@@lavenderlilacproductionsyou havent been to the wild west 😉. We dont play pretend cowboy. Its modern out here. I think its fitting its got a touch of gold rush days style with the old hunting stock.
@@lavenderlilacproductionsyou clearly don't know California history! Cowboy's originated here when Spanish arrived starting horse and cattle farms all over the state. It has been a strong tradition in California ever since. Think about this every movie ever made with Horses and Cowboys has been from California. The Training the cattle the horses all of it. LA and SF are the smallest areas of the state but the most populated the rest of the state is literally farm land and Cowboy ranch lands.
How is this rifle remotely considered a "Cowboy Gun"? A lever action, single shot such aa a Sharps or Rolling Block, and a double barreled shotgun would be typically considered "Cowboy Guns", not a modern mag feed semi-auto rifle.
@@THEKACK123 that's Mexico, cowboys originated in Mexico. California is all hat, no cattle. "The first cowboys in the Americas were likely Indigenous Mexican men called vaqueros who lived in what is now Mexico and the American Southwest in the 16th century. Spanish settlers brought cattle, horses, and their cattle-raising traditions to the region, training the vaqueros in skills like lassoing, taming wild horses, and building saddles. The vaqueros' adaptability and skills influenced the development of the American cowboy, and many aspects of modern cowboy gear, such as the chaps, boots, and spurs, are legacies of the vaqueros"
450$ for an 870-compatible lower, but a staggering 1550$ for a dissent upper. 1900$ before tax (if you're buying the whole rifle instead of building) puts it at a better price point than the Regulator at 3000$, but a 700$ Fightlite SCR Lower + a 900$ BRN-180 Upper (830$ for a JAKL upper with a near-same control scheme as the Dissent Upper) is once again a pretty damn-good alternative. The trigger, non-reciprocating handle, and ergos are the real selling point for CMMG. CMMG got really close to striking a home run (wish they could undercut the 1700$ price point of a DIY build).
Agreed, Nothing against CMMG, but you can get BCM complete upper for 750$, Thordsen FRS 15 Gen II stock 100$, A complete lower 200$ with an upgraded trigger, and a good muzzle break 50-100$ will still come in at ~700$ dollars cheaper. Plus I have a weapon that has no proprietary parts. I appreciate what CMMG is doing for restricted states, but I feel like many manufacturers mark up their products because of those restrictions. 1100-1200$ is very reasonable. My 2 cents.
@j.rashid8257 of course manufacturers up prices for ban states. Costs more money to do business overall and why cater to people who refuse to get out and vote for their rights? I sure wouldn't take a hit in revenue because some hipsters think socialism is nice.
You can it’s called a CaliKey Bolt, it’s a Simple Bolt Swap for your AR. Converts it from Semi-Auto to a Bolt action & if I am Correct Under California Law you can have a Pistol grip on a Bolt Action Rifle, Now for legality purposes I do not Recommend Swapping the bolt out to the regular semi because that’s illegal although what you do with your Home Defense Rifle is between you and the Almighty, Uncle Sam & Gavin don’t need to Know. Just research the law and ask questions. It doesn’t hurt
I’m in Texas so no compliance issues but honestly I love the blend of modern battle rifle and traditional hunting rifle. I would probably swap the barrel out for something a little quieter and this would make the coolest pig/deer rifle.
@mtnbound2764 11% is huge. It stacks on the sales tax of 8-11% already. And one of those to taxes will be multiplicative of the other. It is an annoyance tax to curb firearm ownership in the great state of california.
I have a very weird facination with these kinds of rifles... idk what exactly it is yet but it's definitely been in my head rent free for a few months.
@@RogueSanta I saw an intrgrily suppressed 300 blackout SPR version and it has been living in my head rent free for like six months now or however, long I saw it
@@RogueSanta I was thinking more like a modern version of the mini 14, or another traditional style semiautomatic. I would like to see something like a Ruger 742 made again, one in modern trim and one with a wood stock but a rail on top.
"CALIFORNIA CAN'T BAN THIS" ... Gaven Newsom: "Semi-automatic firearms need to be banned in this country" California legislature: *clapping seal sounds*
Charles Whitman didn’t need no semi automatic. Killed more people with the bolt action than most of these so-called mass shooters these days. It’s all how you train.
Corrections/forgot to mention: 16” versions and 14.5 pin and weld options at launch Adjustable gas block 22arc, 5.56, 300blk, 9mm, 350 legend, 6.5grendel, 6arc 9mm is radial delayed blowback. Uses CMMG conversion pmags. Accuracy tests were done all consecutively with no time between mags or more than a few seconds between shots. So the groups definitely CAN be better. Personally I’m fine with the groups I got and didn’t have any issues hitting A zone steel at 50-100 standing
I guarantee Newsom goes after this. I wish Sig didn't make one. FTM.. ok.. I got one and an Arken 1X8 and it's a great rifle. Reno!? Didn't know you were so close?? Come to Soledad one day and shoot at "The Range" if you haven't already.. but when I'm there would be better. 😉 Anyway, zeroed that Arken at 75 without a click. My levels were off but F it ?? Me and my buddies had fun with it. They had never seen nor shot the FTM version. And was all to you my friend. Your video had me right to their site. And the hyperfire trigger has to be about 3-4lbs? They don't tell you on the site. But it's clean. I only Fd by getting so excited that i ordered one without a break!? And finding a gunsmith in SJ seems to be a bit difficult. All in all, listen to Reno.. he will not disappoint with the reviews.. and no, I don't get paid either for this shameless plug. Lol.. I need help Reno. But not 911. Waahhhh!
@@tfwwhennofitlitgf3300 schizo? Hope that means something else . Maybe some goofy shit for dudes who reply to shit that ain't got nothing to do w them?
Would be illegal in Washington state because of the “barrel shroud” handguard. Interestingly, Illinois has a similar ban, but Illinois state patrol doesn’t consider handguards to be barrel shrouds. So this may be an option for those who are stuck in Illinois.
Was thinking exactly that. CMMG at this point won't even send a tuning kit (a few machined weights) for their PCCs to Washington at this point. A modified hand guard could make this work, but I doubt they'd go to the trouble.
@@411DL I’m sorry man, that is absolutely awful. And yeah, I was thinking some BAR or Remington model 8 style of handguard which doesn’t fully enclose the barrel would probably be compliant.
Everyone keeps calling it a niche but frankly I see this as an interesting alternative setup. No bufferspring/buffer weights, a comfortable and familiar rifle style grip, doesn’t make the CADOJ and such go full autismo gorilla mode and maybe some cops as well, and better than most featureless setups. Also, sexy asf
For you to actually know all that makes me believe that is what you pick up every morning through the sbucks drive through in your Prius on the way to hot yoga.
I'm actually so happy that guns like this are kind of trending. (inadvertent pro of companies making things CA compliant lol) I love the ergonomics of a traditional stock over a pistol grip stock.
The most important thing NOW is this 11% TAX in CA for guns and ammo! WTF I sent this unconditional and is taxation without representation!!! This hits sellers and buyers and where does the money go to??? I call bullshit. What do you think Reno?
Even worse than all that, it makes the constitutional right to protect yourself less obtainable to those withwss financial resources. People should be livid for that reason alone!along a constitutional right to protect yourself and your family less obtainable to some based on income is tyrannical!
Great Vid!! I wish more people did a review on this rifle. I'd like to hear the opinions of less experienced people on this firearm. For those of us living in restrictive states and have very little experience with rifles this is a nice option straight from factory. I find the idea of making rifles state compliant exhausting, confusing and potentially prone to errors that could land you in trouble.
As a Californian, been wanting to find a compliant setup, that doesnt look too doofy, and this works well Thanks for the review, hopefully I can try it at the range one day
Low profile optics mounts are one of the reasons I love this style of rifle. Learned to shoot a rifle with a Mini and whether it's irons or optics I prefer them as low as possible.
I notice most comments are about price, which is fair. Dissents ate expensive. for those that don't want to buy an scr lower and building a gibz upper, this is a nice factory supported complete offering. Sbr with a muffler is where this pisyon system will shine. To my understanding CA doesn't allow mufflers though 🤷
Nothing against CMMG, but you can get BCM complete upper for 750$, Thordsen FRS 15 Gen II stock 100$, A complete lower 200$ with an upgraded trigger, and a good muzzle break 50-100$ will still come in at ~700$ dollars cheaper. The uppers run 1600 alone. Bcm complete uppers 750 with bcg when they run that sale. But normally they’re $150 for a bcg. The bcm also doesn’t include free charging handle their cheapest option is $75 Complete lower from decent budget mfg with a shitty buffer and polished nickel milspec trigger maybe 200. If you want an actually nice trigger and a better than cheap carbine buffer assembly you’re spending 350 easy. Which with Bcm you want a H2 buffer since they gas most their guns heavy. Brakes for cheap can be had for 50. Thordsen 120 If you’re getting the Bcm without free bcg and buying the charging handle that total cost is getting closer to 950 for just the upper. On sale 750+75 is 825. 350-400 for a lower worthy of comparison with quality parts. Can’t exactly make the comparison with Psa level lowers and parts lol. If Bcm doesn’t happen to be on sale it’s 1375. If Bcm is on sale it’s in the 1200 range. I think these on sale will be in the 17-1800 range. That price difference is definitely worth it to some people.
@@RenoMay *AND* CMMG has to factor in the cost of developing a new platform. The AR platform has been around for three quarters of a century and is pretty well dialed to the point a new mfg can step into the ring and be competitive in their first year (SOLGW, etc), whereas this just by its nature has a higher overhead and a smaller target market. TL;DR: It's actually sort of impressive they're matching the quality of a solidly 'duty grade' AR for only ~$400 more in a new platform that has higher overhead per unit in every metric.
Good review. I’ve recently become a big fan of CMMG and now own 3: Banshee 9MM-Glock, Disssent 5.56, & Dissent 9MM SBR-Glock. I really think the BR3 in 308 is my next purchase
@@jrwplmbgThe only downside is to turn the Mini-30 into a good rifle you have to spend $2,000. Stock it’s a 5-6 MOA rifle and can’t even use steel cased ammo properly. I sent mine in to have it upgraded; everything except the receiver and stock will be replaced. The guarantee is 1.5 MOA with select factory ammo at 100 yards. The cost of the upgrade is nearly two and a half thousand (plus shipping), and I bought the rifle for eight hundred (plus tax). I got it for the wood, so in the hopefully unlikely event that I ever have to defend myself again, a rogue anti-gun prosecutor can’t make the disingenuous “scary black rifle” attack. Also, it can take stripper clips in the event that detachable magazines get fully banned.
Polenar Tactical just uploaded an uncut video shooting his AR with sub MOA results. No idea if he even knows about this video or just coincidence but it's there.
Good info. Everything about this gun looks like a winner to me, I have a feeling I'm going to end up getting one eventually. And if I do, I'll likely fund the purchase by selling my current featureless AR because the BR4 looks like a better option.
Drew Meyer rail scales and a small Talon hand stop which has a groove to route your pressure pad cables would be awesome for that bad boy. Plus a Wise Men Company Hot Pocket with some holes punched in it for the rail scales would be the perfect heat mitigator set up and grippy AF lol.
An AR-10 in this form would sell like hotcakes, especially when the manufacturers market it to the hunting community and to those who want a "sleeper" DMR-type gun. One advantage of a rifle in this form is that you can set it really low. There's something very sci-fi about a modern self-loading rifle in a traditional form, so that's a selling point there, too. By the way, there is already a 1 MOA All Day (1MAD) challenge by Polenar Tactical and Bloke on the Range. They do have rules like the gun needs to be under a certain weight and you have to do it the first try (but the rules allow for 1 or 2 sighting-in or warm-up shot because cold bore shots tend to throw round off target). There really isn't a prize but more of a challenge to prove whether "my gun can do sub-MOA" are true--and also as a marksmanship practice and training since the goal of shooting sub-MOA means knowing the Fundamentals of Marksmanship very well.
just wanted to say thank you very much for your help in finding the information I need. Ones again thank you have a great day and keep making the video there very helpful to me
It's sad that, 10 years after inventing this type of rifle, FightLite (Ares) is not even mentioned in a list of "guns in this niche market." One could write a business case on their failure to capitalize on that invention (and I own two Ares-branded SCRs.)
Thank you Reno for the great evaluation of this rifle, you piqued my interest in this ranch rifle, I like the look of it and really like the side charging handle to keep on target vs the rear charging handle on a regular AR , and you raised a good point on the height when attaching an optic to a firearm with a traditional rifle style buttstock. Have a great week and, great video. 2A Forever 🇺🇸
Left hand shooters gonna love this. The safety switch is too far for the thumb of a right handed shooter but well within range for the index finger of a left handed shooter then charge it like a reversed AK. There maybe a new school for working this rifle in the near future. I love it.
Mine is in the mail to my FFL. I can use some help picking an optic. I know it might require a lower optic. I am thinking about putting a pistol Holosun on it. Anyway, if you could make a BR4 optic RU-vid short, i think it would help a lot of people out. You are the only reviewer to have even mentioned low optics.
Heck yeah, I was looking at fightlite? Lever action 5.56. I think Ill get this one. Way to go CMMG. Get the 9mm for in home defense. And 5.56 for mid range reach.
They will ban if not already the "Flash Suppressor" (can't have anything that is able to "screw on" either). Then they will try to ban the Magazine, only allow Bolt Action, or limit it to 10 Rounds which they likely already have.
I noticed that you didn't mention the reach to the mag release. Unless you have massive hands, you cannot release the mag with your right index finger, ala AR, to let mag drop free while grabbing another with you support hand unless you break your grip. It would be better if the release was further rearward.
Why no mention of the FightLite SCR? Not only were they the first to do this kind of thing, but you can use standard AR uppers on their lower. You don't have to mess around with proprietary parts. Other than you have to use their carrier but it comes with the lower.
What tripod is that? Do you recommend it? I am in the market for a standing tripod. That said, I love the look of this! The traditional rifle form factor is underrated in modern firearms IMO. My ideal version of this would be .308/6.5cr with a 20 inch barrel AR-10 variant. I really appreciate that your reviews go into so much detail.
Lower Height of your site over the bote does not inprove ballistics. Having your scope higher above the bore cuts the Arc of the bullet from a higher angle and makes your gun seem to shoot flatter.
when are these released? can we preorder through our FFL? this is an excellent alternative to an AR platform living in Cali. thanks for a great review.
Rohnert Park? Former Petaluma guy here. Most of the kids I knew had guns when I lived there, being we lived kind of in the country. BTW: The handguard looks a little chunky but I think I could live with it as they're not many options here. But I think I'll stick to my AR-15 and Freedom Week items.
As an owner of an FM-15, the price point on the CMMG there is no way I could justify something like that. That price point is crazy. Course the world's crazy right now.
Yeah but see since it doesn’t have a vertical grip it’s significantly different in functionality than if it had a vertical grip. And with smaller magazines you have to stop shooting for about two seconds here and there and it makes it so much safer
Last I checked, the base build is $2400 before taxes and light/optic. If they offered it in a budget option closer to the reasonable $1k, nothing else would have a chance. It's just too expensive for people on the frontlines who just don't have the option to move out. There is a solid market for affordable featureless options that will accept the minimum red dot and light. As of right now, when I build a rifle to replace my shotgun, it's going to be a complete homebrew on a traditional system. A round's already in the chamber with the safety on. It will remain that way.
Just get a mini… out the box can mount a red dot, or replace the upper shroud with a one that has a pic rail and then mount a scout scope. Seriously a mini is half the price point of this.
@@RenoMay I actually stand corrected, my local dealer had three of them on the wall for MSRP. Normally something this much better than standard featureless gets a notable markup. Unfortunately, that is still out of my price range, but it's definitely the most ergonomic modern featureless option I've seen so far. Though I did see other signs of distress this last time, the optics cabinet was kinda bare and I was able to go straight to the counter to do paperwork on my next lower.
17:52 I think that is THE drawback of ARs breaking away from the M16/M4 style grips and everyone going with metal pic rails, or metal keymod/mlok rails. Metal gets hot. Wood and polymer stay nice and cool.
Being able to mount stuff to the gun is worth the trade off. And being free floated is nice. When I shoot like I did that day (1100 in 3 hours) heat is inevitable lol
