I am already working as a tech support rep, and since I watch your videos I have improved my skills and vocabulary, even my QA team has congratulated me a couple of times!! Keep it on guys!
Call center conversations like these ones are impossible to find somewhere else. Convergys or Amazon must hire you to train people properly. Specially in tech support environment
Thanks Geovanie 😊 We've set ourselves apart from conventional channels because some of our videos are the core of what tech support calls really are. Hopefully, most people who drop by our channel will learn from these videos. Regards.
Joshua and Emmanuel, you are artists, I've seen this video several times it's my favorite and I'm using it for delivering presentations in my class since I my student. Thank you very much guys and keep doing this kind of videos please!!!
Hello guys this is Emanuel first and foremost I hope you're doing well. Due to the controversy and confusion of the way I used the word “merchant" I would like to clarify some important aspects that might help you understand the meaning of this word in broad strokes. First off some of you are quite right when pointed out that the word "merchant" refers to a person or business that buy goods at wholesale and sell them at retail. A merchant is a person who trades in commodities manufactured by other individuals. As per history, a merchant is anyone who is involved in business or trade. Now the BIG question is; Why did I say "merchant" when talking about a restaurant? My humble answer to all of you is that restaurants have merchant accounts that process credit cards, in other words your credit card is processed through a merchant account. On top of that, you can use the word "merchant" when you want to talk about any business that sells or buys items or services. Last but not least, I would like to add that perhaps this word might seem a little confusing and/or baffling even for some native English speakers out there but guys bear in mind that in the English language one single word can have different connotations depending on the context it is used. Hope this explanation has helped clarify all your doubts. Should there be more questions thereof please let us know.
You guys are the best, first time I watch your videos and damn... I'm really glad I found them... With a single video is 10x times better than any classes I had before
I don't wanna keep wasting my time get your ass up to resolve this once and for all!!! Oh man this happens a lot to me when a customer is very annoying.
Even after a few years this video was released It´s still quite helpfull for all of us, since this really has helped me out to improve my speaking skills as an agent customer service. Greets y'all
Guys I haven't had the time to watch the video, but I'm hitting the like button. I'm on vacation through Central America and I'm here in Costa Rica and wifi isn't good. But I'll watch it later. Hugs
Hello and Enmanuel and Joshua, just I want to let you know that I love this video, wao you are very very creative and your videos just like this are helping me a lot,! so thank you
Why do you say "put you on hold" i've been in a call center course and the trainer said we don't have to say put, insted we have yo use the verb place. Can you clarify me that please.
'Sup Mauricio? this is Joshua, First and foremost I really hope you are doing great. My colleague Emanuel has already answered your question but I deem this query very interesting since that specific structure always causes polemic and debate as a result I consider it deserves a deeper explanation. I'd like to kick off by saying that the problem with too many trainers and teachers is that they dig around so much they tend to muddy the waters and over- complicate what should be a fairly straight forward sentence. I don't like to pigeonhole people and I'm just shooting from the hip here but I'll go out on a limb and say that your trainer must be a non-native speaker since this debate doesn't really exist among natives. Trainers recommend avoiding this phrase due to 2 possible reasons. One of them totally justifiable (No customer wants to be put on hold -- especially when you're putting them on hold to address someone else's problem. Unfortunately, there are circumstances when this is unavoidable) And the second reason is a feeble argument and excuse. (they are afraid that if you say put on hold some people will probably make a fool of you by saying something like... Please, go fast so it doesn't hurt! That happens because hold also means 'lock' as in 'wrestling lock') But place on hold will have the same effect so you won't avoid these silly jokes. They're par for the course in the call center industry. Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that we need to keep the naturalness of the language. My humble suggestion here is that when a teacher or trainer teaches you something ambiguous simply agree and say yes or else they will flunk you. 💪🏾😁 But once you have successfully passed the recruiting process start being yourself and using the naturalness of the language. Catcha later 💪🏾😁

Emanuel why did you say merchant during the call if you were in a restaurant? I showed this video to my supervisor who is from Chicago and she said that merchant is a person who buys and sells goods in large quantities, especially one who imports and exports goods. Could you clarify since I already looked up in almost all dictionaries and the definition is the same?
Hello Zane this is Emanuel. Hope you're doing cool today. I don't wanna downsize your supervisor's viewpoint as he/she is absolutely right thereof. However in banking the term "merchant" is used with a slightly different connotation. In this case it refers to a business that sells directly to the public from a store, restaurant, gas station etc. Hope it helps.
@@HipronarySchool Hi Emanuel, 🤗 But that only makes my doubt even bigger, we work for Ecobank in Nigeria and my supervisor has 15 years of experience working for JPMorgan Chase and Citibank in the US and she has never heard of it as a banking term. But it's OK, don't worry. Thanks a lot
That draws my attention 🤗 I know your supervisor is a native English speaker but the reason why I'm explaining the term to you is because I used to work for a US Bank and everyone would always use that term. I was part of the Fraud department and I was in charge of making sure fraud was not made in credit cards and some times there were these customers whose evil intentions were getting refunded by claiming they didn't make an X transaction so I would have to call the "Merchant" whichever store it was where the transaction was made in order to confirm whether the credit card holder did or did not authorize such transaction. Hope it clarifies your enquiry as well. 😊
Hello Morella This is Emanuel and you're absolutely right, sometimes as agents we feel rage when we get yelled at and it turns out extremely difficult to keep calmed during this type of situations.
