Some parts of this game, especially the Russian campaign, really are extremely gritty, eerie and haunting. This game had a totally different atmosphere to every other CoD game. I also think it did a really good job of presenting the sadness and horrors of war.
Double Aaron I think it was an interesting shift and paste to go to the Pacific Campaign for the US to fighting the Germans was hard year but fighting the Japanese was an entirely different animal
People usually portray war as something glorious, but they had yet to portray it from the point of a man who watched how his fellow soldiers were decimated and his land taken over. Reznov began by moving Petrenko, and together they avenged the massacre.
For me, it’s not the limbs falling off that was brutal, it was the birds picking at dead near the fountain, and the Nazis shooting the remaining survivors. It completely sums up WW2; just f*cked up Now, they don’t even have the balls to add Swastika symbols...
Shoots him square in chest: "You've only wounded him!" Shoots him again in chest: "You just grazed him!" Literally scuffs his uniform sleeve: "Good hunting!"
That is incredibly accurate as far as Call of Duty games go. I was in a multiplayer match one time and had the CheyTac 408 bolt action rifle and shot a guy in the center of his forehead and he did not die.
It's better to sidestep Once going over towards the shade and just wait until the enemy soldier sniper comes along to the same window. It's an excellent tactic. When get to the snipering away section - go on the table and sniper rifle sidestepped through the hole in the wall. This will also give an edge from the enemy German Shepherd attack dogs
I found out a even better tactical advantage. Just crouch nearby the book shelf on the left side in the shade and wait for the enemy sniper to get to the window. It makes it heaps easier
@@greatest_bumble_bee_dude this mission was a bitch on veteran difficulty. Also there’s a trophy for killing the general with just a pistol and that was tough as hell
1:20 Just look at that Russian Soldier on the left when he sees the German Soldier shoot down his comrade and he desperately tries to crawl. The amount of fear and desperation that soldier had is really scary.
Battle Rus why are you calling him an idiot? Soviets and Germans were both equally horrible. Some wouldve have done it for fun, others would have done it to put him out of misery
Arthur Morgan well, I guess we had all the rights to do this, nazis thought, we were animals, their propaganda says, what we are animals, and we should suffer, this ain’t right, they stopped only then animal sharps vein. (Sorry for bad knowledge of English)
BulletKingIsHere no, they believed in this and did on our motherland everything what they wanted. We had all rights to do genocide like they did, but on their homeland, but we didn’t.
Definitely not the best, that honor belongs to Call of Duty 2. NOT Modern Warfare 2, just Call of Duty 2. That's a WWII game, and came out way back in 2005. First with the modern health system, and surprisingly open and non-linear, with multiple strategies for a ton of places, even in otherwise linear levels. (Hint- if you have to use dialog saying there's a non-linear path to the nest objective, your game is already too linear) Both a long campaign and the only one to feature a British campaign that's NOT special forces. It was their first game with a particle system, and there's times I've had trouble seeing the target through the smoke from an exploding grenade and either heavy snow or even just a slight mist. Also, since the levels are pretty open, the Germans are SMART. Unlike in World at War. Smartest of any of them, and never plays the same way twice. Heck, in one playthough of one level, AI allies (non scripted to boot) saved my bacon half a dozen times. (Middle of reloading and - "oh hell, jerry standing in front of me" - ally shoots him). Or seeing a jerrry suddenly charge me screaming as I have to reload. Or an ally screaming "die" and clobbering one. And a colossal battle chatter system. (It actually pays to listen, and one time it was "jerries, behind us," and my thoughts were something along the lines of "what!" That doesn't happen every time. Also for the Germans too, and you learn the German word got 'grenade' soon enough.) And a gigantic amount of scripted animations for polish, some that I still keep discovering for the first time. And after playing one level on veteran with the sound on the headphones a notch higher than usual, it took two hours to fully come down afterwards. Doesn't look all that bad, actually, with everything cranked to the max, and since it's now literally a decade old, just about any computer can play with everything on it's maximum settings. Might look just as good as a much more recent game with the settings turned down for a modest computer. I was able to crank everything just fine on a 2008 laptop, so likely just about anything can. Forgotten gem, in my opinion, and doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
That shot at 1:20. One of the most memorable shots in the entire franchise. The bombers, the smoke, the ruined city, the grey and dark monotone hellscape that is war as tanks roll by and soldiers execute any survivors.
Why dont we get games as dark, brutal, and depressing as this one anymore? This is REALLY compelling storytelling. I know its actually simplistic in the way that "nazis are bad and brutal" but the depth in which they go to tell the story they want to tell is really powerful. I beg developers to make more games like this.
the creepy lady singing and the music in the game creeped me out xD i loved the atmosphere in this game though it actually felt like you were in the 1900's man i miss this shit! my fav cod hands down
Swaganzo Shimura Ummm no it didn't it wasn't suppose to feel that way. With all the LVTs and big battleships but with Japanese tactics and charges along with Russian advances into Berlin. This place didn't feel much of a world war 1 feel.
It’s a shame that you prob won’t see a game with a true depiction of WW2 like this anymore since no developer is gonna risk being controversial especially with this subject matter
A long time ago I played it on my brothers Xbox in (I think) 2009 then one day I lost the game so for my 13th birthday I decided to get it for my birthday
I died like 15+ times on that sniper and was getting so annoyed that when the checkpoint reloaded I randomly just no scoped and Reznov said you only wounded him. That motivated me and passed that part that time.
This was the first CoD game I played and it will always have a place in my heart. It portrays the sheer brutality of war better than any other game in the franchise
Reznov: this place... once echoed with conversations of friends and lovers... no longer. Farah: Before the war, this place had families, and laughter. Me: I understood that reference
9:43 I love this part so much. There are so many games where your allies split up off to unseen areas, to "provide cover" or something along those lines in relative peace, while your in the thick of it almost getting killed every 10 seconds. But this time, *_you_* are those allies in relative peace while your team gets destroyed. It's awesome.
I finished CoD Black Ops before playing CoD WaW so I didn't care about the Nova 6 mission at first but man when I found out that we play as Dimitri in WaW, it hit me really hard...The friendship and bond between Reznov and Dimitri portrayed through out the campaign was so well...As Reznov said he didn't deserve to die like that...I'm glad that Mason and Woods finally avenged their deaths in CoD BO2. RIP Dimitri Petrenko RIP Reznov
In the beginning of the mission you see lots of Russian soldiers dead, if that's the case how can they attack Germany in the next mission if lots of they're soldiers died
+David Kim who cares i can speak 5 languages and english is definitely not my first option when it comes to writing it on a daily basis so yeah some mistakes can occur sometimes
The first thing this game does to you when you open it up is put you in a situation where you're about to die. The difference between the American and Russian campaigns however is staggering and is reflective in their titles: "Semper Fi" vs "Vendetta." "Semper Fi" is short for "Semper Fidelis" which means "Always Loyal" and is reflected in being saved by your comrades. "Vendetta" is reflective of the fact that you survive out of pure spite and join the first asshole you see in killing the man responsible. Both of which set the tone for the war very well. Vendetta I think has the best imagery of any cod game to date because you're in fountain, surrounded by bodies, two fellow soldiers barely alive being executed, and bombers flying overhead with everything destroyed around you. It may be night, but the interpretation I favor is that it is actually day, and the smoke is so thick that it's blocking out the sun. You are in what amounts to a hellscape, yet nonetheless you survive.
+Kahlo kahlow The general sniping part was so hectic for me on the Wii, i was really nervous, and finally on the third shot i got him on the car right when he was about to escape.
I loved this game as a kid, and I remember back when I was in 5th grade (2015-2016). I was addicted to this video because the gameplay was so good Out of all the COD, waw gameplays, this one will forever remain my favorite. Thank you for the memories.
Reznovs smug tone when he says "ahhh you just grazed him!". Closest I've ever come to throwing my controller through the tv screen. This game on veteran difficulty will haunt me for the rest of my days.
Everything about this game was amazing. The soundtrack fits the time of the game itself and the campaign was brilliant + the introduction too the best game mode ever Zombies was just electric.
Don’t know if anyone has already commented this or even noticed but right around 7:15 7:16 the sound of the door reznov opens is the same as the zombies mystery box opening
I feel like it's more respectful to have video games so bloody and gritty. Really can help to immerse us in what people went through (Just like everyone else I revisited this game during quarantine lol)
Back than when COD was not a game aiming for children, but showed the brutality of war, made a glorious and very good campaign. At least MW 2019 was not a children game.
I love how the Special Operations game type is actually very challenging. I would not be surprised if they patched it to make it easier for all the losers out there. I remember a lot of people complaining about how "too difficult" it was.
In my opinion, this was the best Call of Duty release of all time. The atmosphere was perfect throughout. It has never been matched since. Black Ops wasn't bad but it had nothing on this.
Mark Pugh well yes, Stalin literally sent his men out there with nothing; no preparation, no plan, no tactics. He basically said “Get the hell outside, right into the battlefield!”
I honestly don't know what the hell Howling is speaking about....Commanders led the battlefield and did efficient tactics in the U.S.S.R. Nor did they send them out without nothing because you CANNOT win a war without all those doesn't matter the numbers.
sorry it sounded harsh but the only person who charged into battle was China and Japan who military's were kind of poor but the early Red Army was poor in power just not like 1945 Japan who did nothing but Banzai into enemy positions only smart tactic they used was Guerrilla Warfare which is very deadly in its self. Soviet Union had a pretty poor military IN 1940-Early 1942 that's until late 1942-1943 came and it all came down hill for the Germans.
I’m here from seeing the Vanguard demo, with the new interconnected universes I’m hoping for a Resnov cameo, if not, we should see the Nazi flag falling from the reichstag and Demetri planting the flag from a different vantage point
Amazing how after all these years of playing cod, i can only think of a few other missions from all the other titles that still make me feel chilled to the core when replaying these classic missions. Fuckin Masterpiece ❤❤
This whole game is a masterpiece but THIS LEVEL omg this level is dripping with atmosphere it is as gritty dark and just depressing as Stalingrad this level is goated
Yeah, i'd like to see another ww2 call of duty. If they actually did this I would probably play call of duty again. All the new games they make have too many killstreak rewards and all this other crap...For me COD WaW was the best, ground war was just epic and the tanks added to the experience. xD
Man the opening for this mission is so real. Watching your friends and fellow soldiers die around you while you have to play dead to avoid being killed.
I wish we knew why Pvt.Petrenko was in that fountain in the first place? Did a bomb knock him in there? Did he crawl in there to hide? Was he already in there hiding?
We see a group of soldiers and sandbag fortifications around the fountain. I’m guessing this was a defensive position and a bomb or grenade likely knocked him out and killed most of the others
Majestic Muller Majestic this wasn't creepy the beginning of it was sad, but it was realistic, intense and one of the best missions I've played in a call of duty game
It wasn't creepy it was just sad in the beginning cause at first you think your the only survivor and you see all you men die around you and with the sad music makes it even more sad but it was creepy cause this was the first mission you play as pretenko and you already see you men dying around you
Christian Arandallo Oh man. Please don't hype me up. I hate when I see "they worked on it for 2-4 years" and the game ends up being shit. I'll give them a shot since it's treyarch and they've been consistent at good COD games. But the last two COD games sucked. Period.
I really hope not :/ .... But if you think about it, how much more in depth can they go with the past ? There are only so many wars... On the bright side, we can look forward to a game that may have a lot of potential considering you're putting 4 years of effort into a game (: KEEP YOU'RE DAMN HEADS UP GUYS PLEASE! There is hope lmao
Christian Arandallo For real dude? that would be awesome if its going to be like WaW i enjoyed that game played all cods 2003 till Ghost and only tried the new one few weeks back but i liked cod because of there ww2 style not this high end tech furture shit its nice to see some new gadgets but i prefer CoD to be in ww2
