Only had one tranny failure thru all those years ,,,A broken sprag,,,,,,one way roller clutch.......Drove my car home in reverse gear ,,,,,, 7 miles.....in 1988 or so.....
Awesome video and info I used watch a lot of Cadillac's street racing in Fountain Ave and Hunts point in the Bronx and there where some bad ass Cadillac's back in the day with the original power plants they came with and you could get the performance parts to upgrade the the 472 the 425 and the 500
Torque correlates more to piston diameter than to stroke. The 472 has the same bore as the 500 so it should be very comparable in torque in most situations 😎👌
Better numbers than the GM crate 502. What a torque beast this is, as you say many overlook these Seen them in many pickups as a kid in the 70s. GUys if he makes his living this way he isnt going to hand you his cam specs...maybe sell you a cam?
I have a 1964 Chevy tilt cab 4500 and I have a 1974 500 Cadillac engine. I'm thinking about putting in it . Of course I'm going to figure out the drivetrain too run it at a lower RPM. What should I do if it was yours?
Hey Courtney, great video - thank you. Sir, I have a fresh rebuilt "stock" 472 in my 1972 Cadillac Sedan. It needs to be sharper off the mark and through its range. The base timing was set @ 8 degrees, I have gone near 12 degrees. Not a lot of change, but there's no pinging or engine knock, so could I wind up a bit more? or would 12 degrees be it? We run a 98 octane fuel here in Australia. Help appreciated. Cheers Courtney - Fletch, Classic Restos TV.
I don't understand why you would not list the parts used for this build (that you are trying to sell) in the description box. At least give us cam specs or your cam part # along with what octane fuel you used please...
How much of increase in HP is due to the 30 over ? I'm thinking, not much. The 10:1, the heads, the carb, cam are what give you the Power, right ? IDK, I just read and watch a LOT. That engine sounds great !
If it still has the factory rocker arms on it you don't want to be going much higher. They work fine on stock stuff but the stamped rockers dont play nice with the spring pressure needed for 6000rpm blasts.
