@@MKelly-gj1tu but then it would just end up being a Monty python sketch, with Cad threatening the comfy chair, and nothing but tea at 11 if he doesn't behave.
caduceus' line hits harder when you remember he literally described his job as *i remember the names of those who have gone.* cad looked at the gross wizard man told him, "i will not mourn you."
Exactly. Cad is a wonderful person - kind & empathetic - but he will not hesitate to destroy, or simply wipe from existence, anyone who hurts those he loves. Just look at his cold fury as he stalked the deck when Fjord was murdered at sea.
Remember that Cad was a character Tal pulled out of his bum during the panicked space between episodes 26 and 27. Yet he was exactly what the M9 needed.
Yes, especially after losing their moral compass, Molly. They needed someone to be unerringly wise, someone who would say the things the wisest people dare not, and on top of that, they needed a *real* healer.
@@bigdrew565 Talesin confirmed that he'd completely forgotten about a backup character and thought Cad up one weekend. I know the Nein weren't high enough level to have access to Divine Intervention at that point, but even so.
@@dysfunctionalcaterpillar790 actually, they were. Clerics get Divine Intervention at 5th level, I think. The % chance of course is only 5% so it's not bloody likely, but there you have it
@@petersenior5432 To my knowledge, Clerics only access Divine Intervention at 10th level. To quote: "At 10th level, you can call on your deity to intervene on your behalf...".
Yezza has 2 emotions with the nein around: 1. I'm ecstatic to have my wife back and to have all these wonderful people around💖 2. WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING OUR CHILD?!?!
Funny thing is that Percy would have said much the same thing to Ikithon. Though he would have said with much more bite and much less matter-of-fact. In fact, I can hear Percy starting it off like, "You poor, deluded fool. I used to have the same philosophy as you do. Then I met Vox Machina. They made me realize how wrong I was."
@@ForeverDegenerate Quite. This is why the debate would stay respectful between them both. They both want good for other people and genuinely disagree, philosophically, on how to get there. Still, fun debate... or between-team-rap-battle, whichever.
Eodwulf, scoffingly: "What are you supposed to be?" Caduceus: "Vegetarian." Scanlan can take a seat. We have someone who murdered with words alone. No spells needed.
@@baneofskolas2888 Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl Pound them up with a thumping pole And when you’re finished, if they are whole Send them down the hall to roll!
The closest I got in real life was at work when my coworker clocked in and to strike up a convo cause she looked kinda worn out I asked “long day?” to which she said “long month” and I trying to offer sympathy said “I feel that”. She then proceeded to go off on a rant about how I had no idea about the amount of shifts she had been working (which she took on by choice) and after her rant I calmly replied “if you don’t want my sympathy, you will have my indifference.” And proceeded to clock out without another word (it was the end of my shift).
„...respectfully.“ he says like he just didn’t burn this man worse than Caleb burned his parents 🔥 Also, Yasha and Beau will definitely be the two aunts who come by, bring Luc the best gifts and teach him swear words.
That's what makes Cad awesome. He means it, with zero malice implied. There was no doubt some anger there at the man who is behind his friend's misery, but Cad's words burn here because they are the truth, stated in kindness but without compromise. Trent is a fool, and having the majority of people too afraid to say it to his face doesn't change that.
I think Yasha would be about as respectful of a relative as you could hope for (around kids at least). Bringing Luc s gift like the bone harp would be pretty BA though. Beau is definitely teaching Luc swear words, probably in multiple languages. No, I think your true bad-influence-cool-aunt is definitely going to be Jester. I mean hell she IMMEDIATELY started describing Avocado after people were mentioning being careful with stories around Luc.
@@sodasaintcommentaries4054 so glad to see other people who understood the feel of his words. I didn’t even realize they could be a burn until the comment sections came out the following Monday
I like that the Wild Brothers at least made an attempt to be vaguely helpful, with Fjord taking the shopping in and Caduceus trying his best to cook while doubled over from the ceiling height.
2:36 This is just the best because the M9 is kind of used to Cad dropping big ol wisdom bombs but Astrid and Edowulf are most certainly not, and this is pretty much the first time either of them has actually interacted with Cad and it's just *chef's kiss*
I thought Eodwulf was going to fall out of his chair. The fact that the two of them had this mutual respect afterwards was cool. It also, sadly, probably painted a target on Caduceus's back... Trent WANTS Caleb to kill him...revenge against a certain firbolg who siphoned control away from him would definately make him want to go through with it. That, or Trent will discreetly send the Volstruckers after the Nein. I don't want a repeat of what happened with Fjord on the boat.
AND its to a man with that much power and demands so much respect to have a stranger break all his foundation just enough to see his cool demeanor just crumble, fuckin chefs kiss
@@MisterSmith00 Bruh, let's be real, if some Volstrucker's come looking, the Nein isn't gonna wake up hearing one member screaming from being stabbed They're gonna wake up to a triple-Fireball surprise attack.
Dnd groups absolutely refusing to turn down their weirdness and chaotic tendencies when meeting party members' family are such great moments. It's very funny to see the party member react to the minor-to-major breaches of social etiquette, from being like 'oh I can't take these people anywhere,,,' to trying to ignore it or contentedly being an equally chaotic enabler.
My Friday game the bard recently went home to see his mom and brother with the group, and when they left to continue the adventure his mom gave him a hand knitted sweater with duckies on it and the group fought over it. Mama bard is making more sweaters for when they fight winter personified
Belinda Luna Yes, It nearly happened to Grog during pre-stream. However Vox Machina was able to prevent it, and they had even less capabilities than the Nein at the time.
God's help anyone that's foolish enough to hurt Luc Brenatto. If they're lucky his aunts and uncles will only mess them up, if they're not..... They have to deal with Veth.
Veth nothing. Yeza Brenatto wouldn't leave anything left for his wife to shoot. I'm sorry, but I don't fancy pissing off a Master Alchemist that could MacGyver a bomb in five seconds. Hell, he's probably good enough that he could make an explosive that would kill you and only you, leaving everything around you intact. Also, let's not forget that Yeza now has a working relationship with Pumat. I wouldn't want Pumat Swole knocking on my door being like, "Respectfully, you hurt my friend's son. I'm afraid I'm going to have to hurt you." Or, you know, the Gentleman. Like could you imagine getting a knock at your door and it's The Gentleman? He'd be like, "Hello there. My name is The Gentleman. Perhaps you have heard of me? You see... you have injured someone close to me. I... cannot allow that to go unpunished." But yeah, don't harm the kid who's favorite Aunt is a Rage-Based Barbarian. Just don't do it.
Kid to Luc: Gimme your lunch money. *From all around* The sound of swords being drawn, fire being summoned, knuckles cracking, beetles buzzing, a serrated lollipop appearing, and a crossbow being cocked. The bully immediately goes blind.
Well, to be fair, Veth practically adopted the M9 way back near the start of the campaign. By the time Yeza was freed and reunited with Veth, he kinda didn't have a choice. :p
And then you have Luc, who now has the best/worst family in the world. Worst because there is exactly 1 stable influence in that entire group. Everyone else is some degree of damaged, chaotic or literal criminal. Best, because you know if ANYTHING happened to that kid, all hell would break loose.
Taliesin said in the latest Talk Machina that Cad wasn't angry at Trent but rather amused. As in Cad think that Trent was a total idiot, and he saw that no one wasn't going to call him out, so he had to do it. As a public safety precaution. Taliesin added that Cad was swallowing chuckles as he was telling Trent what he thinks. This make it even better than Cad being angry, I think.
You know that fable The Emperor's New Clothes about the scammers who sell a king some clothes that "only smart people can see" and everyone pretends it works until a kid just goes "that dude nekked af"? Cad would be that kid. He doesn't think better of himself, doesn't get angry, he is just looking around and going "we all see this dude is an idiot, right? Is nobody gonna say anything? Somebody should say something"
I want nothing more than for the sequence of the M9 charging into Veth's house to be animated. Fjord kicking open the door, Beau causing chaos, Yasha picking up Luc, and Caduceus awkwardly crouching in a halfling apartment would be amazing to see.
It's one thing to roast someone, it's another to roast them that hard *and* give them and everyone around you genuinely useful wisdom and in such a way that if the recipient tried to get back at you they'd probably just look like an asshole. Tal is something else.
Caduceus (and therefore Taliesin) has said some very inspirational life lessons. I'm also a fan of the spiritual lessons from plants that he spoke of several episodes previously. When he speaks, the world listens.
I'm sorry, but Veth having antlers in respect to Keyleth made my heart so happy!! Also, poor Yeza! He's just trying his best to raise Luc well, and the Mighty Nein make it quite interesting.
At least Yeza will never have to worry about Luc being really harmed. I mean, who would be foolish enough to harm the son of one of the of The Mighty Nein?
@@pyrrhusnikos242 Matt wouldn't dare. He would have to contend with a group far worse and far more powerful than The Mighty Nein if he tried anything with Luc.
Trent: Your life is my design, Bren. Everything you ever done, everything you ever were, and everything you ever will be, was by my machinations. If you think your life is your own, then kill me here and now. Caduceus: You're an idiot and no one loves you. Trent: 'Aight, I'ma head out.
I missed Cad so much. There is something about the voice that just feels warm and calming. It's probably why his burns have so much impact. It's like being told of by a parent when you know they're right.
When Beau is listing off the things the Nein are going to do when they show up at Veth's place I half expected some of them to break out into. "Blunt the Knives" from the Hobbit.
Cad is right. Pain just harms and breaks. Evolution happens when you overcomes the pain and make an effort to grow. And that happens out of love (be it for what you do, for someone, and so on).
@Kristopher Chavez i agree. But what Trent suggested was that pain itself makes you grow. Pain puts you in a context. Bonds are then what makes you evolve and grow from that situation. So both are needed.
@@giorgiomauceri410 not quite, and I think that was Cad's point. You can certainly teach someone with pain, but there is a breaking point some can't take it anymore (like what happened to Caleb). But you can achieve the same results _without_ the pain, and I think that was Cad's point. Astrid, Aedwolf and Bran already admired and respected Ikithon long before he forced them to murder their parents to prove their loyalty. Caleb, having learned 99% of his magic outside of Ikithon's teachings, seems to be stronger than either Astrid or Aedwolf. So in short, Trent's method of teaching was unnecessarily brutal since he could have achieved by just approaching them with interest would have been stronger than what he got (2 seemingly loyal students who seem to be actively plotting to murder him and 1 complete rebel) and wasn't even more effective than just letting people walk around and learn magic on their own. Couldn't be any more of a failure as a teacher if he purposefully tried to.
@@snap26neo Teaching them wisdom and empathy? My parents never hurt me when I was growing up, they never let things hurt me, but they thought me that hurt exists in the world, that is not okay to hurt people, they thought me to be kind and respectful. I wouldn't be the man I am today if it wasn't for them. Raising people isn't easy. And I hope to be to my kids (if I ever have them) what my parents were to me. And this would be a even sadder world if people needed to suffer to learn empathy.
@@gabrielsantos2430 but have you ever had your heart broken by others? betrayed? let down? humiliated? these are all forms of hurt and suffering, and i believe its foolish to think that one can go through life without going through these hardships
I had literal SHIVERS at the end of Caduceus's speech :0 Taliesin is incredible. I don't know where he gets his inspiration, but he's SO good at playing a character it's unreal
"I wish for you in the future to find someone who will mourn you when you are gone" is without a doubt the most polite and kind takedown of an entire human person I have ever heard
00:02:03 "And you would know that but you have none around you." *Fjord's creeping smile* I know it's Travis that smirked but I Imagine it's Fjord while Cad delivers that gut-wrenching blow and it's SOOOOOOOOO satisfying watching the student admire his master at work. Major kudos to Taliesin for his 100% kino cleric.
Veth and nott give COMPLETELY different vibes. Nott definitely was chaotic evil but its moments like this where veth asks for a cute lolita dress, or when she bought overalls for her family or when she was confused about how jester sounded mean in which she just sounded like the mom she truly is and i love it
Really Veth is just a less extreme version of Nott, which Sam said before her transformation that was the difference, I don't think Nott was ever Chaotic Evil, just every Chaotic and didn't think of consequences (explosive arrow, the trap that killed her, starting a war back up) I can still very much see Veth and Nott as the same person, they still act the same in attitude and personality except Veth is just calmer and more chill
Veth just feels like a healthier Nott. Not pressured about homelesness, the possible faith of her husband and son, back in a body she's not disgusted by, and reunited with her family. Nott's..."Nottness" was quite likely more due to her emotional inestability than anything regarding Goblin biology. You can see that considering how she acted alongside Yeza or Luc even before the change.
I hadn’t thought about it before, but I suspect that the experience of becoming Nott had shattered what Veth used to be, and now there are like two different personas in a halfling shaped body
I snapped so much when caduceus said this like omfg. My parents always look at me weird when I snap, its better thsan clapping and not being able to hear what hes saying lol. But Cad was super ballsy to say that
I always love the moments with the M9s non-adventurer companions hear of their exploits in casual conversation. Like, nonchalantly dropping that you killed a false god and looted thousands of gold last weekend.
C1 SPOILERS The only people who can properly correlate to and communicate with adventuring parties are other adventuring parties. Poor Yezza had no way of dealing with that, but if it was Percy and Vex they'd be like "oh false gods, true, those are harsh... But just wait until you need to kill your first _real_ god, now _that_ is a bitch!"
THATS THE BEST PART! Veth keeps coming home with these EXCEPTIONALLY dangerous gifts like crossbows and fireworks for a 4 year old. Would not be surprised in the least if luke ends up hurting himself or others one of these days
I wouldn't be surprised if campaign 3 is set 14(or more) years in the future, and Luke is one of the party members, trying to uncover the truth of his mother's and her friends' adventures across Wildmount. Might be interesting if Vesper had a reason to pop in as a PC too.
Holy Crap! I didn't even think of that! Now I CAN'T unsee it! >.< Now I want them cleaning Veth's apartment and washing her dishes all while singing 'Blunt The Knives.' "That's what Yeza Brenatto hates!"
I love Talisen and what Cad said to Trent here was perfect for the character. From a meta perspective though, he and Trent are two sides of the same coin. They look at each other and think the other is wrong, when in truth, both are correct. Pain can be the driving force that pushes people beyond what they thought possible. It can also shut them down, stifle their creativity and bury them in despair. Likewise, love can build people up from a broken place. Love can teach people they have worth, and in turn lead them to recognize the worth of others. Love can also lead to coddling. Someone unchallenged can become inept, and unable to carry themselves through the burdens of life. Love can lead one to turn a blind eye to abusive and destructive behavior. The truth is, we need pain, and we need love, to be our best selves.
i always adore how stoked travis is when tal says "may I say before you go..." Travis KNOWS tal will deliver, he's already so into it. that's a lot of faith and love at the table her there. i love CR
The whole part with the m9 barging in on the Brenattos home just goes to show just how much of a family they are at this point (reminds me a little of extended family when we all meet at my grandparents' but like, way friendlier/cooler) it's why it weirds me out when any of them talk of an 'after' because I couldn't not imagine them being in each others lives!
Poor Yeza. On the one hand he's got his wonderful wife back, and she's somehow even more wonderful, and he loves her... He just didn't bank on her having five new amazing, fantastic (fuckwit) friends who think it's appropriate to gift his son explosives, and giant fey canines who will blink in an out of existence within seconds and yet somehow have managed to take a dump in his slippers in the mean time, omg. The seven foot bovine-looking friend would be okay, if he didn't seem to take such enjoyment in his role as therapist-enabler.
This was a good collection from a fantastic episode full of great dialogue. Some honorable mentions for me were Travis asking if they have any coats and Marisha's suspicious eye squints at the owl. 😆
I didn't even see it like an insult or a burn. Cad isn't lying that it was a gift, and him mentioning Trent's status is part of it. Trent is so powerful both magically and politically that the only people he has in his life are various enemies that want him dead or deposed, and allies who are either too indoctrinated or too scared to be anything other than Yes men. Cad is the only one at that table or in his life who is willing to give him bare honesty. That's why he said it was a gift and that's why he said such harsh words to him and ended it with "respectfully".
"There was a gold one, but it got stuck in this woman's hand, it was incredible." Sounds like she's going to have to figure out how to rewrite her own John Hancock.
Man, with my country's shitty internet speed I always have to watch the episodes in 144p . I appreciate these videos so much cuz I get to see their expressions waaaaaay better despite being on the same resolution. I love these edits.
Caduceus (and Taleisen) is so well spoken and badass. Mans told someone he’s an idiot and no one loves him or will miss him and was so respectful in doing so like damn
As much as I love this scene for its burn value, there’s also a very important life lesson behind this exchange, one I’ve learned as a teacher: As you go through life you’ll meet people with whom you’re at odds, who anger you, and who disappoint you. If you want to criticize them, which is a perfectly healthy way to deal with stress caused by that person towards you, the most effective and beneficial way to do so is this. 1, compliment the person on their positive qualities, 2, voice your criticism, and 3, offer a path for growth and change. And always, ALWAYS use kind language.
The look of horror on yessas face was priceless when bo did the secret handshake. I just chomping at the bit to find out more from last week's episode.
"What children have learned at the rising of a fist has been to give themselves up to being angry, and despairing. That can be unlearned through compassion, empathy, respect, and patience... and its far more difficult to do so."
