A bit late to the video but this brings back memories. I'm originally from Southern California and lived in the Inland Empire for many years. I still have family out in Hesperia, Victorville, and the Big Bear area around Baldwin Lake. I haven't been back there in 30-plus years. I hope to someday but thanks for the video. There's something majestic about the desert you just don't get up here in the mountains in Northeast Tennessee (though the mountains are gorgeous in their own right).

see them windmills all the time we all so have soler filds now in and around Tehachapi , A prety part of Tehachapi is Tehachapi Mt. Park we also have a coupel of wineores now.

Take 395 North and go to Ridgecrest or hang a right and go to Corona and beautiful ride kind of stinks like eggs to Trona but it's an awesome ride all the way out to Ballarat

I live in Palmdale, off the 14 freeway, the Hwy 58 was under mud last October 2015 The California Highway Patrol said there were a total of 192 vehicles stuck, including 115 passenger cars, 75 semi-trucks and two tour buses. it was about a 10 mile stretch, good thing you came through in March :-)

Kramer Junction looked familiar---been through in both directions (395 & 58). Have you ever seen trains go through the Tehachapi Loop? It's pretty cool but the access road from Keene or Tehachapi is too narrow and curvy for big RVs.

Just like taking a trip back in time with this video, Russ!...made many trips from 58/395 back and forth to Bakersfield back when I was trucking. Still don't understand why truckers thought Tehachapi Pass was so bad....such a 'baby' compared to some of the passes in California 'before' they re-done them. Glad to know Scoob's feeling better and healthy again! As always, enjoy your adventures!

Hi Russ: Wow that is really diverse country. From mountains to valleys and semi arid Flintstone hills. You see a lot of changes in a short span of time..Enjoyed the trip today, We will see what Bakersfield is like now that 20 yrs have snuck by me.We were there in the 90's. Should be interesting. I came across one of your old videos and had to watch. I took Highway 54 from Barstow to Bakersfield on a rush trip from Missouri to San Jose this past summer (family emergency). I hated that section so much that I told my brother, we’re going back through Yosemite and then down to Vegas just so I could avoid that. Haha. It wasn’t til I got to those hills you finished with that I felt some relief from the drudgery. Victorville looked neat though.

You mentioned you could live there, at 2:07, that there's a lot of nice houses. But, I have to ask: What's it like during the summer months? I know it would be a dry heat, but endless weeks of super hot daytime temps are of course not everybody's cup of tea. Definitely not mine, at this stage of my life.

Army convoy? I think that was a US Marine Corp convoy...such as 29 Palms is a Marine Corp Base..

I think HWY 395 is one of my favorite stretches of road in California, love going to Bishop. Making some miles on this video, don't blame you for bypassing LA, I have no choice, I live there. Its absolutely nuts driving into the basin after a scenic stretch. It's crazy and very stressful in an RV. Take care!

That flat, "cleared-off" land is Rabbit Lake, which is usually a dry lake bed.

What a beautiful drive! I drove that route, the opposite direction, 4 years ago. that road, leaving Bakersfield going toward Tahapache (sp) was so cool. pretty steep though

How do you like driving a larger RV? I think you said yours is 36 feet. I drive a 38 foot RV and I don't find it hard at all. It looks like you don't have any trouble either. If you could pick between small or large RV which would you pick?

I want both ! hehehe.... big rigs are a dream to drive and live..but the mileage kills your wallet.... small rigs are fun to travel, better mileage but.... they are really tough to live in for a long period of time..... but i would take a big rig anytime... actually a 32 -34 ft with slides would be perfect Thanks !!!
