16:34 Wow what a beautiful quote- "There are times in life where you worship the idea of being in love, much more than maybe loving the person you should be loving."
One of the best interviews i have seen of Matt asking so many questions i had about how he invests himself in his music and the toll it might take when he plays some of his songs live night after night and the way he comprehends it and copes with things emotionally Thank you to matt for sharing and thank you to the interviewer for asking these real questions
Its gotta be hard to play live over and over the type of heart wrenching music Matt is a part of seen CTE live 8 times and the performance is always stellar and full of emotion . ( My first concert of theirs i saw was them opening for Queens of the Stone Age in chicago, im honored to figure out i got to see them on their first tour) I appreciate and am thankful for his ability to continually put himself through those experiences just to play it live for random people Id like you all to think about how much pain it must be for artists to play some of their music live and then appreciate them that much more
There's always those people that consider themselves huge fans of a band, but they've never watched any interviews ever with the band members. Those people that only tend to know the singles. I always love hearing insights and getting in their brains for a bit, because they write some of the best and very relatable music. A lot of CTE has been the soundtrack to my life. This new album is no different for sure.
Wow, thank you so much for this. I have been a fan of Cage the Elephant, but only recently I got the opportunity to see the band live in an event to promote the release of the album Social Cues. Not only I love the songs, now I am intrigued by Matt after watching him on stage. I had the exact same questions over the video for Ready to let go. Thank you for asking and thank you M for clarifying. You should interview him with the following videos lol. Im dying to get more explanations over the Social Cues song
Ready to let go came out at the best time for me ❤️ the whole has helped me so much through the last couple of months but because of Matt and CTE I’m going to finally see them in July because life is too short to not take advantage of all the amazing things it has to offer
I sat down and listened to every song on this album because you are one of my favorite bands of all time. Out of respect. So disappointed. Production sucks. House of glass is the only song that isnt terrible. The emotion just isn't there
1. Cage The Elephant 2. The Growlers 3. Sticky Fingers 3 of the greatest bands out there right now. To me. Saved me life. They all released an album in 2014 and to me those are all of their peak for creative greatness in those albums
Psychologically speaking addressing the things that cause you grief helps emotional recovering. Procrastinating the stages of grief makes the grieving process more difficult.
Man I love cage. I love Matt, Daniel, brad, Jared; all of them. They’ve brought me such sentimental memories on their first album and will continue to for a very long time. I can vividly remember spending the night at my best friends house in 7th grade playing call of duty black ops zombies on split screen while blaring their first album singing along to it. I remember taking long trips up to Cleveland Ga with my ex while listening to Melophobia and singing along with her. Tell me I’m pretty got me through a dark time roughly a year ago when she cheated on and left me while my best friend overdosed almost simultaneously. Now their Social Cues is getting me through paramedic school when I get stressed out or discouraged. This band will always have a special place in my heart and provoke so many feelings of mixed emotions, euphoria, and nostalgia. This band is truly one of a kind and hope they stay together for a very long time. Long live Matt and CTE! 🐘🐘
Can all interviews in the future, for all bands, on all stations around the world be done by this guy? Just asking. Not sure who I'm more impressed with.
this was a really good interview. this guy isn’t taking to a camera, he’s there to talk to matt as a person and not just ask a question and get an answer. he’s having a conversation. this is a very well done interview
I was at a show in philly & dancin’ in the isle, Matt jumped off the stage and sang to me & danced around me! His security started pushing me off and Matt made eye contact with him and knodded him away! It was surreal. He danced up the isle into the audience. Stood on the chairs. Best performance Social Cues at BB&T Camden
Wow, what a great interview. At times I almost felt cringe because of how Tom's questions were going so deep, personal, and wouldn't just move on when it got tough. Often artists get upset at that and don't want to explain but then Matt turned around and gave us all what we were wanting to know with such openness and honesty. What a pleasure to have a peek inside Matt's head on what is an incredible album. Thanks to both.
I thought the same. Kinda cringeworthy but Matt handled it with grace and clarity that is rare these days. But you can see it in his face the pain he's overcoming. Just want to hug him.
Definitely not my favourite album from Cage. I can hear their sound in it, but it's definitely not a rock album (which isn't inherently bad, but maybe a bit disappointing to long-term Cage the Elephant fans). That said I found the second half of the album, from House of Glass onward is still pretty good. It's not exactly the type of album I wanted to hear from them, but they have changed their sound pretty drastically over time, and I don't see this as too far removed from some of the stuff they've been putting out.
@@connellphillips5439 this exactly. I heard house of glass and thought that was pretty knew from them and energized. Sounded dope. Was hoping to get more of that sound on the album. I need to give the album another full listen over. I felt most were pretty sad and mellow
Glad you love it now. That being said, think about what Matt went through personally. It's not just heartbreak, it's the confusion and psychological toll of coming to the realization that the person you thought was the love of your life, isnt. Cousin passed away, friend took his own life. Personal Life unraveling. Can't make a high energy rock album when tragedy is around every corner
Best interview I’ve ever heard, I’m a huge fan of Matt and Cage in general but this interviewer did such a great job of engaging Matt on a personal level that made it so nice to listen to.
This was a really solid interview, on both ends. I had so many questions about the video I wanted to ask, but just feel art dumb for not seeing the bigger picture automatically.
Goodbye is my favorite song off of Social Cues. I love every song though, from every album of theirs. Every song Is amazing and worth a listen. Getting a tattoo of goodbye lyrics next month! Can’t wait!
Yea I like them just started getting into them my first full taste was their performance at the 2014 lollopalooza and at 52 it’s pretty cool knowing Rock n Roll will never die, Matt us a great frontman and he reminds me of Mick I totally dig there music and the intellect in the lyrics of there music very cool
I just saw Cage the Elephant perform in Cincinnati for the 1st time (Night Running Tour with Beck) and they really blew me away! You have a crazy entertaining stage presence and I was very worried about your safety when you finished the show by crowd surfing through the lawn and climbed up on the trellis - but that is Rock and Roll for ya!!! I actually got to help hold you up!! Much love for you, Cage the Elephant and the music that you have graced your fans with! Next time I'll be in the pit(:
Just saw CTE (and Beck) at the Xfinity Center as part of The Night Running Tour 2019. Matt was so gracious with the audience. Towards the end he walked into the audience right to my row and seat and I was able to rub his (very sweaty!!) back. He seems to truly like connecting with his fans lol.
Matt Schultz, thank you for a great informative interview. I recently saw you at Ak-Chin in Phoenix with Beck. I am 45 and honestly went to see Beck. You guys were on stage for 10 minutes and I said “oh thats them?” And i did that for the next two hours. You didn’t take a drink that I saw (it was summer in Arizona) and you had this mask/fan and you were all over the place. I was Star struck, I began to really listen to this band. I went home, hit up google and iTunes (cause how hard is it now, finding Bullet Boys was hard hahaha) and began to fall in love with the music. Then the lyrics, then the videos. You guys are great artists, in a time of amazing art! Also thank you for your take on Ready to let Go. I feel that video and lyric will stand the test of time. For me it means releasing painful pasts, maybe even religion based, and allowing yourself freedom to be a continuing, thoughtful person and not allow your inner emotions to stifle you. Thanks CBC for a great interview
I just saw them 3 nights ago and the performance was outstanding! I did not realize the initial sentiments behind some of the songs, but I wish the best for him, because he had so much passion while performing each song. Very talented person, and group!
Cage has been my absolute favorite, the Night Running tour was amazing, and watching this now just makes me love Matt and the band 100000x more. He's so genuine and raw, Social Cues and Melophobia you can hear the difference of what clicked compared to the older albums, and you can feel how personal the music is.
Just discovering this band n I'm already smitten with Matt. The double fisted red Solo cup story though. Bb, so glad you're okay. Yikes. Could have ruined him, no joke.
Social Cues is a fantastic album. Ive become a Cage the Elephant fan slowly over the years. Just a great band when we have such a drought of good, talented bands.
What a nice dude. Poor Canada. My therapist says... Why is song wiring therapy? A great therapist listens exceptional well. Notebook paper doesn't have a mouth. Ta dah!
This was a great interview! The interviewer really connected with Matt so we could hear what Matt really has to say about certain things most importantly his creative process because CTE is an amazingly creative band.
I discovered his much driving for Uber and a white family got in and asked if I could play his album and I fell in love. It makes me feel mellow I love it I’m black American
