My daddy had 27 Ernest Tubb records, and I remember this album being part of that collection. Great, unapologetic country music.

Lots of the great singers like George Jones, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams etc. have sung this one, but for some reason, I must have missed Cal's version! This is a nice rendition of a classic though, and Cal Smith in general was an excellent singer; I don't think I've ever heard a bad song from him. Thanks for the upload!

Glad you enjoyed it,, you probably missed it because it was released only on the Decca DL 74745 Ernest Tubb's Fabulous Texas Troubadours album in March 1966 and nowhere else..

@@2packs4sure That probably explains it; it seems to be a rare one for sure then. Well, in that case I'm even happier that you were able to upload it. The last time I commented on your channel was on your Webb Pierce 100th Birthday video with that Pearl Beer commercial clip I think. I probably said it back then, but I'll say it again here: your channel is so, so great with a lot of (real) country. Love it.

Thanks for roundin' this one up. Have it on 'download' via one of them gi-normous Bear Records comps. 'OL ET. (A while back, I was listenin' to Crisp TX's finest when a guy pulled up next to me as I was driving in Poway, CA, near home. He asked, "Is that Ernest Tubb?') Cal Smith - great and greatly under-rappreciated honky tonk singer. When I was a DJ back at my college station, KUCR FM in the mid-70's, I'd play Cal a lot on my 'hard-core' country show. Always wondered - given his looks and where he's from in Oklahoma, the Indian country including Sallisaw...if he might be an Indian himself. (See, e.g., Marty Stuart; Marvin Rainwater; Elton Britt; Marty Robbins; Mark Collie; Kitty Wells...maybe Patsy Cline.) Great singer in any event. As always, enjoying Jake Hooker, Justin Trevino and some more obscure folks these days. Well, thanks again now!

In 1964 I saw ET and the boys on the Opry and the Record Shop, but regrettably I dis-recall whether Cal sang a number!

last night, was listening to the good old stuff on the jukebox with a woman hell bent on runnin around. still fun to hang out with. known for years. i bailed out and she went for another place to chase last call. on the way, she went off the road, got trapped inside, and the vehicle caught fire. she didn't make it to last call. they'll never take her love from me. some people will always snag a piece of your heart. i expect these be the end of my jukeboxing days. goodbye Ashley
