At 62 years of age… I have nothing but respect for Bobby Knight… the world needs more like him… great interview Calbert!

He was a belligerent jerk who was tolerated by Indiana because he won.

The best Indiana player that I have seen but I started watching college basketball in the early 1990's. He could take Knight's volatility and still be great.

Ehhh I definitely wouldn’t say that. I mean the man won college player of the year. That’s the exact opposite of underrated amigo. He was drafted 6th too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@barefootiguana2760 I hear ya! He wasn’t underrated at the time, but as time has gone on I think people have kinda forgotten what a great player he was. He’s still the leading scorer in Big Ten history.

There are few Knight players who are in the NBA Hall of Fame, Isiah Thomas is the only one I can think of. Which proves he got players to achieve at a high rate and play as a team, not as an individual scorer. Unlike Kentucky.

Please go away

I hear people say all the time that Bobby Knight could never have coached in The NBA...with the style he coached in college. However, in 1984...Knight was the head coach on The Olympic Team (that had Michael Jordan and a bunch of college All-Stars on it). They easily won the gold medal. Perhaps Knight had to be so tough on the players he coached at IU....because they were less talented (because it was tough to recruit most blue chippers who are used to people telling them what they wanted to hear)...and less talented players (no matter what genre of life they are in) have no choice but to outwork/outprepare their opponents. However on The Olympic Team....the best players in college had no choice but to play under Knight....and their talent/skill set alone gave them the ability to easily absorb Knight's style of coaching (as far as having the ability to execute the x's and o's on offense and defense). If Knight did coach in The NBA..and had players with the talent and willingness to outwork/out prepare their opponents in The NBA....that team would be something to watch on a night in and night out basis! Their games would be a piece of cake...compared to their practices..IF they were willing to outwork/outprepare their opponents. Most players when they go to college to play sports....are dumped/forgotten about after their time is done on the court/field. However if a player stuck it out for four years and did what Knight asked of them (outwork/out prepare their opponents)....Knight was known to be hella loyal and help his players/coaches out (whether getting jobs, networking, fundraising, etc). Is it really too much to ask a player to give it his all for 4 years....KNOWNING that in return you're going to get a LIFETIME of loyalty in return? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Any player who went to IU...had to know that if they didnt give it their all....Knight was going to be on them like white on rice! If they werent mentally prepared to accept Knight's criticism when they screwed up...they should have gone to a school with a 'softer coach'. People/critics say that colleges should 'care' about their players/that academics should be prioritized. Well Knight not only cared about his players..but he also made sure that they prioritized their academics. Did Knight have his flaws? Sure, who doesnt. However when factoring in all the positives that came from him coaching you.....his flaws seem insignificant by comparison.

Maybe Mike Woodson might be able to make it through a season without Knight being a consistent distraction. For a guy who was unceremoniously kicked out of Bloomington and Indiana University, he sure fight like hell to force his way back onto a sinking ship.

I'm sorry but I don't know what that means. Bob Knight did not have his faculties for the last couple of years before he passed. But regardless, I have no idea what Bob Knight had to do with Woodson's coaching? I do not see the connection.
